Lil dissapointed that Muse are headlining, otherwise its fair decent.
|
| |
whats the bet second announcement has blink...
who the fuck cares, from footage i've seen muse blow me away live so bring it on!
I'll finally be able to see Rise against, Grinspoon and karnivool too!
|
| |
Yeah but they could have got a bigger headliner than Muse.
|
| |
Did it leak 15 minutes early Billy? Where?
Muse, Ladyhawke, The Temper Trap, Kasabian, Rise Against & a few others appeal.
Where's Placebo? I thought they'd be certainties.
|
| |
seeing karnivool in december anyway. as long as decemberists do a side show then ill be happy... wouldnt mind seeing the temper trap though.
|
| |
Facebook davey, BDO fan page.
|
| |
Muse do have the 5th biggest selling 1st week album in Oz this year. That's biggish.
Ahh, you got Super-Poked!
|
| |
Just watch H.A.R.P, that's big enough for me. Fuck im looking foward to seeing some of these bands, I better get tixs.
|
| |
Second announcement will probs have some more goodies. Wonder if Mammal can make it 3 years in a row.
|
| |
Grinspoon, Karnivool, Rise Against, Mastodon, Bluejuice, Kisschasy, The Decemberists, Tame Impala.
I think I'll have to get ticket just for Rise Against and Mastodon.
|
| |
Billy, edit in the dates for each show when you get a minute.
|
| |
EDIT: dw, i had a retard moment
|
| |
I like most of the bands on the list, and if Mammal joins than I'm going to try my best to scrape up the cash to get there, should be awesome.
|
| |
Yeah good to see its the same price as last year after Soundwave got more expensive.
|
| |
Oh Taylor, you joker.
|
| |
OK so heres who i'd try and see:
Karnivool, Muse, TMV, Mastodon, Lisa Mitchell, Rise Against, Kisschasy, Magic Dirt and Bluejuice.
|
| |
I just got the timetable handed to me; They all clash.
|
| |
Funny that. I just got an email from Phil Collen, apparently he hates you.
|
| |
I bet Davey is frothing at the mouth with Muse and Rise Against on the same bill.
|
| |
whats the bet second announcement has blink...
Don't be an idiot
|
| |
when did mastodon become the hipster metal band
|
| |
more power than you realize
|
| |
lily allen? hopefully someone will bootleg her performance and distribute it over at dime.
|
| |
That looks like a sweet lineup, especially Muse, Lily Allen, and The Decemberists. I almost wish I lived in Australia right now. Almost.
|
| |
Oh wow, I missed Rise Against. That makes this way better. Remove the almost(s) from my last comment.
|
| |
so much for lily allen quitting music huh?
|
| |
Decemberists? yes plees
|
| |
Mastodon, Rise Against, Lily Allen, The Mars Volta, Girl Talk and The Decemberists. Throw in a bit of Dizzee/Calvin Hariss and it looks like a pretty good day tbh.
|
| |
Tickets go on sale for $140
I'll pass.
|
| |
the most random collection of bands i've ever OH RISE AGAINST I'LL BE THERE
|
| |
Where the fuck are The Butterfly Effect ?
|
| |
Oh how I cannot wait to see Lily Allen getting interviewed when this is going on.
First question..."So uh Lily, what are you doing here?"
"Well, the thing is, I realised getting my tits out every five minutes wasn't bringing in a sufficient income. Well, that and I just signed an album deal with the government, my new album's called I ain't gonna stand for this."
Guess i'll be bringing tomatoes to BDO then
|
| |
^that
|
| |
i hope they make muse lip sync
|
| |
holy fuck. good bands finally coming to new zealand? have to make the most of this.
|
| |
This is actually one of the better lineups Big Day Out has had, unfortunately a trip to Australia in January is not in my plans.
|
| |
BBBLLLLLLIIIIIIINNNNNNNK
=(
|
| |
hm i cant decide if i should go to this or soundwave, probably soundwave for AFI and paramore
|
| |
Swell lineup better then I thought it would be, since they were talking down the leaked line up.
|
| |
"I bet Davey is frothing at the mouth with Muse and Rise Against on the same bill."
Exactamundo... Although, I'm a little worried they may clash. BDO occasionally put a punk/harder band as the final set on the middle stage. For example (& I will stand corrected); I think it was Brand New clashing with Rage Against The Machine and last year Dropkick Murphys may have had the slot while Neil Young was playing.
There's usually a heavy act late arvo on the mainstage, but Mastodon could get that. I'm more hoping that RA & Mastodon get the slots that BFMValentine & Pendulum got last year.
The 3 most likely acts for the 2nd announcement imo are:
- Placebo
- Jet
- Wolfmother
|
| |
"I bet Davey is frothing at the mouth with Muse and Rise Against on the same bill."
