Has Tim lost the ability to sing in time or is the production on these tracks just that bad? Why are they purposefully making it sound like they recorded the vocals in a bathroom?

Sucks

"Why are they purposefully making it sound like they recorded the vocals in a bathroom? "
He has Crohn's?
|
| |
That explains how shitty everything is now
|
| |
This is what happens when you neuter an entire band.
|
| |
more energy here but whew the vocal production
|
| |
writing wise, i like the bridge but this just doesn't sound good
|
| |
Catchy song, not enough bang in the production
|
| |
I think Tim did a lot of damage to his vocal chords screaming his head off in his younger years. Seems like he lacks that power now. But that doesn't explain adding these crappy vocal effects to every song.
|
| |
Aw man, wtf happened to these guys? I just recently got back into their first 3 albums for the first time in like 15 years
|
| |
Man this is worse than Wolves, and that was rough.
|
| |
maybe it's the youtube quality but the vocals dont sound bad at all. I haven't listened to these guys in over 15 years and all I can say is the production isn't as sharp as it once was, but far from bad
|
| |
What are they fucking doing, bruh
|
| |
I listened to this on my spotify release radar this morning and didn't find it nearly as offensive as all of your comments here would let on. This isn't much different than anything they have been doing since 08 and its fine for what it is.
|
| |
I liked this one better. Still, weird mix, Tim is cooked and I will probably listen to the album only once
|
| |
Either the vocal mix or performance don't sit well with the guitar and drum feel in the greater picture. Second verse reminds me a smidge of old Placebo with the cymbal work. It's just soo muffled with no air.

His voice could work if they changed their arrangements so he wasn't trying to punch through the wall of sound with his less powerful current voice. AFI has changed their sound back and forth as Davey has approached with more or less intensity and the more synthy stuff gives him more space to sing less all-out. Sometimes Against Me leaves space for LJG to not be belting and those are cool songs. Tim sounds like he could have a cool voice still, if he weren't just doing a lesser version of what he used to
tldr: band's gotta adapt
|
| |
This is so sterile and ass
|
| |
i was thinking about AFI too and like regardless of their overall sound, Davey sounds fantastic still.
what's wild to me is that idk what happened between Wolves and now because Tim didn't sound absolutely shot until recently
|
| |
Sucks
|
| |
Give me more Ghost note symphonies and call it a day
|
| |
Attrocious couple of songs. So sad.
|
| |
It's better than the last single, but it still doesn't sound very good. I actually just played their first album yesterday mostly randomly and at least it still sounds powerful. If Tim doesn't want to scream anymore that's fine. I just wish the rest of the music felt like it still had some punch to it.

| |
Nowhere Generation was pretty great. Both these songs sound awful.
