ATTN: Rock & Metal Fans

2008-05-12 by Jom STAFF | 11 Comments
At the Sputnikmusic community forums, which is rumored to soon revert back to the MusicianForums.com domain, the Rock & Metal forum is kicking off a project that requires strong participation - all are welcome, although a firm knowledge base in either rock or metal is encouraged.

The project is "Essential, Definitive Rock & Metal Albums," where users will nominate albums for most subgenres in rock and metal, some of which are unavailable on the reviews site. Using a stratified, ranked scoring system, the final results will be posted after the deadline.

Users do NOT have to submit lists for each genre and are instead encouraged to submit lists on the genre(s) they are most knowledgeable in. The genres are as follows:

Metal
Traditional Heavy Metal
Death Metal
Thrash Metal
Black Metal
Doom Metal
Power Metal
Progressive Metal
Folk/Viking Metal
Grind
Metalcore
Deathcore
Nu/Mainstream Metal
Industrial
Drone/Traditional & Stoner Sludge Metal

Rock:
Classic Rock
Mainstream Rock
Hard Rock/Hair Metal/Sleaze
Pop Rock/Powerpop/Glam Rock
Alternative
Post-Rock/Post-Metal/"Atmospheric Sludge Metal"
Progressive Rock
Psychedelic Rock
Jam Rock
Fusion
Folk Rock
Krautrock
Noise Rock
Stoner Rock

To commute between the reviews site and community forums, all you need to do is log-in, as your username and password are shared between the two junctures. Be advised that the time-out feature on the forums is relatively short.

For more information, please read the first two posts here:

Contribute accordingly in the above thread before moving on to submitting FINAL submissions at this location:

Great idea. I can see this being very useful once it's complete.

There's going to be big arguments about whether certain albums fit into certain genres. Otherwise, this is going to be pretty cool.

Very cool idea. Likely to spark a lot of debates though.
