Gonna be a hell of a task to find someone that can play his material and write with them.
| |
this guy is a fucking monster. I highly doubt their next album will measure up with him gone.
| |
No well-wishes 🤔 Suspicious.
| |
Yeah NGL Archspire are so driven by their ridiculous drum proficiency that I feel this would transform them as a whole but who knows! Maybe this will bring some other insane talent to light. Good fucking luck to ever tries to fill these shoes lmao
| |
maybe if they paid him more he'd stick around! Lars Ulrich sucks and look how much they pay him! He almost never complains!/s
| |
Based off his performance in that video...good fucking luck to any tryouts.
| |
Give alexgrind a call
| |
I'm sure they read this, yeah
| |
The YouTube auditions are not looking to good...
| |
band is fucked, his calibre of playing is irreplaceable
| |
I want to see Jamie St. Merat, George Kollias, Inferno, and Aaron Kitcher audition just for the spectacle
| |
Damn. Tough shoes to fill, to say the least.
| |
Garrett Miller has a great quote from his reaction to the posted video: "It's like someone programmed drums and dared him to learn it". Your average Youtube drummer isn't gonna have the stamina to make it through an entire set playing at this pace and intensity. What do you even do if you're Archspire?
| |
Well if they have the technical ability and they’re young ish then the stamina part would just be a matter of training.
| |
"It's like someone programmed drums and dared him to learn it" is literally how Pete Sandoval got the Morbid Angel gig lol
| |
Welp. Why bother enjoying things.
| |
Man what an incredible talent, I hope he continues to create and play for years to come.
As far as the band goes I'm sure there is some young kid out there busting their ass every day for an opportunity like this and I hope that he/she gets that chance and crushes it
| |
Band’s overrated, and he’s not THAT crazy in the scheme of tech death drumming, at least not to the point of impossibility or that other people don’t play comparably. Might take a while but they’ll probably be able find someone.
| |
Maybe they'll rope in Billy Ryhmer to fill in for the mean time. Billy's probably got the chops for it but not the time to be in the band full time
| |
Yeah, plenty of drummers out there who'd get through an Archspire set at moderate sweat levels. Marco Pitruzzella could probably play that stuff half asleep and with one arm amputated. The band's tendency to tour a lot will be the limiting factor and likely was the reason for Prewett's departure, seeing as his little one was born not long ago.
| |
Yeah their fans are being homers. "No way anyone else can even play like this!" There are tons of guys who can play to this level now
| |
Pretty sure Marco has the stamina, but the precision is something else entirely. I'd love to see him try though.
| |
I'll just leave this here... For anyone who thinks this dude isn't replaceable

