AOTY 2019
| |
I am above- what a terrible video and that octave shift at the end sucked hard but the song is still better than most of battles and siren charms
| |
Oh jesus
| |
Battles 2.0 if those songs are anything to go by.
| |
"alternative rock"
Genre tag is correct
| |
Nah they are hard rock nowadays
| |
That video for I Am Above makes the Wishing Wells video look like Citizen Kane
"Nah they are hard rock nowadays"
is there really a difference?
| |
Wait who's the nigga in the top thumbnail?? Is that Anders???
| |
Oh man This Is Our House is straight trash, hope is lost
| |
RIP
| |
Is there a difference? Pretty big one in my opinion. Alt rock is way softer and has a wider variety of sound. Hard rock is pretty narrow on the, well, rock sound that is harder than normal
| |
I love it when sputnik splits genre hairs and gets super serious about it!
| |
that album artwork is terrible too
| |
this is clearly hard alternative rock with punk and industrial rock influences, noobs
| |
OUR HOUSE
IN THE MIDDLE OF OUR STREET
| |
Jezus.. Can we please just officially call time of death and have a funeral where we listen to the time when In Flames was actually good. This feels like someone forget to tell them that they died at least 2 records ago, but are still playing on as zombies.
| |
These guys started off slowly but their recent output is straight-up fire, really looking forward to this one.
| |
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k55FYtqtXXU
| |
i enjoy
| |
Made it like a minute into (This Is Our) House and wow these guys are horrendous these days. Haven’t checked anything since A Sense Of Purpose
| |
If not for those shitty cleans, I'd like "I am above". The cleans sounds just as awfully over polished as with most modern metalcore bands.
| |
Who asked for this???
| |
FFDP fans who already want a new album
| |
dude in the video is the guy who plays Tyrell in Mr. Robot and I'm very disappointed he took part in this disaster
| |
I just don't have the energy to shit on this band anymore.
| |
"dude in the video is the guy who plays Tyrell in Mr. Robot and I'm very disappointed he took part in this disaster"
yeah, why DID they hire him? makes no sense
| |
Oh gosh, not another album again...
| |
I stopped caring around Come Clarity, just hope Dark Tranquility comes through in 2019.
| |
dark tranquility always comes through
| |
I am above is a good song but the video is dumb. This is our House was so blah.
| |
"Swedish alternative rock group In Flames have officially announced their upcoming thirteenth studio album, I, the Mask."
Wow, that was a good burn. Christmas sure came early.
| |
This is our house sounds like a WWE show opener.
| |
Paige should use it as her new theme song
| |
Now that she’s GM the “our house” would fit perfectly!
| |
Past decade it's the same shit each time these guys release something. Their whiny ass ''fans'' come out to bitch about the album yet they come back each time for each album. To do the same shit. Even though they know what it's going to be like.
| |
But yeah, I like at least one or two songs on every In Flames album so I'm going to listen to it.
| |
Listening to bad In Flames albums to own the libs
| |
"Swedish alternative rock group In Flames"
Just couldn't resist twisting that knife in my gut eh
| |
First track was a decent metalcore jam.
Our house is an abomination
| |
"alternative rock group In Flames"
Sad times we live in folks
| |
Since they're now alt rock, can we now compare them to Deftones and Radiohead?
| |
I love Mr. Robot
| |
I dont see why not
| |
"(This Is Our) House in promotion for the album"
that song is so horrible it's more like unpromotion
*dan swano voice* uhhhhhhh unpromotion
| |
Has anyone been to their concerts lately? I wonder what's their tracklist nowadays. This band probably has the biggest drop in quality I've ever seen. So many bad albums in a row. Even for such genre standard it's weak af. At least some bands realize their missteps and try with comeback albums which often aren't that great anyway but Friden & friends seem to be not caring at all. Does anyone actually listen to their new albums? They obviously keeping the name because they were one of bigger melodic death metal bands once and majority of their concert goers probably expecting Jester or Clayman era songs at least but I doubt they play any of those. In Flames A.D. when
| |
There is something kind of enjoyable about I Am Above. I didn't mind that one. Sure, it's a far cry from In Flames of old. But still a pretty solid track.
