Watt?
|
| |
sadly a bit underwhelming, especially compared to the first album.
|
| |
this feels a lot more intimate than anything he's done before
i'm very excited for this

im so sad and i miss your love
*strum*

*strum*
|
| |
Very disappointing
|
| |
Yeah Im glad Im no the only one, its still 40 watt sunn, I like it but its kinda ..i dunno..clean sounding, Theres bit of the usual unquantifiable misery that doesnt seem to be there.
|
| |
Hopefully an outlier as far as the album as a whole in concerned, but this feels surprisingly weightless. Not even necessarily the lightening of sound, but iunno. Maybe it'll be a grower.
|
| |
weightless is a perfect description
|
| |
i think it's gorgeous. makes total sense considering his acoustic works and the last works.
i love how he's just stripped his sound down to all that's necessary.
|
| |
That is precisely the reason(s) why I think it's not great
|

I said on the previous album thread it sounds like RHP ‘Drop’ and it still does
The Kozelek worship has got even more obvious but who cares - it’s Mark Kozelek worship so the best sort
|
| |
Patrick Walker is like Kozelek but good
|
| |
man this is awesome
|
| |
fantastic track, such good ol' RHP vibes. Better than kozelek [3]
|
| |
Not better than Kozelek, I mean, c’mon - dude pretty much invented the sound and has released about twenty better songs that sound a lot like this tune.
But still, it good
It’s no Medicine Bottle, Katy Song, Mistress, Drop, Void…
|
| |
listening to the album now, will feed back
|
| |
Lucky, I got 9 hours till the drop (and may not even be able to listen till saturday)
|
| |
i need more time with it
there is one nitpick - i don't like the mixing. there are times where his vocals are so high in the mix they become shrill and overbearing and i'd like to be able to focus more on what the instrumentation is doing. the instrumentation is so layered and beautiful so it could be more balanced. it isn't an issue when you listen to a single song but on a front to back listen i felt a bit fatigued.
compositions are beautiful. want to delve in more.

I really like the new one, he's obviously listened to a lot of Sun Kil Moon around 'April' sort of era - this is not a bad thing.
Overall it is a more consistent album than 'April' though. My early impressions are it is slightly weaker than the previous album, but it goes more for outright beauty with maybe a little less misery.