Haha i know I am though, I'm pumped.
and yeah, I wouldn't be suprised at all for Jet and Wolfmother to be added. When's the 2nd announcement?
|
| |
Whoa 2nd lineup for Pyramid tomorrow!
|
| |
but, blink?
|
| |
2nd announcement won't be for a while Croc. Will probably be sold out by then.
AJ from Soundwave said at least a month ago that Blink would not be touring Oz in first 6 months of 2010.
|
| |
Yeah I figured it would of sold by then. At least I finally get to see Muse, Grinspoon and Rise Against though. Been wanting to see them for a while now.
|
| |
Well, that's the good thing about festivals. They can be a taste test. I've seen Muse & RA before obviously, but there are bands like Karnivool, Kasabian, Kisschasy, Temper Trap, Bluejuice, etc... that I probably wouldn't bother seeing at their own gig, but would like to hear live at least once.
|
| |
Karnivool are epic live.
Kisschasy, gathering from Before The Game on Friday, look like they are a bit meh.
|
| |
Karnivool rape live. It hurts.
|
| |
This is such a rehash of earlier years, will still be awesome though.
|
| |
I'm still hoping for an Ian Kenny heel turn.... Birds of Tokyo go chair-shot crazy... The crowd goes wild with "You sold out" chants... Now that would rape harder.
|
| |
As long as Rise Against and Mastodon don’t clash this will be a good festival (for me).
|
| |
140 bucks can suck my dick
|
| |
Bands who have played BDO twice or more before:
Muse ('04, '07 and a tour in '08)
Powderfinger ('94, '96, '97, '99, '01, '05 and a tour in '07)
The Mars Volta ('04, '06 and 2 tours since)
Dizzee Rascal ('06, '08 and a tour since)
Peaches ('02, '04, '06 and two tours since)
Eskimo Joe ('02, '05, '07)
Grinspoon ('00, '02, '05, '08)
Magic Dirt ('95, '96, '00, '02, '04, '06)
Bands who have played BDO once before:
Lily Allen ('07 and a tour in July '09)
Kasabian ('07 and a tour in August '09)
Rise Against ('05 with tours in '07 and March '09)
Karnivool ('08 + tour all the time)
Midnight Juggernauts ('08 + tour all the time)
Of the bands who have never played BDO before:
Groove Armada - here in January '08
Girl Talk - Here in January '08 and February '09
Mastodon - Here in April '07
The Horrors - Here in August '07
Calvin Harris - Here in April '08
Ladyhawke - Here in August '08 and November '09
The Decemberists - Never toured Aus. before
+ 7 Aussie bands that tour/play festivals several times a year.
Stolen from someone on Soundwave forums who stole it from somewhere.
BDO really needs to start bringing in acts that haven’t played regularly.
|
| |
i'd only really be going for the mars volta and mastodon so fuck it, just soundwave for me next year
omg mars volta could do sideshows
|
| |
plus knowing bdo they'll probably have a bullfucked time schedule and do what they did with bjork/ratm and put lily allen before mastodon like the dumbcunts they are
|
| |
mastodon, karnivool and rise against should be at soundwave
|
| |
Oh yeah, RA being added to that Soundwave bill would have made it great. Oh well, here's hoping to a few good bands in Soundwave's 2nd announcement, which should be some time next week.
|
| |
honestly, i'm content with the current soundwave lineup
|
| |
A girl who posts on SW forum has her birthday on October 6th so AJ promised her he would release the second announcement on that date, but then pushed back the announcement, so now she'll be the ONLY one getting it on October the 6th.
Hopefully she leaks it =x
|
| |
d'aw that's cute
|
| |
I just presumed that was all a joke. Either way, I think Enter Shikari is as good as confirmed & Closure In Moscow are heavily rumoured.
Getting back to the Big Day Out, I almost get the feeling that hardly anyone will be happy with their line-ups from now on. It is difficult to please everyone with the variety in music they aim for. It may have been easy when there was less competition, but that's not the case right now.
|
| |
Disagree, Davey. All BDO needs is a band that makes you go 'wow'. They've managed the last couple of years if you look at it.
2007 - Tool
2008 - Rage
2009 - Neil Young
That's just whats missing this year, Muse is great but they don't have the wow factor that other bands have had.
|
| |
and soundwave has sunny day real estate so they're winning in the wow department
|
| |
"That's just whats missing this year, Muse is great but they don't have the wow factor that other bands have had."
meh. Muse have way more wow power than tool and neil young for me. not gonna argue rage, that was an incredible move on BDO's part.
|
| |
Muse have way more wow power than tool and neil young for me. but we're not talking about you, we're talking about the general public. tool and neil young are far more popular than muse in the grand scheme of things.
|
| |
140 bucks for mastodon, decemberists, lisa mitchell, lily allen, grinspoon, karnivool and rise against? i'll pass...
|
| |
Lisa Mitchell is hot though.
|
| |
Where I live, muse are WAY more popular than tool and neil young...
|
| |
Its not even that though. Muse are here every couple of years anyway. Whereas Tool hardly ever come out here, Rage had just reunited and Neil Young hadnt been here in a ridiculously long time.
|
| |
You live in a dump
|
| |
tool are prog gods in the eyes of a large number of completely batfuck insane fans, rage and neil young are legends. muse are a current, relatively popular band that have played bdo a bunch of times.
oh billy's already doinit
|
| |
Hopefully getting tickets in about 27 minutes.
|
| |
How did you go CTS? Apparently they completely cocked up Sydney & a lot of people missed out!
|
| |
I got them Davey.