This Is Our House sucked. Made it halfway through and quit. No thanks
| |
Just looked up their setlist from last night in Philadelphia, the song distribution is as follows:
A Sense of Purpose 3
Battles 3
Sounds of a Playground Fading 3
Clayman 2
Siren Charms 2
Colony 1
Come Clarity 1
Reroute to Remain: Fourteen Songs of Conscious Insanity 1
Soundtrack to Your Escape 1
The songs from the "older" albums are exactly the ones you're thinking: Colony, Only for the Weak, Pinball Map, My Sweet Shadow, Cloud Connected, Take This Life.
The newer songs are at least the best songs from those albums. If you only want to hear The Jester Race or Whoracle, you're out of luck, but all things considered I think the setlist could be a lot worse.
| |
"Has anyone been to their concerts lately? I wonder what's their tracklist nowadays."
Here's two set identical set lists from the last 10 days:
https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/in-flames/2018/the-theatre-of-living-arts-philadelphia-pa-1394a915.html
https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/in-flames/2018/iron-city-birmingham-al-63976eef.html
- Nothing from their first 3 albums
- At least one track from each of the last 9 albums
- Trends towards newer material
| |
damn I'm too slow
| |
Can't wait for this to release so I can shit on it without listening to it once.
| |
edit: this comment was an accident.
| |
Whoracle & In Clarity count as ‘new’ In Flames right? Watered down, radio friendly etc.
| |
Whoracle? no. Come Clarity I would say is middle period: more slick and mainstream than the early albums, but not nearly the pop metal of their most recent albums.
| |
looooooooooooooooooooooooool
| |
first track is good for what it is
the second is one of the worst tracks i've heard this year
| |
"Whoracle & In Clarity count as ‘new’ In Flames right? Watered down, radio friendly etc."
I assume from this comment that you had never heard of this band and skimmed their wiki article so you could try to sound like you know what you're talking about
| |
Demon you’re cool but that’s one of the dumbest things I’ve ever seen lmao.
Also would rather get aids than listen to any of this.
| |
welcome to my (this is our) house the flo rida and in flames collab when
| |
OUR HOUSE
IN THE MIDDLE OF OUR STREET
OUR HOUSE
| |
I Am Above was surprisingly not awful.
This Is Our Atrocity, however, reveals that they are still maintaining their Sonic Syndicate collision course as expected.
| |
"In Clarity" lmao I love this guy
| |
this thread is a fucking christmas miracle
| |
band sucks now and so does Sweden
| |
why Sweden?
| |
Also this is so fucking early 2000's bro metal. Needs some Halo in backgorund with sik headshots.
What fucking fight is this Euro singing about? Why do bands always sing about FIGHTING and MARCHING.
Lame.
| |
Parkway Drive already made that video...
| |
Instant 1, instant classic.
| |
seriously I only really like TJR but yeah I was just messing calling Whoracle/Colony new Flames.
| |
LMAO
| |
Colony is the goat fam, I’m happy there are others who agree, makes me feel a little more grounded
| |
In a shocking turn of events, neither of these songs are very good.
| |
björns riffs and solos havent sounded fresh since 2008
| |
who the fuck cares
| |
the lyrics are utter garbage, i am above does hark back to a bit of a come clarity sound tho which is quite nice.
| |
If This Is Our House wasn't one of the worst songs ever I would wish for GM Paige to use it but it is awful. I Am Above is better than anything off of Battles but still is lame.
| |
"Swedish alternative rock group In Flames "
lmao
| |
waiting for a reissue of the genre classic, In Clarity by Come Flames
| |
Flames Come In Clarity
| |
I Am Above's "music video", the track listing, those singles...i am laughing so hard.
| |
first song is catchy enough albeit bland. Second track is straight up embarrassing.
| |
Yeah, This Is Our Travesty might actually be the worst thing they've ever done.
| |
This Is Our Tapestry
| |
Dear Anders,
Please find another line of work.
