It's giving Addicted vibes and I am all here for it.

Not bad, but not that great. I'll be curious to know how the rest of the album will sound, and I'm also curious if he'll ever release The Moth.
|
| |
Fun little track! I dig it! I do wish the drumming was a little more inspired though as it's tonally extremely basic.
|
| |
Sign me up as usual, Dev is a legend.
Of course he's going to release The Moth, he's just starting production on it now that Powernerd is done.
|
| |
Wow cool had no idea about this. Always love Devy
|
| |
Let me be the first to say this chugs absolute butt.
|
| |
he's having fun and that's all that matters
|
| |
My wife and I were cheesing so hard at the video. Love Devin
|
| |
omgomgomgomgomg
this is so fun and I am here for it
|
| |
he brought some Strapping into this and that's great.
|
| |
My favourite devy has always been addicted so I’m cautiously optimistic for this.
|
| |
can't stand it but i won't ruin the fun, glad he's enjoying himself
|
| |
embarassing
|
| |
Dude is an absolute treasure. Love this, love the video, what a goof in the best way. Looking forward to this

Love Devin as a person and fully support musicians not taking themselves seriously, the mans is allowed to have fun and do whatever the fuck he wants.
That being said his output is so fucking all over the place in quality and this is such a stark example of this guy laying a turd and his sea of superfans praising him as god.
The only thing this track benefits from is Devin's massive voice and production, anyone else performing this and it would genuinely be one of the worst things i've ever heard in my fucking life, my god these lyrics.

pet the cat motherfucker

I sadly feel the same way. I've religiously listened to everything the man has done since Ziltoid but this sounds like an Epicloud b-side. Not that bad, but gets stale quickly.
Clip is awesome though.
|

Yeah I love that he has his personality shining throughout all his albums and I get that he doesn't take himself seriously but if any other band would release this song it would get blasted...but maybe that's why Devin is so highly regarded because it's like he is in on the joke.
|
| |
"but maybe that's why Devin is so highly regarded because it's like he is in on the joke."
i'm struggling to comprehend what the joke even is though. it feels like i'm listening to the prog metal equivalent of the big bang theory - the joke is the absence of a joke and instead just really benign exclamations of nerdy shit. it almost feels patronizing, frankly.
all the poppier outputs from him before were pretty balanced all considered - epicloud wasn't just goofy shit all the way through. same with addicted. i'm gonna keep checking out his new stuff from morbid curiosity but he hasn't put out anything i've enjoyed in nearly a decade, perhaps it's time i accept i'm just not his target audience anymore. shrug

his bald head and no beard makes him look like a flying penis that plays pop metal
|
| |
Devy: *writes a joyfully dumb song about the dumb joy of rock n roll and petting cats*
People: Why tho?
|
| |
Devy is the man.
|
| |
Yeah I also glanced at an article that was something like dev saying 'i overthink every bit of music I ever do so I'm gonna stop doing that with this record' or some shit which gives me the impression this is just gonna be full on brain off dumb shit dev cranked to the max and it's going to be the fartiest and least good thing he's ever done.
Progmetal equivalent of big bang theory lmao.
|
| |
Yeah I am a recent Devy newcomer and I love a lot of his presentation but sometimes I meet it with an eyeroll and move on with my day. I enjoy his tunes, but he doesn't get a free pass on every fart joke
|
| |
Haven't really enjoyed anything of Devy's since Casualties unfortunately. I doubt this will change here as well.
|
| |
Catchy song is catchy. Devin is Devin
|
| |
Devin gets a free pass for shitting in guitar cases so a free pass for fart jokes ain't no thing. Dude's just out there making music for himself and anyone else who's along for the ride. This song and the petting cats chorus is gonna be a live crowd participation banger.
|
| |
old strapping was also brains off riffs riffs riffs so hmm
|
| |
Dev dropped off after the Ki - Addicted - Deconstruction - Ghost cycle, except for Casualties of Cool. Everything else has been between average to decent, with some great songs. I think he changed how he approached music around that time as he had those two years off, had a family, and his own studio. His greatests works were very immediate and spur of the moment, lightning in a bottle moments that relied a lot on his frame of mind & being inspired. Yes he still kinda does this, but for the most part he's gone from being able to be unique to kinda treading the same ground over and over. Addicted was great, but epicloud, sky blue, transcendence all started to become a bit too predictable.
|
| |
Transcendence has like 3 songs I REALLY like, Empath is by far my favorite thing he's done in recent memory but I'm a big fan of heavy busy bombastic ~overthinking~ Dev for sure. Otherwise hard agree with that comment and most of those later releases have bored me to tears on one listen and I never went back.
|
| |
I always find a few gems in his recent releases, Lightwork was great, Call of the Void is one of his best songs in the post-strapping era in my opinion.
|
| |
Devy: *writes a joyfully dumb song about the dumb joy of rock n roll and petting cats*
People: Why tho?
Cause Sputnik!
|
| |
Yeah anyone who said he fell off after listening to Empath is fucking insane
Empath was one of my favorite projects by him in general
And yeah, Lightwork was also a great time
|
| |
he fell off after casualties of cool
transcendence was garbage
|
| |
Wrong, Transcendence was great.
|
| |
Transcendence wasn't bad but it wasn't really anything remarkable either. I've always been of the opinion that DTP should've ceased after Ghost, as Devin had released all the albums that were part of the original purpose of the project to begin with. Every DTP album after that felt like him gradually going on autopilot.
That being said, I'll definitely be there when the next Casualties album releases, I really liked the first one.
