i'd go with Leonard Cohen
|
| |
Madonna or Beastie Boys all the way. If Mellencamp gets it, it will just be depressing.
|
| |
Beastie Boys should win.
Metallica not getting this makes me very happy.
|
| |
Afrika didn't even release an album until 1984. First Beastie Boys album didn't come out until 1986.
Unless they're counting EPs, I don't see why those two are being nominated.
Where's Sonic Youth ._.
|
| |
Leonard Cohen should go in.
|
| |
Ah okay.
|
| |
Yeah, I'm gonna be the asshole who brings Rush up again.
These are pretty solid nominations, I suppose Mellencamp deserves to be up there...I just abhor him though.
If it were up to me:
Leonard Cohen
Rush
Madonna
Beastie Boys
Afrike Bambaataa
|
| |
captain beefheart should be in the rock hall.
|
| |
Metallica doesn't deserve a nomination. I personally don't care who wins out of these
|
| |
No love for The Ventures? Philistines.
|
| |
I vote for the Beasties
|
| |
I suppose that all the people who think it's trendy to think badly of old Metallica completely forgot that the alternatives include Madonna.

Like someone already pointed out, where's Sonic Youth? This Message Edited On 09.28.07

Metallica's first four albums were better than any bands four-consecutive album run ever. They'll get inducted eventually

I dono I think Rise Against could give them a run for their money
|

It's because of St. Anger( duh I guess). If producer Rick Rubin can salvage Metallica with the forthcoming new album, we'll see him inducted next time.
I can't believe the Beastie Boys beat them to a nod though! At least Leonard Cohen's awesome.
And Aficianado, I'm w you; where are the Youth?!

Maybe theyve had a lot of real good albums in a row, but in my opinion Metallica deserves a nomination because Kill Em All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, and And Justice For All are 4 absolutely essential thrash metal albums that influenced myriads of bands today.
Ehh, my old Metallica fanboy-ism is creeping out again
|
| |
I would think that RA is going to have to keep up to the pace their at right now for a couple more albums. They've lost a fair amount of their edge, but it works because they're doing it tastefully, they're great songwriters, they're political (and thats in right now), and McIlrath is fucking bomb. I don't see them putting out many more albums of the caliber they've done for much longer.
But I really hope they do.
|
| |
I'm all for Afrika and Leonard. Metallica's time will come.
|
| |
|

I think Metallica are clearly deserving to be in the hall, I'm not sure why they weren't nominated.
Still I think it's hilarious that they were snubbed.
|
| |
I had never heard of the Dave Clark Five until now
|
| |
Metallica doesnt deserve hall of fame status considering they flushed their careers down the toilet with that horrible album called St. Anger.
|
| |
^How do you figure Sonic Youth doesn't make it? One of the most influential and consistently great bands of the past 25 years and still going strong.
|
| |
And no, Sonic Youth and the Beastie Boys should definitely NOT make it.
Wait... let me guess. The Beastie Boys are hip-hop, therefor they don't deserve the recognition, right?
|
| |
Metallica should get this, because thier fame and popularity is all they have going for them
|
| |
Where's Sonic Youth ._.
|

"A bad, late career album doesn't take someone out of the hall of fame. Most artists wouldn't make it then. What a horribly dumb thing to say."
Have you heard St. Anger. The worst album Ive ever heard in my life. Seriously, your comment is retarded for even showing sympathy towards a band that flushed its career down the toilet. This Message Edited On 10.01.07

I'm kind of shocked that the Beastie Boys would get picked over Metallica, not saying that Metallica is better, they are just more popular, and many times things like this are popularity contests.

To the_wizard: Many bands and artists go down the tubes late in their career: For example, in the same genre, Megadeth, Slayer, and Anthrax are no where near where they used to be in the 80's, and their music nowadays is subpar at best.
So because of St. Anger you're going to negate the fact that what they did from KEA to Black is ABSOLUTELY groundbreaking? C'mon, grow up. This kind of thinking is usually that of someone maybe in their preteens or younger teens, so If you are that age, maybe I'll cut you some slack.

Interviewer/surveyer,
You raise a very good point and I guess my ignorant thinking for my age is a little bit immature. However, my point was that St. Anger sounds like it was written by an amateur band (clarifying my point above). Megadeth, Slayer, and Anthrax had their roughs moments but never made an album that bad (well maybe Anthrax hahaha). I do agree with you that what they did from KEA to AJFA was groundbreaking, but that was it. I almost tend to forget sometimes that Metallica wrote music that good when I hear songs off St. Anger. That is why I don't think they deserve a Hall of Fame spot. They were amazing at one point and turned into one of the worst bands in metal today. That is simply just my opinion. You don't have to agree with it. I simply hate what they have become. Giving them credit for the HoF should only be done based on their first four albums.