Yeah, they added another Sydney date. Probably to rectify it.
|
| |
Excellent CTS. Can I ask if you got them on the BDO website at midnight or from TicketMaster (or whoever the selling agt was up there)? Either way, any tips/warnings?
|
| |
When's melbourne on sale? I've been elected the 'stay up til' midnight and get tickets guy'
|
| |
As soon as you go onto the BDO site that’s where you get them. http://www.bigdayout.com/
Melbourne is on sale tonight.
|
| |
You can't go to the festival Croc, you have to be over fifteen.
|
| |
Hehe. I could see that one coming a mile away... Rated MA. LOL.
|
| |
lol. i'm 19 ffs.
|
| |
On sale tomorrow for me, still yet to make up my mind if I really wanna go.
|
| |
Walk away Croc... Even if I'm with you on the Muse, Tool, Neil Young debate. Although, I can see the other side of the argument as well. There is a great feeling when a band tours for the first time in a long while. Look at AC/Dc as another example.
|
| |
WOW YEAH MUSE AGAIN AWESOME
Also Alligator is thirteen we all know this
|
| |
I'm looking at it as the glass half full DavID. I've never seen Muse play in an outdoor OR festival setting.
|
| |
Glass half full is Mastodon, TMV, Girl Talk and the Decemberists.
|
| |
^ Vool and Bluejuice also.
|
| |
I'm talking the internationals, everyone's seen the locals.
|
| |
fair 'nuff.
|
| |
I haven’t seen any of the locals on BDO. I feel so dirty for that.
|
| |
I don't get how you couldn't have.
|
| |
Well, Eskimo Joe and Grinspoon are the only two that have come to my town and Grinspoon played at a pub, and I wasn’t paying $45 to Eskimo Joe. The rest aren’t worth a 4 hour trip to see by myself because my friends don’t like them.
|
| |

|
| |
You seen The Temper Trap & Ladyhawke (ARIAs say she is a local) DavID? They are the 2 locals I'm most interested in seeing.
|
| |
*If you get tickets.
Looks like its gunna be a battle to get them this year.
|
| |
Wow, I forget some of you are in even more out-of-the-way places than I am.
Seen Ladyhawke but wouldn't mind seeing TTT.
|
| |
Third line up is out. Not that great though.
|
| |
Fear Factory was a bit of a surprise.
But yeah, SoundWave > Big Day Out.
|
| |
Yeah, I tought the same.
And that's a given Davey.
|
| |
Calling All Cars are heaps of fun live.
|
| |
Good point William. I'm hoping they're on early as a bit of a warm-up the crowd act. Will definitely see them if so.
|
| |
Oh hell yeah. And they're side-show was the fastest to sell out down in Melbourne... Along with Passion Pit. That reminds me, I have to listen to the latter.
|
| |
Local acts are always on early, Calling All Cars will open one of the small stages like Trial Kennedy did last year.
|
| |
So, the Sydney timetable is here:
http://www.accessallareas.net.au/tourimages/syd-sat-23.jpg
The Muse/Karnivool clash has got me praying that Melbourne is different.
|
| |
The Muse/Karnivool clash has me terrified for melbourne! Muse were the main reason I'm going, but Karnivool were fkn high on my 'to see' list.
|
| |
Guys, it's fake.
|
| |
There's no way they can do that clash with Muse. I mean, it would be the end of the world... Terrible for all of us here... Shocking... There'd be riots... No way... No way at all that Muse clashes with.... Phrase!
And who is this band called Special Appearance that gets to play multiple times?
I think the NZ one is real & not this. The Oz timetable won't be exactly the same as the NZ one, but I think it will be similar.
|
| |
Clockwork > The Resistance
NZ one is also fake
|
| |
Agreed.
