Modern opeth just sounds all the same to me

It’s all played at a similar tempo I guess, still this shows more ambition than the past couple of albums.

Keyboards have the annoying dad sonicz but I find both singles pretty solid. This is one of the densest Opeth songs I can think of, Mikael keeps growing as a musician and it's clear. The first single was less dense but also catchier and had that psych trip section that was definitely a novelty. Honestly this album, while giving strong Sorceress vibes in places, looks nothing like a more of the same to me.

listened to the swede version too and tho I think the vocal melodies during the chorus are great, instrumentally and structurally this is still really not interesting at all.

It's just not original and it really is more of the same honestly. There is nothing memorable or unique about the two songs so far. This is sounding like another 2.5 modern opeth album

Second half of the song is stronger. Great song overall. I'm biased, i never actually hated ANYTHING opeth has ever made. Love all their phases. I'd let Mikael punch me in the face

i liked Dignity quite a lot, they have me really intrigued for the first time since Watershed (even though Heritage was pretty good). feels good, i miss looking forward to new Opeth albums.

i like the other new song more. Anyone else here noticing the 'top gear theme song section", its from allman brothers but sounds like the end of the top gear theme lol.

It's good, I'm just not nearly as intrigued with this style still. Not just because of the lack of harsh vocals, but the music itself is just too far into old school prog, with the guitar and synth harmonization and long jam style passages. The heavy stuff just made the dynamics more interesting to me.

Yeah yeah it's fine, but just imagine how much better it would be if these songs were death metal. You can hear that's what they want to be.

Mike said in a recent interview "To me, the Swedish version is the main version, the most important version to me, and the version I want people to listen to first." and apparently just made the English version since he was afraid his fans wouldn't listen to it in Swedish. So far I'm preferring the Swedish versions, and think it adds a new element to their sound which works well.

Sounds good so far, although I hate those speech snippets with a passion. Pity they're incorporating more and more of them over the last couple of records.

They add to the mystery for me, album feels like a wacky crime detective drama with these two tracks.

They make me think of Within Temptation, which isn't good in this case.
