This is surprisingly good
| |
This is really good, surprisingly
| |
Very good, unsurprisingly.
| |
This album is going to fuck so hard.
| |
sounds great
| |
This is a solid track. Aesthetically everything is cohesive and dialed in. I hope the whole album is on this level. Davey's low vocals are awesome and I love the way the bass part crescendos as the track builds.
| |
I love the gimmick in music where some band members/lead singers will completely change-up their look for new album rollouts. It's like checking out a new game sequel and seeing how they upgraded the graphics lol
| |
I saw a quote from Adam where he mentions that this album is their most cohesive to date. That alone excites me greatly. This one track has me more excited than anything from Bodies or Blood.
| |
This is their best song in a damn long time
| |
This is sick
| |
Song's good, but it'd be a lot better if they cut some 30s from it.
| |
fuck yeah lets goooooo
| |
Dope song
Dope video
Dope stache
| |
I am so excited to see all these hype comments. Most hype I have seen for these guys in years.
| |
"a struggle to reconcile existence in a godless dystopia that lacks sanctuary, mystique, reason, and a chance of survival."
This is such a lame and dramatic quote that I am even more hyped. Hoping for something as cohesive and dramatic as STS.
| |
OK I'm down
| |
“a struggle to reconcile existence in a godless dystopia that lacks sanctuary, mystique, reason, and a chance of survival."”
sounds like a Tuesday to me
| |
I'm glad everyone is enjoying this one, but it's just not jiving with me. I guess I just miss punk band AFI.
| |
Punk AFI died over a quarter century ago
| |
lmao the vocal melody sounds like this sometimes:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nlQW3_twlOw&list=RDnlQW3_twlOw&start_radio=1
please touch me
Decent song though
| |
"Most hype I have seen for these guys in years." i thought we all liked Twisted Tongues?? no?
i will say, it almost feels like that hype never happened because the album as a whole didn't live up lol
| |
Honestly I dont get it. Boring sound. Expecting Burials or Decemberunderground vibes but this is full on art goth song. Maybe (hoping) their next song might be more faster.
| |
I genuinely think disrespectful and derogatory things towards people that think the new song is awful ngl
| |
song sounds cool but the album title reads like an AFI mad lib
| |
This is their best song in idk like 20 years
| |
Fantastic track, holy shit
| |
Song is solid. People who act like this is their first decent track in 20 years probably haven't listened to them for as long. They've been pretty solid throughout their career. Also, they've been leaning into this post-punk sound for a while now.
| |
“album title reads like an AFI mad lib”
I thought that too. Silver Bleed the Black Sails in the Sunset of Sorrow
| |
What JohnDillinger said. Best song in 20+ years is ridiculous. I'm not even that big on their post-December albums, but come on, there are some great tracks scattered over that time.
| |
Pretty boring.
| |
yeah saying this is their best in 2 decades is actually kinda insulting, like, what about the fucking "Missing Man" EP, Burials and Crash Love duhh, also song was nice, not my cup of tea so yeah but its fine.
| |
hm not sure about this one but i imagine it'll fit better in the context of the album
excited to hear it
| |
Bass is immense on this but I'm not feeling it much otherwise.
| |
I've never given this band a fair shake. I really enjoy this song, though I'm not sure it has a lot of weight as a standalone track. The best thing about it is that it makes me really excited for the songs I imagine happening around it. The appeal here is more of an aesthetic one than anything else. I love the massive production and the vocals are really great, but the song itself... we'll see. I feel compelled to check out more of their music for sure.
| |
@Concubinary the bass is great here, the drums are a REAL snooze.
| |
Im not huge on the vocals style Davey has been going for either. Its serviceable but ehhh im not sure this was a great song for the first single.
| |
@Deadwing42
Highly recommend checking out Burials and The Missing Man if you enjoyed this track. You may even find something to like with their side project, Blaqk Audio. Particularly their last two records Beneath The Black Palms and Trop d’amour.
| |
I guess I'm weird cuz I don't dig this at all. I haven't liked anything they've done since December Underground
| |
Davey kinda reminding me of Brad Delp with that look
| |
Davey is Fred Durst Jr now.
| |
"I guess I'm weird cuz I don't dig this at all. I haven't liked anything they've done since December Underground"
Ditto. Except I did enjoy Burials.
| |
@Americanzero and @Trebor If you havn't check out checked out Missing Man EP, you definitely should
| |
This is their best song since Burials. Weird seeing Davey Havok’s new look?
| |
Listening to the album now 😈
| |
Jealous
| |
what the actual fuck sowing
| |
Sowing!!
| |
@Feather. I'll check it out! Somehow that release completely flew under my radar.
| |
Saw them live with Green Day a few months ago and it was really strange.
Band was tight but the lead singer looked like they’d found him under a bridge after a bender and threw him on stage for 40 minutes. Dude did not want to be there.
| |
Really great single. Haven't heard this band since their popular album the one with girls not grey. Completely different sound here I like it but probably couldn't put up with a whole album of similar sounding stuff.
| |
davey has killed it every single time i've seen them, baffles me when i hear things like @whitenoise said
| |
This sounds as sleazy as Davey looks. Really dig it, seeing them in October, excited
| |
@Grey when I’ve seen them at headlining shows they’ve been incredible. When ive seen them at festivals they don’t look nearly as engaged and interested. I imagine it’s similar when they are opening
| |
when i saw them with 30stm last year, i shit you not, mightve been their best performance ive seen.
| |
Stoked for this album
| |
Has a Wovenhand vibe (but heavier)
| |
This is the most excited i've been about new afi in forever
| |
@Grey and I stand corrected! I considered going to that 30stm show despite not caring at all for 30stm. Wasn’t poppy opening as well? Weird bill
| |
poppy was their and she killed it!!
