inb4 everyone says Davey Havok-turned-John Holmes is kind of attractive
song doesn't work tho
| |
Loved the first single but holy shit this is awful
| |
Called it. The AFI cycle of great first singles, then offensively mediocre album continues.
| |
I’m hearing a lot of Sisters of Mercy
| |
Really digging the goth-y post punk vibes this new album is alluding to
| |
Not as strong as the first single, but still very cool, looking forward to this record
| |
I don’t hate this
| |
nah, this is just as strong as Behind the Clock imo. looooooove the production, we're finally back in that regard.
| |
and umm let's see
17 Crimes (2nd) > I Hope You Suffer (1st)
Trash Bat (2nd) > Get Dark (1st)
idk how yall want me to do Bodies and Blood, both started with 2 singles so umm
TT/Escape From LA (1st) > Looking Tragic/Begging For Trouble (2nd) (and significantly so)
Aurelia (2nd) > Snow Cats/White Offerings (1st)
so
| |
Sounds great, though I'm very partial when it comes to Sisters-style post punk.
| |
I absolutely love it. The guitar work and instrumentals in general are gorgeous.
| |
Since Burials, yes…
| |
“ Loved the first single but holy shit this is awful”
The fuck it is, this is Sisters of Mercy in the best way. Have always wanted to see AFI lean into this sound since Burials. These singles are awesome
| |
You kidding me? This song is fucking great! What a solid 80's feel to it
| |
This fucking rules. I like the 2 songs released for this album more than anything in like 20 years.
| |
If you dig this aesthetic, check out Familiars - Hand of Glory for a band doing it as their native language rather than a developing style
| |
Love the Sisters of Mercy goth vibe.
| |
Sorry y'all I just reallllly hate the goofy dramatic thing he is doing with his voice in the chorus lol
Rest of the song is fine
| |
Was just looking them up because I was wondering what became of these guys after "Miss Murder". Full-blown goth rock is not what I expected at all, but sounds pretty decent
| |
@AnEpicDeath there is a lot of good stuff to check out from the between Miss Murder and this!
| |
Crash Love is a personal love for me but I think Burials and The Missing Man are def what you're looking for if you haven't heard anything from these guys since DU
| |
Crash Love and The Blood Album are their best post-DU LPs and it's not close in my book.
| |
idk if this is "Single" material but it certainly is a good song.
| |
Burials is the best post-DU for me.
| |
Okay I like this song a little bit… but as a single I’m not sure. Leans a bit into the blaqk audio direction with the dancey electronics
| |
The music is quite dope, maybe not my favorite vocals from Davey on this one
| |
Honestly liked this one better than the other one.
| |
god this is even more of a mess than the first single - i really don't get the vocal approach here. it's so corny and any drama he tries to create ends up just sounding like reverbed mumbling. davey can absolutely pull of vocals in this style as we've seen by previous AFI and dreamcar stuff.
this might be the first album by AFI i actively hate at this rate.
| |
lmao. This is so weird for AFI but I kind of dug it
| |
It’s hilarious hearing Davey sing like the goth king he’s always been but now looking like the guy who gives you mushrooms for the first time
| |
I just realized that Behind the clock is a perfect combination of The Malkin Jewel by Mars Volta and the Please Touch Me song from Tim and Eric lmao.
| |
Davey sounded like a parody of a crazed artist in his video interview for the first single
| |
This track is awesome and I feel like Davey has done a great job of leaning into his vocal changes over the years with these first two singles. I think this is the best AFI has sounded since Sing the Sorrow.
Also, the chord changes around the lyrics "cheap beads, going up down the rosary" are super beautiful and melancholy. Sounds like classic Jade songwriting, but in slightly different packaging. I love it.
| |
Loved both singles. Behind the clock is one of my SOTY while this i'm sure will work better in the context of the album.
Bring on the rest!
| |
Those vocals are like a bad parody...
| |
Feather, was that the interview where he goes on and on about the Muppets?
| |
Yes. It was very uncomfortable to watch as a big AFI fan and really killed my hype for the album.
| |
Sisters of Mercy is spot on. I dig the guitars and lot more on this but im still not 100% into the vocal style yet. I also hate Davey's moustache.
| |
seriously, listen to this:

and this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nlQW3_twlOw&list=RDnlQW3_twlOw&start_radio=1
and it's exactly behind the clock lmao
| |
Good track.
| |
Interesting but not something I can get myself to really care for.
| |
If you’ve never been a huge fan of AFI and you’re into postpunk, this is not that bad. His vocals make sense for the style.
| |
Never been into these guys much but really digging the new songs
Will have to check out the album
| |
Oh wow that's a real moustache. I saw the music video for the first single and thought that was just part of a costume. wow
| |
What in the hell is even this band
| |
What in the hell is even this band
| |
It is AFI
| |
goated band
| |
This song is so damn good. Has been in constant rotation since it dropped
| |
Surprisingly solid.
| |
These vocals are like a good* parody...
This is neat, but it could go harder.
| |
I like this one even better than the first and I loved that shit. LFG
| |
New single bangs
| |
im waiting til the album cuz might as well but still so glad we got 3 pre-release singles instead of 7 lmao
| |
This rules