| |
Someone did an AUM cover for their audition lol.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXBg_ARNxcs
But yeah, there are people that can play his material, gonna see some real talent come out of the woodwork to audition for this spot. My concern moving forward would be their writing ability.
| |
nipplehair it may be worth reading his description of trying this song:
"Learning this song have been such a pain in the ass, it was much more difficult than expected and I was so close to giving up learning it after the first 3 days, but then something just happened and out of nowhere did I got such flow, so I kept practising it and 2 weeks later did I finally had a take I was happy with. Learning a Archspire song like this have been a milstone and on my cover-list for a long time and I’m so stoked with the results, this is hands down the most difficult song I have recorded so far. I lost 2kg the last week of practising it since there was a few hot sessions those days haha.."
Now imagine having to learn an entire catalog and play it night after night. Again just because something looks well done on screen doesn't mean the actual work required isn't a massive undertaking that may not be worth the ROI. Working your ass off to potentially join a niche tech DM band isn't the same as trying out for Dream Theater or Metallica. Also, Spencer seemed to be one of the primary songwriters for the band. Learning a complicated drum tab and creating one that is just as, if not more complicated, are two very different things.
| |
I don't think anyone is saying that it would be anything but insanely difficult to learn to perform all their material, just that it's doable. It's gonna take a special talent and dedication for sure.
And they all write together from what I've seen, in the "making of" video they did for Bleed The Future they all got in a room and came up with parts together. Spencer was hugely important for sure, but they're all primary songwriters. At this point in their career I think several of the other members are capable of writing drum parts and taking on some of that burden.
| |
good god that AUM cover is insane
| |
"I want to see Jamie St. Merat, George Kollias, Inferno, and Aaron Kitcher audition just for the spectacle"
yes, and get Lille Gruber in there too
| |
Kollias could for sure play archspire stuff but I'm sure he's not interested
| |
Most of those other players mentioned make demonstrably better music than this. Would be an improvement for Aaron Kitcher or Alex Grind, I guess.
| |
Soooo happy I got to see this man play twice. Incredible talent. Yeah there's lots of top tier technical * speedy players these days, with learning from home being more accessible than ever, but it's going to take someone truly special to jump into Spencer's boots and be able to maintain themselves over grueling tours with near-0 room for error.
| |
You could say that about lots of other tech death/deathcore bands but yeah. Not sure why people elevate this drummer over many others in the genre
| |
alas, triggering triggers is an intrepid art
| |
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3i3vyeu-il4
Same guy that did the AUM cover doing back to back songs in one take, this is how you audition for the role imo.
| |
"Not sure why people elevate this drummer over many others in the genre"
cuz he's literally better
| |
Good god some of these bedroom drummers are monster players
| |
Just dropping by to say this guy rules but Lille is best dm drummer ever hands down its not close.
| |
post processing and sample replacement has made it easier than ever to sound much better than you actually are.
| |
Archspire drummer just has speed which many other guys have. Not much diversity in his style. Really boring to listen to through an entire album imo
| |
Lille Gruber isn't going to join Archspire in a million years lol. I enjoy their music but it is basically the Dragonforce of tech death and Lille's philosophy is to make recordings sound as natural as possible.
| |
ehhh I think this dudes definitely less replaceable than like a jay Weinberg buuut there is definitely people with the chops, the real question is said potential drummer in Canada and are they willing to move to Canada to play in a tech death band. their best bet is one of their friends/tourbuddies than some prodigy off of social media, but realistically they'll probably program the drum patterns for the next record than get a session guy to record it and maybe another for a tour stint

"Archspire drummer just has speed which many other guys have"
"Dragonforce of tech death"
Yeah, these are exactly the descriptors I was trying to find. Like, he's really fast but between the triggers and the roboticism, he's got more of a "guitarist making beats in a DAW" vibe than a lot of the other players mentioned in this thread that have speed but also have lots of feel, expression, and organicness in their playing. This dude is good at being a robot, which is cool to a point, but ultimately pretty boring. Would take a Sein Reinhart, who is a lot slower but much more musical, over this any day. Like, this band would be beneath someone like Jamie St Merat because his parts are infinitely more interesting.
| |
I mean if they had the money could probably hire the dude from origin. If they're desperate they can grab one of the many faceless/rings of saturn drummers lol. And yeah from what I've seen pretty much everyone in this band is a bedroom producer so no doubt they had a lot of input on the drums, I wouldn't worry about their records sounding diff but still think they'll have reapproach their live set for a year or so
| |
"Sein Reinhart, who is a lot slower but much more musical"
Not to be confused with Django Reinert, renowned Gypsy jazz-death metal virtuoso
| |
Not to be confused with the 2012 Tarantino film Django unchained
| |
Tough situation, to replace him they need one who is among the best in the world in this niche. That person must invest almost infinite time and effort to tour and record with a band that plays songs they haven't contributed to while making very little money. That's a lot to ask.

@Sevengill: I spelled dude’s name all kinds of wrong lol
| |
it was worth the imaginary crossover though
| |
so who's in the lead
nip's rec is still my favorite so far
| |
That guy has his own band, don't think he's auditioning. Cole (guy I've been linking) just dropped another one today, man is going after it and seems pretty fucking awesome to me.

That was a good watch, quite a thorough takedown.

funny mike was one of the guys who i thought could do session/touring for this band
| |
Yay I love metal drama