Sincerely,
My ears
| |
man that second song is just...jheeze
| |
(This Is Our) House isn't great but it's definitely not their worst song. Dead Eyes and Save Me are worse.
| |
Honestly don't get the hate for this band. Get over it
| |
nah
| |
it's all because they dislike Anders' voice. I guarantee if Battles had someone with a more preferable tone (in their opinion, i enjoy anders) on vocals and was released under another name....say, Cyhra, it wouldn't have a 1.9 average.
| |
My first time listening to IF in years.
I won't make that mistake twice.
| |
i wouldn't expect much higher, probably a 2.4-2.5
| |
Anders sucks but he's hardly the only problem the band has.
| |
right, it's just too simplistic musically for patrician ears now lol
| |
I never got the hate for Anders, but these songs are teen motivational video fodder
| |
Will you join the fight tho?
Will you fight with me?
Will we conquer all?
| |
drums and bass doing bare minimum, guitars a mix between shitty nu metal and uninspired melodic riffs, singer cant sing. but yeah, you need to be a sophisticated music connoisseur to know its shit.
| |
really puts their mid era career into perspective. wasn't even all that bad
| |
i have a new appreciation for A Sense of Purpose.
| |
Alias was the last IF song I recall thinking "I like this" when listening to.
| |
i still have to wonder what the fuck they were thinking with that Take This Life music video. i would have been embarrassed to be associated with that, especially for grown ass men in their 30s. the band was already huge, that was the best their money could buy? its still puzzling to me on so multiple levels.
also i still dont get whats going on with those teenagers running around and tackling each other, like what the fuck, its so stupid.
| |
breaking benjamin go heavy
| |
Well this sucks a whole ass.
| |
you don't need to be Dio to be a good singer btw lmao
| |
you are so dumb, agent.
| |
stay away from glassjaw, you will hate the vocals adolf
| |
nah, hes a good vocalist, once again youre dumb and you dont know shit.
| |
'Anders is a good singer' is probably the hottest take I've seen on this site
| |
he's certainly not awful, but apparently people have vastly different standards for metal singers vs punk singers. punk singers can get away with sucking while metal singers are endlessly scrutinized for not being Dio levels of godly.
| |
I mean, I love the Come Clarity chorus...
| |
I WANT YOU TO LEAD ME
TAKE ME SOMEWHEREEEEE
| |
@agent you just make yourself sound more ignorant with every comment you make, consider stopping for everyone's sake including your own.
| |
Have you heard Daryl on the first album? he was technically pretty shit but that ADDED to the album.
| |
I liked that shouty singing he used to do on Clayman
| |
m/ m/ m/
| |
Wait do you sometimes go by Jennifer? Asking for a friend.
| |
I seriously thought they could't get any worse. That I heard (This Is Our) House and now I believe they gonna a drop an album with a 1.5 average.
| |
honestly it could be the first In Flames album I rate below a 2.5, but you never know.
| |
"honestly it could be the first In Flames album I rate below a 2.5, but you never know"
I crossed that line a long time ago.
| |
I remember when Come Clarity came out and it was seen as a slight return to form for them. How funny
| |
"What fucking fight is this Euro singing about? Why do bands always sing about FIGHTING and MARCHING." haaaaaaaaaaaaaa
| |
"I remember when Come Clarity came out and it was seen as a slight return to form for them. How funny "
.... by whom?
| |
I never got the hate for Anders, but these songs are teen motivational video fodder [2]
so hard
key knows
| |
@Chaotic: understandable. Siren Charms has the lowest rating I gave an In Flames release, so if it at least can match that In Flames will be safe in my eyes.
| |
Come Flames - In Clarity
| |
“.... by whom?”
Many folks in the metal community. Not a return to their glory days, but a step in the right direction after STYE and RTR
| |
RTR to ASOP are all 3s to me. Come Clarity is probably the best very marginally though. ASOP seems to be the last time they really gave a shit at all.
