That Mastodon-ish riff though.

| |
bass is BOOMIN
|
| |
Yes.
|
| |
Dustin always nails it, such a great vocalist. Decent enough song, but dead keen for a new album.
|
| |
nice
|
| |
Positive comment
|
| |
‘.5 The Gray Chapter’ is about the only one I can think of that’s forgivable for that.
|
| |
more sophisticated songwriting than anything on the last album
|
| |
Badass song, no doubt. However...
I can't help but feeling with this song (as I did with several on their last album) that they left a little meat on the bone. It's as if they have a really good song idea that they developed about 80-85% of the way, and then stopped. For instance, the bridge here that just repeats lines from the chorus and doesn't really change at all musically...they wouldn't have (and didn't) settle for that early in their career.
Still extremely good, just not quite fully realizing the potential. I think their discography has spoiled me...I now have thoroughly unrealistically high expectations for everything they do lol
|
| |
I fucking love that verse riff
|
| |
Article titles like these are so forced lmao. Better than saying “new single” I guess.
|
| |
Production is straight up sexy. It's a little on the nose lyrically but it's Thrice, I'll listen to anything they release.
|
| |
We just need a separate news section that just says "New songs"
|
| |
^ I agree with Freak.
|
| |
If the lyrics weren't "lean into the grey", do you think they would have titled the article "Thrice turn grey"? Methinksso
|
| |
some beggars vibes noice
|
| |
“Thrice turn Grey” 100% would have been it
|
| |
song's pretty good, verse riff is sweet but this is basically just more of the same from the band
|
| |
too bad asking for new features from sput is like pissing in the wind at this point
|
| |
This was okay.
|
| |
Great song, but feels at times solely made for radio play. That said, I’ll take this style anyday for a radio hit than “Blood On The Sand”. Always skip that track on TBEITBN
|
| |
i like the song well enough, hopefully there's a full album announcement soon
signing to epitaph is promising
got my presale tickets, lets ride
|
| |
never jammed thrice much but this is actually lit as hell
|
| |
hell yeah this is some fine fine dad rock
|
| |
This was okay [2]
|
| |
This is way better than anything off their shitty post grunge record, but still not that impressive.
|
| |
really with they'd be more experimental. songwriting is super basic and they've done all of it before. not interested in a common man's moral/politic rambling either. maybe it's just me who outgrew them but, either way, with this song i can say they're not my favorite band anymore.
|
| |
ok
wish i could still get excited by anything from these guys
|
| |
'This is way better than anything off their shitty post grunge record, but still not that impressive.'
Which one?
|
| |
to be everywhere has some songs that are sick live but otherwise its boring
black honey is decent discount at the bottom tho
|
| |
Ain't bad.
|
| |
Digging it.
|
| |
The riffs are nice but the vocal melody is pretty lackluster
|
| |
It's good, though it's the type of thing they can write in their sleep at this point.
|
| |
"not interested in a common man's moral/politic rambling either"
[2]
musically this is novel for them (intro riff caught me off guard for thrice) but structurally/vocally/lyrically its thrice by the numbers
|
| |
Nice. Solid song, and I like how the lyrics shed some light on Dustin's political/theological journey over the last few years. His writing has gotten a lot more obvious lately for better and worse, but this is mostly better.
|
| |
i do kinda wish dustin would go back to more abstract lyricism rooted in metaphor and mythology and whatnot, but that's probably wishful thinking at this point
|
| |
Man, that riff is sweet. I could go for some more bluesy Thrice. This kind of reminds me of the Helter Skelter cover they did back with Beggars, especially the production.
|
| |
love the bass, not a fan of the bluesy sounding guitars, I wish more distortion was used...
|
| |
Fuck I listen to his progression as a vocalist and I’m still amazed. It’s like he’s not the same guy from the early stuff he’s changed so much.
|
| |
this was excellent, can't wait for more!
|
| |
It's good but I still find myself just not awfully impressed by anything Thrice has done. Will definitely keep an ear out for this record though.
|
| |
yea it's almost like he's aged 20 years!
|
| |
to be fair a lot of musicians age 20 years without improving as much as Dustin
|
| |
song was decent. but thrice singles are always their worst songs in my opinion. album im sure will rule.
|
| |
"This kind of reminds me of the Helter Skelter cover they did back with Beggars, especially the production."
100% agree
|
| |
i do kinda wish dustin would go back to more abstract lyricism rooted in metaphor and mythology and whatnot [2]
|
| |
"
Thank god they spelled 'Grey' correctly "
Gray and Grey are both correct.
|
| |
hm.. yeah this is incredibly boring
|
| |
"This kind of reminds me of the Helter Skelter cover they did back with Beggars, especially the production."
yeah, it sounds a lot like Beggars, the beat sounds a lot like 'Talking through glass'. Anyway, the track is great!
|
| |
Good to hear new stuff from them
|
| |
do people honestly not realize grey and gray are used interchangebly
interesting to see how you could become so certain only one is correct
|
| |
Pretty sure the gray/grey thing was just a joke, guys..
|
| |
it's solid, but nothing more. Wish they would do something more like their vheissu sound again. The beggars sound gets boring so quickly. Give me something interesting
|
| |
idk one dude seemed to take him seriously
|
| |
Song rules holy shit
|
| |
I am so glad they are no longer overtly pushing christian imagery and bullshit
|
| |
I'll take the Christian imagery over the political/social commentary of the last album
|
| |
yes
|
| |
I'm all about this. Sometimes a banger is all you need. Not everything needs to be abstract / experimental.
|
| |
Goddamn, the song titles on the new album are so bad
|
| |
did they announce a new album?
|
| |
Itunes listed it. "Palms" due out in September.
1. Only Us
2. The Grey
3. The Dark
4. Just Breathe
5. Everything Belongs
6. My Soul
7. A Branch In the River
8. Hold Up a Light
9. Blood On Blood
10. Beyond the Pines
|
| |
hmmm...interesting
|
| |
Although I do really enjoy the Grey, so I'll hold judgement on the lame titles until I hear the tracks
|
| |
the grey is so good
|
| |
Sounded great when they played it live too
|
| |
