I remember when Glowing Man was meant to be their last “big sound” album lol
| |
album cover was apparently taken from a Home Depot soil ad
| |
I am a tower.
I am the table.
I am the walrus.
Edit: wow, this isn't very good.
| |
8 track album. Rope and Away are two separate tracks.
| |
track is actually great, better than the majority of the last album
| |
Michael is not done
| |
Was there controversy about these dudes or am i a confused ect
| |
"Was there controversy about these dudes or am i a confused ect"
very confused
| |
this band has been a force for 43 years lol
| |
theres some cool heavy elements to it but its not as intense as I'd like, personally. For the length of it, it doesnt really build in the way Swans usually do
| |
Wait wtf they have put out 2 albums after The Glowing Man? Da fuq
| |
Based on this and the live performances from the last tour, this could be a very special album. Given that the album art very intentionally calls back to SFTB, it's probably going to be a definitive final statement too.
| |
Pretty good. Prob the closest they've sounded to GY!BE, especially the second half
| |
The guitars in the second half have a Seer feel to them too. Repetition has always been Swans' thing but the vertigo-inducing repetition on Seer also feels slightly present here.
| |
IF you think this is the first time you are lacking on the Seer album far as GYBE sound goes, btw GYBE are inspired by SWANS not the other way around
| |
Given what was played on their last tour this album should be absolutely insane. I loved the Beggar, I thought it was their best album since The Seer (Ebbing being a literal career highlight) so I am excited to see where they go.
| |
I mean sure, but the influence has swapped the last 15 years. Seer onward has been "what would a band sound like if Iggy Pop made post-rock"
| |
Abort, abort
| |
Okay good glad tk be confused
| |
Ectier, you’re thinking of the rape allegations against M Gira from 2016. Nothing ever came up in a court and there’s a lot of controversy with the allegations, with people who were present the night of and band mates of the alleged victim, Grimm, saying she couldn’t be trusted. Michael admitted that they were both drunk, they had sex, she passed out, and he claims he stopped.
| |
Their last album, the Beggar, is in my top 10 Swans albums, but there seemed to be a lot of lukewarm reception, unfortunately. The Beggar tour, documented on the live album, Live Rope, was fantastic as well. Very, VERY excited for this record.
| |
There’s never been a better time for a big ass-sound Swans album. Live Rope was a challenging listen, but still shorter than any of the Avatar movies. Would James Cameron approve?
| |
bet this sucks
| |
Pseudo-critics darlings. Meh.
| |
lol what shift has occurred here since the trilogy that people are shit talking swans now. These fuckin losers think Maruja is where it’s at now
| |
Maruja > refried Swans
| |
The ending section, that huge lush drone that hits around 17 mins is just gorgeous. Feels very post punk.
| |
Maruja > refried Swans [2]
This band, for as much as they deserved all the love from computer-tanned misanthropes, just confirms with every new release that they should have hung it up after TBK
| |
retirement band [3]
| |
wow this isn't very good [4]
the downward trajectory after the glowing man continues
| |
I really don't understand all the downward trajectory comments. I get that leaving meaning caught many listeners off guard but Beggar is gorgeous and so is this.
| |
Even Leaving Meaning wasnt all bad. Sure it was a little unimpressive but has a nice sparkle across the two hours that sets it apart from the rest of the slogs (incredible slogs) of their recent discography
| |
Big day for people who are always just waiting for their turn to talk
| |
I really don't understand all the downward trajectory comments [2]
Leaving Meaning didn't impress me at all but The Beggar was amazing, especially the first disk
| |
4.26 on RYM lmao
| |
Probably it’s only me, but I like leaving meaning a bit more than the beggar. The second disc is really strong, and then there’s the hanging man, the t/t and sunfucker off the first. But I also have to admit I’m even more hyped for that Maruja debut, good times ahead.
| |
This gets better with every listen, I don't really hype myself up for albums anymore but based on this and tracks on the Beggar tour that likely morphed into the tracklist for the album, it's looking very promising
