New Manics Album Information

2009-04-07 by Final Origin | 14 Comments
Manic Street Preachers have unveiled the tracklisting and artwork for their upcoming album "Journal For Plague Lovers", which is set to be released on May 18th. The album is said to contain all lyrics written by ex-band member Richey James Edwards, who disappeared on 1st February 1995 and was presumed dead last year.

The Manics posted on their website: "All 13 songs on the new record feature lyrics left to us by Richey. The brilliance and intelligence of the lyrics dictated that we had to finally use them. The use of language is stunning and topics include The Grande Odalisque by Ingres, Marlon Brando, Giant Haystacks, celebrity, consumerism and dysmorphia, all reiterating the genius and intellect of Richard James Edwards."

The Tracklist of "Journal For Plague Lovers" is as follows:

Peeled Apples
Jackie Collins Existential Question Time
Me and Stephen Hawking
This Joke Sport Severed
Journal For Plague Lovers
She Bathed Herself In A Bath Of Bleach
Facing Page: Top Left
Marlon J.D.
Doors Closing Slowly
All Is Vanity
Pretension/Repulsion
Virginia State Epileptic Colony
William’s Last Words

The artwork was done by Jenny Saville, the same painter for the band's 1994 album, "The Holy Bible": http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/7/7b/Journal_for_Plague_Lovers_album_cover.jpg

Two songs from the unreleased album have been circulating around the internet:

Awesome. Those two songs sound better than pretty much anything I've heard from the last four albums of theirs. They've been holding out on us!

My friend's already got a pre-release copy of the album, but she won't let it out of it's case until the release date it seems :P I've been trying to get into the Manics, and this has just reminded me that I've got to try and listen to The Holy Bible by the end of tomorrow

I really enjoy both the old Manics and the newest album send away the tigers. Either way, I'm excited and didn't even know an album was coming out until now.

I know... she's worried that the police will detect it (how they're supposed to do that from a CD player I don't know) and arrest her. Well, so she says. Maybe she's just trying to savour the wait :S

The two songs were both pretty good, I'll definitely get the album though I think their old stuff is overrated.

I have known about this for a long time, none the less, great news. I heard the tracks this morning, it sounds like the album is going to be a mix between Gold Against the Soul and Send Away the Tigers (remembering that was a mix of Generation Terrorists and Everything Must Go)

I thought they were both riveting, though I wish Jackie Collins Existential Question Time was longer. Anyway I am just glad these guys are not afraid to dig up their past and try to improve upon it.