I'll continue:
Clockwork > Resistance > Sound Awake.
|
| |
(swims past bait)
|
| |
I'm late to the table, what's fake guys?
|
| |
The timetable released to Access All Areas
|
| |
Oh really? I haven't bothered to check and see if the NZ one is up yet.
|
| |
Kasabian
|
| |
Failsabian
|
| |
(Couldn't swim past bait twice... It seems Croc is a better fisherman than I am)
|
| |
woo!
|
| |
Real timetables are up, kidlings. Mine is perfect:
Sugar Army 11.00 – 11.45
Bluejuice 11.45 – 12.30
Karnivool 12.30 – 1.15 :D
Calling All Cars 1.30 – 2.10
The Temper Trap 2.15 – 3.00 / Eskimo Joe/ Whatever
Rise Against 4.50 – 5.40
The Middle East 5.30 – 6.15
The Mars Volta 6.30 – 7.30
Grinspoon 7.30 – 8.30
Muse 8.40 – 10.00
|
| |
I Heart Hiroshima 11:30-12:10
Blue Juice 11:45-12:30/Lisa Mitchell 12-12:40
Karnivool 12:30-1:15
Mastodon 1:15-2
The Temper Trap 2:15-3
The Decemberists 3:30-4:20
Rise Against 4:50-5:40
Devendra Banhart 5:30-6:15
The Middle East 6:15-7
Grinspoon 7:30-8:30/Powderfinger 7:30-8:30
Muse 8.40–10.00/Fear Factory 9-10
|
| |
Wicked! I can dodge Powderfinger and go see Grinspoon? Win!
Karnivool
Mastodon
Kasabian
Eskimo Joe (Lunch? wander round? kill some time perhaps?)
Rise Against
Jet
Grinspoon
MUSE!!!
|
| |
Depends how close you wanna get to Muse. If you want to be in the D, you'll have to sit through Powderfinger..
|
| |
I just wanna be able to see to be honest...
Powderfinger didn't do much for me live when I saw them and I think i'll go exploring rather than sit through Shitimo Joe.
|
| |
Ugh... So many clashes & cross-overs. Seriously, what's with all the 10-15 minute cross-overs between sets. It's not that difficult to minimise that.
My clashes are right from the beginning:
- Miami Horror vs Sugar Army
- Karnivool crossover with Kisschasy who crossover with Calling All Cars
- Kasabian vs Temper Trap (a silly clash)
- Passion Pit vs Girl Talk (nonsensical clash... what were they thinking?)... & they crossover with Hilltop Hoods (making it even more ridiculous)
- Phrase crossover with Muse which is basically a clash considering the Muse crowd.
Where are those guys that did the false timetables when you need them?!
|
| |
lol screw the fake ones. These ones are perfect!
|
| |
Hey Billy, how many songs will Karnivool sneak into a 45 minute set?
|
| |
I reckon the timetable is perfect.
|
| |
Looks like I'm outnumbered here. You guys have much too limited music taste.
Why couldn't BlueJuice clash with Kasabian. Damn it, I'm gonna have to bring my skipping rope.
|
| |
lol yeah I admit I only wanted to see a few of the bands :D
I still need to get more Mastodon and Kasabian. Which Kasabian record is better? 1st or 2nd? I loved the 3rd one to bits.
|
| |
Croc, their 1st one is better... BUT I think you may like the 2nd one a little more.
Basically, their debut has more of a dancey feel & has a lot of "processed beats". Their 2nd album is more towards straight out rock & has 2 or 3 good singles & then drops off badly.
|
| |
1st Kasabian beats the crap out of the second.
|
| |
Yeah i've heard that a lot. I might pick up the first since I've heard all the singles from the 2nd anyway.
|
| |
As long as you can recite the words "shoot the runner, shoot, shoot the runner", you'll be right.
|
| |
Hahaha. Looking foward to that song.
|
| |
I wonder if Muse will come out & perform the riff seeing they used it on 'Uprising'.
|
| |
Hey Billy, how many songs will Karnivool sneak into a 45 minute set?
Fishies aren't biting today....
|
| |
Hehe. I'm still hoping for a Birds of Tokyo heel turn. Chair-shots ahoy I say.
|
| |
Speaking of, Birdies have been playing a new song recently. It sounds quite tasty.
|
| |
We shouldn't expect anything less. I was going to head down your way to Solar to see them, but didn't think that group of acts was worth the price.
I did read an article that BoT have already written a good portion of their next album.
|
| |
Indeed they have:
With pre-production finished in Perth prior to Christmas BIRDS OF
TOKYO are heading to the studio today, January 4th, to begin their
third studio album.
We can't divulge too much information, but can confirm that the Birds
are working very closely with Scott Horscroft (Silverchair, The
Presets, Sleepy Jackson, The Panics) and will be spending the better
part of the next 3-months abroad
|
| |
Hmmm... Karnivool are touring the States some time soon, so I wonder if they'll be together.
|
| |
'tis quite possible. Although Kenny doesn't have to be there for the whole recording process, normally vocals are done last so there would be a little bit of leeway for him and Karnivool.
|
| |
Ooh Karnivool. Looking foward to be being mighty impressed!
|
| |
