Progressive djent metallers Monuments have released another track off their forthcoming third album Phronesis, available October 5. This makes the third track released so far from the new album following "A.W.O.L." and "Leviathan".

When exactly did the term “progressive” become synonymous with “generic” and “derivative”?

I’m guessing since Dream Theater formed

After people started bitching about "djent" being considered a genre.
We have to refer to it as something.

Apparently you meant in general. I thought you were referring to just this type of music.

this one was just okay, my expectations for this album are getting lower with each passing song they release.

Yeah this song was pretty average for Monuments. Still got my hopes up for the rest of the album though because there were some meaty riffs on some of the studio cuts they uploaded on YT.

The lack of that really slappin bass has me more and more confused with each track they drop. This is barely a Monuments song.

I feel a strong 2/5 coming on....

Not their most explosive song but it still has very good melodies both vocally and instrumentally. They're continuing to stretch out their sound here which I appreciate.

Comparing this to tracks like Doxa.. boy. What a massive fall off a cliff.

So I feel like the instrumentation should be good, but the YouTube mixes have been bad and the vocals sound incredibly overprocessed. There have been some good riffs so far, making how bad the tracks are all the more frustrating.

One thing I've noticed is that the drums and rhythm in the choruses is outright pop 4/4 crap. No complexity, hence no groove.

What's strange is that Stygian Blue has been out for ages, but it sounds like something that easily could have been on Qatsi, so the jump from that to something like Leviathan in the same album is puzzling.

14 year old me would be slinging sauce to this. Now, however, I feel nothing.
