RIP Greg Brown 2026-02-12 by DatsNotDaMetulz | 9 Comments | Former Cake guitarist Greg Brown has passed away after a short illness. Brown was considered a major part of Cake's success during the 1990s, including penning their hit single "The Distance", before leaving the band shortly after the release of Fashion Nugget to pursue other endeavours including Deathray and Homie, before returning to Cake in 2011.
Statement from Cake:
"It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of Greg Brown’s passing after a brief illness. Greg was an integral part of Cake’s early sound and development. His creative contributions were immense, and his presence — both musical and personal — will be deeply missed. Godspeed, Greg."

Iconic band with such a unique sound. I heard their cover of I Will Survive first, and thought they’re a joke band. But then I jammed Fashion Nuggets and my jaw dropped. RIP Greg.
