"I bet Davey is frothing at the mouth with Muse and Rise Against on the same bill."

Exactamundo... Although, I'm a little worried they may clash. BDO occasionally put a punk/harder band as the final set on the middle stage. For example (& I will stand corrected); I think it was Brand New clashing with Rage Against The Machine and last year Dropkick Murphys may have had the slot while Neil Young was playing.

There's usually a heavy act late arvo on the mainstage, but Mastodon could get that. I'm more hoping that RA & Mastodon get the slots that BFMValentine & Pendulum got last year.

The 3 most likely acts for the 2nd announcement imo are:

- Placebo
- Jet
- Wolfmother

Bands who have played BDO twice or more before:
Muse ('04, '07 and a tour in '08)
Powderfinger ('94, '96, '97, '99, '01, '05 and a tour in '07)
The Mars Volta ('04, '06 and 2 tours since)
Dizzee Rascal ('06, '08 and a tour since)

Eskimo Joe ('02, '05, '07)
Grinspoon ('00, '02, '05, '08)

Bands who have played BDO once before:
Lily Allen ('07 and a tour in July '09)
Kasabian ('07 and a tour in August '09)
Rise Against ('05 with tours in '07 and March '09)
Karnivool ('08 + tour all the time)
Midnight Juggernauts ('08 + tour all the time)

Of the bands who have never played BDO before:
Groove Armada - here in January '08
Girl Talk - Here in January '08 and February '09
Mastodon - Here in April '07
The Horrors - Here in August '07
Calvin Harris - Here in April '08
Ladyhawke - Here in August '08 and November '09
The Decemberists - Never toured Aus. before
+ 7 Aussie bands that tour/play festivals several times a year.

Stolen from someone on Soundwave forums who stole it from somewhere.
BDO really needs to start bringing in acts that haven’t played regularly.

I just presumed that was all a joke. Either way, I think Enter Shikari is as good as confirmed & Closure In Moscow are heavily rumoured.

Getting back to the Big Day Out, I almost get the feeling that hardly anyone will be happy with their line-ups from now on. It is difficult to please everyone with the variety in music they aim for. It may have been easy when there was less competition, but that's not the case right now.

Disagree, Davey. All BDO needs is a band that makes you go 'wow'. They've managed the last couple of years if you look at it.
2007 - Tool
2008 - Rage
2009 - Neil Young
That's just whats missing this year, Muse is great but they don't have the wow factor that other bands have had.

Ugh... So many clashes & cross-overs. Seriously, what's with all the 10-15 minute cross-overs between sets. It's not that difficult to minimise that.

My clashes are right from the beginning:

- Miami Horror vs Sugar Army
- Karnivool crossover with Kisschasy who crossover with Calling All Cars
- Kasabian vs Temper Trap (a silly clash)
- Passion Pit vs Girl Talk (nonsensical clash... what were they thinking?)... & they crossover with Hilltop Hoods (making it even more ridiculous)
- Phrase crossover with Muse which is basically a clash considering the Muse crowd.

Where are those guys that did the false timetables when you need them?!

lol yeah I admit I only wanted to see a few of the bands :D

I still need to get more Mastodon and Kasabian. Which Kasabian record is better? 1st or 2nd? I loved the 3rd one to bits.

Croc, their 1st one is better... BUT I think you may like the 2nd one a little more.

Basically, their debut has more of a dancey feel & has a lot of "processed beats". Their 2nd album is more towards straight out rock & has 2 or 3 good singles & then drops off badly.

1st Kasabian beats the crap out of the second.

Yeah i've heard that a lot. I might pick up the first since I've heard all the singles from the 2nd anyway.

As long as you can recite the words "shoot the runner, shoot, shoot the runner", you'll be right.

I wonder if Muse will come out & perform the riff seeing they used it on 'Uprising'.

Hey Billy, how many songs will Karnivool sneak into a 45 minute set?

Fishies aren't biting today....

Hehe. I'm still hoping for a Birds of Tokyo heel turn. Chair-shots ahoy I say.

Speaking of, Birdies have been playing a new song recently. It sounds quite tasty.

We shouldn't expect anything less. I was going to head down your way to Solar to see them, but didn't think that group of acts was worth the price.

I did read an article that BoT have already written a good portion of their next album.

Indeed they have:

With pre-production finished in Perth prior to Christmas BIRDS OF
TOKYO are heading to the studio today, January 4th, to begin their
third studio album.
We can't divulge too much information, but can confirm that the Birds
are working very closely with Scott Horscroft (Silverchair, The
Presets, Sleepy Jackson, The Panics) and will be spending the better
part of the next 3-months abroad

Hmmm... Karnivool are touring the States some time soon, so I wonder if they'll be together.

'tis quite possible. Although Kenny doesn't have to be there for the whole recording process, normally vocals are done last so there would be a little bit of leeway for him and Karnivool.

Ooh Karnivool. Looking foward to be being mighty impressed!
