Butch Walker covers Survivor 2019-01-19 by Jom | 5 Comments | Singer/songwriter and Atlanta's jack-of-all-trades Butch Walker recently shared his cover of Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger". North American listeners may have noticed snippets of Walker's rendition being included in commercials for RAM trucks interspersed with Rocky Balboa-isms throughout the advertisement.
Said Walker about the song, which he had recorded several years ago: "I loved Rocky when I was a little boy. It was such a powerful movie that made this underdog feel like I could make it, no matter what adversity was thrown in my face. I still remember when I left my little town for L.A. to grab that tiger's tail.
Older guys in bands were telling my 17-year-old ass 'You'll never make it. There's too much competition. Stay here and be happy you're playing cover songs in clubs six nights a week...'
Nah, I'm gonna make it. I'm gonna make it in spite of you. So, here's a little cover I recorded of 'Eye of the Tiger' several years ago, one late night at my studio in Nashville . . . it was a fun stroll down memory lane."
Patrick Keeler designed the artwork, with the tiger sporting Walker's signature glasses:

| | | Yeeesh this sounds like Imagine Dragons. Love Butch, but his quest to stay on top of pop relevance is annoying at times.
| | | ^^^ It’s a go relevant or go home world out here.
| | | True, but damn Butch! You don't have to jump on EVERY trend.