| |
"Many folks in the metal community. Not a return to their glory days, but a step in the right direction after STYE and RTR"
really? i cant think of a single place that wasnt divided between younger fans liking it and older fans bashing it
maybe i looked in the wrong places
| |
yeah I remember ppl mercilessly shitting on it
granted, my frame of reference is like metal-archives so it's probably not the most neutral of sources
| |
metal elitist archives
| |
metal "meshuggah is nu metal so we aren't including them anymore" archives
| |
metal "when destruction covered exploited's fuck the usa the webmaster threw a bitch fit like the sad minge he is and removed them from the database" archives
| |
I guess I am just comparing to the reactions of people at metal shows and other metalheads I knew at the time, but just looking at their ratings tells you it's their best post-Clayman record. Hell, it's got a higher avg than Lunar Strain (blasphemy)
| |
blasphemy indeed
i wouldnt be surprised if many people who rated it havent heard or wouldnt get the old stuff though
| |
metal archives is a great source for information. the community is laughable though. i think the funniest thing about that site is how they deliberately keep a lot of metalcore/deathcore off of there.
| |
the community is in that weird place where you're not sure if you should laugh your ass off or genuinely pity their sad existance
i mean these are the pillocks that tried to argue mayhem and immortal are just shitty norsecore
| |
btbam not being on there is a funny one. I don't even like them but how in the world are they not metal lmao
| |
oh yeah forgot about that one as well
| |
Suicide Silence isnt on there either. yet Whitechapel and All Shall Perish are allowed.
| |
to be fair, didnt all shall perish have one or two decent albums?
| |
i like ASP and Whitechapel. i think Suicide Silence suck. im just pointing out the inconsistencies.
| |
shouldn't matter if they suck or not. I mean shit like doomthrone is on there
| |
well i kind of implied it with my shuggah comment, but yea it even says somewhere that officially nu metal (and possibly mxc/dxc) doenst belong on the site
| |
They seem to get really creative in gluing these terrible, boring af and most unfitting choruses to their songs.
| |
Lol metal archives is beyond parody
| |
The Price of Existence is the crowning jewel of the genre
| |
in a relative sense, yeah probably
| |
Price of Existence is one of the best, but there's better out there. it probably was the best for awhile, but its since been dethroned.
| |
Awaken the Dreamers is probably my favorite from ASP, Price is a close second though. m/ m/ m/
| |
The title track to that record is amazing but the rest of the album cant hold up to Price, IMO
| |
understandable, that t/t fucking rips
| |
Anyone know why Bjorn is still in the band? I don't believe he was pushing for their new sound.
| |
Has he implied that?
Either way, its all for the $$$ now.
| |
Wake up In Flames.
| |
Might've just been a rumor, but then again Daniel and Peter didn't give much notice before they left either. He seems very careful with his words in his interviews.
Yeah, it's almost certain he's just in it for the money.
| |
Damn, well that answers everything. Thanks man
| |
Hahahaha damn. Interesting little slip up.
| |
To add to an above comment: Come Clarity is was never going to appeal to the crowd that loved In Flames as the Gothenburg Metal pioneers, but it was a solid tier above RTR and STYE, and one of the best metal albums of that decade. It’s a solid 4.0 in my book. I probably enjoy it as much as Clayman.
But damn, what I would give for a return to The Jester Race, Whoracle, and Colony. But that’s not going to happen. All we can wish for is the same level of motivation that went into Come Clarity, which was an impressive album imo.
| |
I like rtr more than cc tbh
| |
Jesper is gone, even if they did go back to that sound theyd never be as good.
| |
"https://youtu.be/jSyUoOcI4Ps?t=3919"
well god damn
| |
lol
| |
ugh
| |
Wow, do they really not have any morals at all?
| |
Fuck (almost everyone), get money
| |
lol how is that immoral
| |
He deeply down wants to make quality music but releases turd stuff to make money? If that isn't immoral I don't know what is
| |
you don't know what is
| |
Exactly.
| |
it's just standard alt metal, nothing offensive. so meh
| |
our house is an atrocity, i can only hope at least half the album sounds like i am above
| |
It's one thing for Jester Race and Whoracle fans to dislike this. But I love their post-Clayman output and still think This is our House is awful.
| |
same. i think STYE and CC are fantastic albums and really like RtR, ASoP and SoaPF as well. but that song feels like someone is shitting inside my ears
| |
honestly, I'd rather listen to This Is Our House than The Truth, but not by much tbh
| |
it's the curse of the second single. "the end" and "i am above" were cool tracks, while "the truth" and "our house" are top 5 worst in flames
| |
WE ARE
WE ARE WE AAAAARE
| |
Just goes to show they're still capable of making listenable tunes but choose not to.
| |
I just realized that the footage used in the House video is not of them actually playing said abomination. I can understand the crowd reaction better now.
| |
Shitty as expected. But man that "video" is fucking terrible.
| |
"it's the curse of the second single. "the end" and "i am above" were cool tracks, while "the truth" and "our house" are top 5 worst in flames"
imo The Truth >>>>>>> Our House
| |
songs are awful
| |
They first release a rather heavy song followed by a rather boring one just as with their last album. Wonder what the thought behind that is.
