At the Drive-In rumours untrue 2009-06-19 by AtavanHalen | 34 Comments | Cedric Bixler-Zavala, former vocalist for Texan post-hardcore band At the Drive-In and the current frontman of The Mars Volta, has backflipped on previous comments that his former band could possibly reunite in the future.
"No, no, it's not true," Bixler-Zavala clarified in an interview with Clash Music, alongside Mars Volta guitarist (and fellow ATD-I alumni) Omar Rodriguez-Lopez.
"The whole thing is that we've buried the hatchet, so that's all that matters", he goes on to state.
Rodriguez-Lopez, who released a solo album earlier this year, also put in his two cents. "I think we're smart enough to never say never, as a lot relies on how you can change over a lifetime", he ponders, before questioning: "...but would you wear your old t-shirt and pants that were your favourites when you were seventeen?".
It seems the feeling on the reunion is mutual with Jim Ward, former guitarist with At the Drive-In and current frontman of the bands Sparta and Sleepercar.
"I don’t think that I’ll be answering any questions or doing any interviews anymore, thank you very much", commented Ward in an email to Buzzgrinder. "I haven’t got much to say about anything except with songs which I will continue to make and release".
The rumour mill was fired up in response to a statement Bixler-Zavala gave to Drowned in Sound earlier this month. When questioned about a reunion in the future, the vocalist stated that he personally "wouldn't mind it".
"Y'know, it might happen, we just have to iron out a lot of personal things", he stated. "A lot of it we've dealt with already and I've apologised for a lot of things I've said and the way it ended...we'll see what happens.”
Since the break-up of At the Drive-In in 2001, Bixler-Zavala and Rodriguez-Lopez have made five studio albums; the most recent of which, Octahedron, is available for streaming on the group's MySpace profile ahead of its June 23 release.
