Green Day Promise "Event" 2006-06-01 by Hep Kat | 26 Comments | Apparently finished with racking up award's for their pop-punk smash American Idiot, Green Day have only one task left before work begins on the album's follow-up: build new trophy cases.
"We went to Ikea," singer Billie Joe Armstrong joked at last week's American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers Pop Music Awards.
"Yeah, it cost me 50 bucks, but it took me two years to put it together," bassist Mike Dirnt added.
All jokes aside, the band has already been working on their next project, which has an unofficial name of "cool projects."
"Everything that we do is contributing to something that we're going to put out," Armstrong stated. "We don't have a solid idea yet, it's just the beginning, but the beginning ideas that we have are really exciting.
"For us, everything that we do is completely, 100 percent passion- and energy-driven, so however we're going to come out with our next album, just be certain it's going to be an event, not just putting a record out," he continued. "At this point, to put a record out with like 12 songs on it and turn it in sounds a bit boring for us. So we want to definitely make something that is well thought-out and [that] all of our blood is put into."
So far, Green Day have been recording demos on a daily basis, in addition to their hand in the planning of a film adaption of American Idiot.
"It's definitely unfolding," Armstrong said. "Every single week there's more ideas about doing a film for American Idiot, and it's definitely going to happen."
Thank you to MTV News for the info.

Oh man a GD event? Can you say Stadium Ar-Green Day-ium?
Or something more catchy...
| | | Well, I didn't love AI, but I look foward to the movie and whatever else these guys are planning on.
| | | Hopefully they won't let us down like AI (eventually) did. This movie actually could kill them before this album comes out to try and make up for the last, since it's not only going to blow but is simply trying to squeeze every last drop of commercial gain out of AI.
Didn't mean to sound so negative. This Message Edited On 06.01.06
| | | I always get the feeling that these guys are planning an "event" and the cd is secondary.
| | | cool, cant wait.
| | | A dose of popularity to the head for these guys I guess. I wonder what it may be...
| | | It sounds like there taking there time and trying to put out somthing that shows the best of their ability which is good
| | | Unless their new material sounds like the good old days with Insomniac then I probably won't be interested.
| | | I agree with Thor.
| | | green day has always sucked.
| | | I really am not liking the idea of an AI movie...
| | | well if it sux you can rant about it
i think it'll be kind of interesting to see if they screw it up. maybe if they got quentin tarantno...
| | | I think if they got Michel Gondry it might actually work, though I doubt he stoop that low.
| | | i really hope they lose the make up and go back to how they used to be and make a cd like insomniac with a little bit of dookie and a strange song like misery. the movie will probably be a dissapointment just like AI was.
| | | Nah they're using Sam Bayer, the asshole who does their music vids. I posted a news thing about the movie.
| | | did sam bayer do their AI videos?
did sam bayer do their AI videos?
yes.
| | | I hope that they will be able to go back to their old style at least some, but with the experience they now have, be able to turn it into something a lot bigger. American Idiot was great for the first few months, but the songs got overplayed so much, I cant stand it anymore.
| | | 123.
| | | I agree, I think people can't stand it because of it's overplaying. I loved it when it first came out, but soon, with all the hype, I was like mehh. They became a bandwagon. When American Idiot was the only single, life was good.
| | | The message was over-rated and tired, and the music wasn't very original.
Expect the movie to have Bush's profile bathed in fire, as per the stereotypical Bush-hating deal.

| | | If AI wasn't so popular it would have been better
| | | The thing about the AI movie is it'll definitely suck if Sam Bayer directs it. It'll be one long music video. Rock movies like The Wall weren't big music videos. They had some stuff in them that made them watchable. Music videos are only somewhat interesting for that short period of time.
| | | egh hopefuly he won't be doing that. bayer did smells like teen spirit, right?
I agree with altrockdude. the hype ruined it. people went from thinking "oh, this is an average album" to "this Sucks!"
| | | if sma bayer directed teen spirit i would be kind of surprised. id be really fuckin surprised that he directed one my favorite videos and also all the AI videos that i hate (all of them).