Gonna give the album a fair chance but my expectations are as low as they can be.
| |
@bloc the guy in the video is a swedish actor, 20-30 something, not really famous or anything. his name is Martin Wallström.
| |
Ah ok. Because I was starting to think it kinda looked like Anders if he cut his hair and shaved or something...
| |
only role i know him from is the tv show mr robot
weird ass fuckin music vid
| |
"not really famous or anything"
he plays one of the main roles in one of the most popular and acclaimed shows on television in the States right now, so... he may not be an A-lister but he's not exactly a nobody.
| |
Confusing choice for a music video, what were they thinking.
| |
everything this band has done since like 2003 has been confusing.
| |
"Swedish alternative rock group"
Accurate
| |
It hurts when your denial’s exposed
| |
honest question, are they even good at selling out? like, is it paying off for them that they've gone this horrible commercial route?
| |
See Darius’ video in the thread. Apparently so, there must be a significant market that eats this shit up.
| |
Wrestling promotions, Motocross, MMA, Monster trucks, etc?
| |
BJORN BLINK TWICE IF ANDERS IS HOLDING YOU HOSTAGE
| |
nobody would make this garbage because they want to, of course theyre getting paid more.
| |
eh Anders might legitimately believe that this is good shit
| |
Plenty of their fans also think that. Just look at the crowds that their shows are gathering. J
| |
"BJORN BLINK TWICE IF ANDERS IS HOLDING YOU HOSTAGE"
x2
| |
Fuck In Flames and their new music (But I'll be back next album to post on the site about it, trashing it, even though I know what to expect, I still get disappointed every time like a retard)
| |
Fuck In Flames and their new music (But I'll be back next album to post on the site about it, trashing it, even though I know what to expect, I still get disappointed every time like a retard)
| |
I Am Above growing on me tbh
| |
Oh shit just saw this. Whoops. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Anyway, I Am Above is actually you know...okay.
| |
| |
| |
Im not disappointed anymore, its just a good laugh at this point.
| |
If their quality stagnated I wouldn’t be disappointed, but they somehow manage to get worse every time.
| |
i am above would be a decently fun song if there werent these lyrics
| |
Agent’s gonna 4 it.
| |
and there wouldnt be anything wrong with it
| |
"The year is 1984. I first discover Ride The Lightning in November of the year. It was snowing outside and it was very cold men. I put record on,, It start with medival style music, and then when in calm place? Thunder guitar take control! This is great start for this record men. Lars Ulrich is the drums for this record and at end of song, he is the lightning with bass pedal and snare madness! After this song the name of record is a song and plays well. For Whom The Bell Tolls is up and it deliver best of Metallica riff by Cliff Burton. He play guitar men? hhehehe this is bass! I can believe this. Then best Metallica song is playing,, soft music and guitars. Fade To Black is hitting me hard and it build up with epic solo and chill feeling of depressed. Trapped Under Ice brings energy back to the life here with great open riff by James Hetfield. Escape is starting up and Kirk Hammett is playing on the leads here men. This is song of good structure and deliver a good fade out ending. Here we go men! This moment we wait for! Creeping Death! This song is Metallica well known effort and it is personal favorite of my listens today. This song is about the times of Bible in Christian lore men. I believe this happen and is scary song. The end is no vocals and has great style for close the album up. The Call Of Ktulu is epic! Dave Mustaine has wrote this song when he was playing with the Metallica men,, if you did know. The last riff of song end this record and it is best way to ever end. I have never listen to better ending for any recording and I listen to many metal! This is all I say about Ride The Lightning. Thank for reading and apology for english is not good."
| |
liking that house song
| |
