I'm glad I saw on the "Evening w/Machine Head" tour earlier this year. I would have many regrets I had never gotten so them live.

Machine Head are one of my all-time favourite bands, but this is likely for the best.

In the video Robb said the bass player decided he’s not leaving the band this morning, Machine Head isn’t breaking up. Just Phil and Dave leaving the band. Sounds like Robb is just gonna be taking some time to re-evaluate the band and weigh his options. Maybe Machine Head will come back with a new lineup or maybe not but when he said “let’s make it a celebration” he was talking anoht Phil and Dave’s time with the band not the band ending.

I think this is one of the most disrespectful "band disbands" thread I've ever read. Usually it takes ten to fifteen years of bad albums for people on sputnik to dare say something like "to be honest, it was about time."

6 out of 9 Machine Head albums have an average above 3.5. Last album was a mistep but the band had been solid since 2003.

the way i understood it is that all the band members stay for the tour..and machine head breaks up after the tour...

Seems that Flynn just retracted his statement, Jared's decided to stay and it's basically going to be a new lineup.

I'll give credit to Flynn on his honesty, he's at least admitting that it's pretty much his fault.

Pretty sure Flynn just said that this is the end of this "era" of Machine Head, its a farewell for this incarnation, but he intends to carry on at a later time.

Too bad. I'm sure a lot of it went down to artistic direction. I have a hard time believing the other guys got into the politics as much as Rob. Saw them once a couple years ago and they're coming to my city again in a month or so. Not sure if I should go now though. Seems kinda depressing when you know they're just passing time till the end.

Never understood what's supposed to be so ridiculously good about "The Blackening", it's a good record but nothing too special in my eyes. I enjoyed "Unto the Locust" much more personally.

Anyways, not sure how I feel about this. They had some great stuff but looking at the last album it's probably for their own good.

The Blackening was off-the-charts amazing, mostly thanks to Phil.

About 75% of that album is crappy groove riffing and Mekong Delta's Lurking Fear rendered Machine Head's attempts entirely irrelevant anyway.

Blackening/Locust debate aside, the rest of their discography just didn't hold up.

Burn My Eyes, The More Things Change (divisive album, but I like it a whole lot) and The Blackening are all great for the respective sound they want to create.
The rest of their discography suffers either from staleness or at worst just plain suckage

Bloodstone is actually my favorite, but Blackening is a very close second

Empires was kind of bad but it had some amazing songs in the first half.

The best song on Empires was the bonus track Seasons Wither

I always felt like Bloodstone and Diamonds sounds like Slipknot, never liked that album.

lol, yeah honestly that's my problem with this. on one hand, good thing they didn't make another piece of shit. this way, it'll mostly be forgotten and they'll be remembered for the good they've done. on the other hand, why would you want to leave on the worst album of your career where you blatantly sought pop/mainstream appeal and left your roots behind? i'd just get right back in the studio, write the hardest ep of my career and then have a mini farewell tour with it and then be done. would be a nicer finish. , but either way, good band for a decent length of time.
