RIP Patrick Haggerty 2022-10-31 by Cyan isn't a shade of blue. | 6 Comments | Country musician Patrick Haggerty has died at the age of 78. Kicked out of the Peace Corps for being gay in 1966, Haggerty soon turned to writing LGBT-themed country songs. By 1972, he formed Lavender Country with like-minded individuals, who then released their self-titled debut in 1973 -the same year homosexuality was removed from the DSM.
Although the band broke up in 1976, Lavender Country gained a new audience following a 2014 reissue of their debut. Eventually, the band finally released their 2nd album, Blackberry Rose, in 2019. Haggerty continued advocating for LGBT rights up until his death.

I just got into Lavender country in June for pride month and absolutely fell in love with it
It's such a hard 5 and Haggerty kinda become my hero
I remember first running into that Story Corps video years and ago realizing it was the same guy as the Lavender Country guy pushed me to finally hear it
If you like gay-themed albums or country with great lyrics definitely listen to it
