Halford: No Straight Men, Please 2008-08-24 by Dave de Sylvia EMERITUS | 15 Comments | Judas Priest frontman Rob Halford has taken a sly dig at former Priest wailer Tim "Ripper" Owens, claiming that he doesn't "think a straight man can do my job."
Halford made his feelings known in a recent interview with the Dallas Morning News, stating: "To be brutally honest, Jugulator and Demolition were affected by my not being in the band, much like when Bruce Dickinson went away from Iron Maiden, the way Van Halen [was] affected when David Lee Roth left. But I don't think a straight man can do my job in Judas Priest. I've never said that before. I'm sorry, but they can't."
Owens laughed off Halford's comments in an email to news site and OBNOXIOUS CAPS LOCK specialists Blabbermouth.net: "HAHAHAHAHAHA... Rob can be a funny dude! I feel like I did a good job in Priest and I'm straight! But Rob is a friend and the guys in Priest are all friends of mine! So, really, I will leave it at that.... But, man, that was a pretty funny comment. [It] had to be taken out of context or the question [was] just asked in a strange way, 'cause Rob would not just say that... I'm still laughing though. That just brightened up my day!"
Halford came out publicly during an MTV performance in 1998.

I'll never get how people could ever be oblivious to Rob's sexual orientation. I just picture him starting his coming out speech only to be halted with large shouts of "we know".
| | | this makes me laugh.
| | | lol Coc
| | | Ripper cant be gay. Halford is the only one allowed to be gay
| | | lol gays

How???
"Before we start this next song I would like you to know that I am in fact gay."...
| | | yeah um why dont you youtube it?
| | | nostradomus is about anal intercourse.
| | | NO STRAighDs ON(m) US
| | | So let me get this straight (no pun intended)
He gets to inflate his ego, and discriminate based on sexual preference, and people continue to respect him.
Rob Halford's the man.
| | | Gained a lot of respect for Owens here actually.
These out-of-context quotes always start fights with former band-mates and whatnot. Glad to see that Owens actually trusts his friends enough to take a comment in the media with a pinch of salt...
But I agree with Halford....just listen to the end of Jawbreaker....definitely a gay man. ;)
| | | Does Owens still sing for Iced Eath? God, that was a terrible move.
| | | i agree no straight men please
| | | Pretty much my life motto.
| | | So what Rob is saying is that his leaving of the band was a relief, because his vocals started to suck, and after he left, the band got to explore new and far more interesting themes and ideas? Because THAT'S what happened to Maiden.
Not that I'm saying Bruce's return was a bad thing, on the contrary, Blaze was fun and all, but not Maiden material. It's the instruments that got to evolve and better themselves even more. Plus more enlightened Maiden fans (that's right, I'm being an elitist :D) accept the Blaze era, while everyone hates the Ripper era.
Poor Ripper. Why did he have to try and replace TWO great vocalists. At least now he isn't replacing anyone special (I honestly cant remember a single Rising Force vocalist), but his deserved stagelight once again is diverted to someone else... start a solo project, man.