30stm was possibly worst big live band i've ever seen. made afi feel that much better in comparison
| |
Damn, wish I had been able to go. 30stm headlining really killed my hype for the show. I suppose I am going to see Foxing/Coheed/TBS soon and am not at all excited to see TBS bomb another live show lol
| |
Saw 30STM in 2009... I like their first two albums, especially their debut. I can even find something to like on their following albums. Jared has a great voice but he spent more time talking than actually singing at the concert I went to. Dude is so high on his own supply it's insane. Also hard to talk the band seriously when they make it so blatantly obvious that they just follow the trend of whatever music is topping the charts during the recording process.
Anyway, this new AFI album is going to be great.
| |
"Anyway, this new AFI album is going to be great."
Thats a dangerous way of thinking. Late game AFI are masters of putting out banging singles and exceptionally mediocre albums
| |
Sowing's opinion did not excite me but i'm not letting that kill my hype
| |
No shade but I pretty much never agree with anyone on this site so I don't put any weight behind anything that anyone says around here. Really, I don't put weight behind anything that anyone says about music in general.
| |
“No shade but I pretty much never agree with anyone on this site so I don't put any weight behind anything that anyone says around here. Really, I don't put weight behind anything that anyone says about music in general.“
👌
| |
my man on a music DISCUSSION website and think its cool that he never agrees with anyone there lmao
| |
lmao, never said it was cool, it's just the truth. Music is just way too personal and subjective. I'm interested in what everyone else thinks but it never really informs my own opinion unless it's something technical like production.
| |
"unless it's something technical like production."
genuinely intrigued by this comment - how do you differentiate between a technical and a subjective facet in music, lightchaotic? if production were merely a technical aspect all records strive to sound the same - a lot of artistic liberty and intent goes into production because it entirely flavours the way you perceive it, same as the colour palette you use with a painting does. you can respond the same way subjectively to a production choice as you can a vocal performance, so i find this to be a misguided distinction.
this whole schtick of being uttely resistent to other people's input when it comes to your own opinion seems ridiculous to me. other people's responses to things, even entirely subjective things, can - and should - alter or change your perception. to claim this has never happened to you seems intellectually dishonest or absurdly close-minded and wherever the truth of that is, it doesn't look good on you.
| |
"No shade but I pretty much never agree with anyone on this site so I don't put any weight behind anything that anyone says around here. Really, I don't put weight behind anything that anyone says about music in general."
No shade here as well but you offered the most milquetoast, generally universally agreed upon, sentiment about 30STM and then followed it up by opining that you never have an agreeable take about music on this website nor do you agree with anyone else. I think you'd be surprised by how normal your music opinions actually are. I'd love to hear one of your hot takes that would go against the grain here. Truly.
| |
yeah i cut it out of my response but there is something funny about someone asserting their fierce individuality and unshakeable opinions when they have the blandest fucking takes lol
even in this thread they agree with 95% of the people here so i'm dying to hear these hot takes
| |
You guys are fighting ghosts. My point was never that I have any burning hot takes or some holier than thou sense of individuality. I just don't take anything that people say around here too seriously. You've both demonstrated why perfectly.
| |
cus you're not capable of entering discussion in good faith? aight, got u.
| |
Ah yes, the good faith discussion of intellectual dishonesty, close-mindedness, and the blandest fucking takes. Why would I not want to enter that discussion? So much to gain! But it's alright, you've clearly got me all figured out so I wouldn't want to waste your time.
| |
i attempted to engage with you openly and honestly and asked you an open-ended question to engage with your opinion but you ignored it. i was genuinely interested in your take.
you do you babe.
| |
I think LightChaotic's initial comment has been interpreted in an overly literal, wooden manner. The basic sentiment behind it seems sound.
| |
"I think LightChaotic's initial comment has been interpreted in an overly literal, wooden manner."
That's the internet for you. Hyperbole, sarcasm, and sincerity are lost in equal measure and usually weaponized for the sake of argument or just being miserable.
| |
you can say that again
| |
100% agree. I didn't see anything wrong with the original comment but the yall made it weird. Can we get back to being stoked on new AFI shit?
| |
yea, can we bump this when the next single is out instead
| |
New single tonight at midnight EST.
| |
HYPEEEEEEEEE figured this week makes the most sense. album's out in less than a month and that's exactly how i like it
| |
oh my god, they are committing so hard to this goth sound
new single is fucking great, Hunter popped the fuck off
| |
I didn't like, it but I appreciate them trying the Bauhaus sound. Davey Havok really looks different.
| |

(CRAP I knew I double clicked, that was my impatience, well......soon enough all shall know where Home IS)).
| |
Great song, hyped for the entire thing
| |
Honestly, this record is shaping up to be a darker sequel to the DREAMCAR record and that's awesome because that record is fantastic. The production on both of these new tracks is so good. It's got the atmosphere of Burials but it trades the overly loud mix for something much cleaner, like Bodies had.
| |
yeah, production sounds fantastic. looove jade's guitar tone.
i hear the Dreamcar thing, the tag in the chorus is basically Born to Lie (no complaints).
| |
I feel like Davey’s vocal style changed many albums ago now (likely because of years of screaming damage and also aging), but they’re only just now leaning into a style that really compliments it. I can’t wait for this album.
| |
it's interesting, i think Davey sounds great and very complimentary to the music itself for both of these songs but maybe a little too safe? not in an uninteresting way but i hope he has some bigger highlights throughout the album. love the brief raise in Behind The Clock's last chorus, more of that.
that being said, i do think it works very well for Holy Visions. instrumental sounds so crisp, the hooks are def fun and the vibes are just vibing
