Grief has been market-tested and is heading to the Top 40.

This is decidedly bland
|
| |
hes a shit musician so no surprise there
|
| |
Eh, I really enjoyed Fort Minor. I recognize that that was years ago and for him to follow that sound would be unexpected/unrealistic, but this is just straightforward radio pop.
|
| |
Mike, you're boring me man
This music is boring me dude
|
| |
I just love that he thinks he's talented enough to carry an album.
|
| |
It's not that Mike isn't talented, it's just everything he's released from this new project has been so damn boring. Like, taking a canoe ride with your tax guy levels of boring
|
| |
hes talented but he has no taste
sort of like you snide!! (honestly tho youve always had talent but only recently have you stopped making really icky aesthetically displeasing gunk)
|
| |
@mort: aww thanks man, tbh I don't really get told I have talent too often (I can literally only remember two other times and those were both for my screams), that made my morning tbh
|
| |
"hes talented but he has no taste"
This is very correct
|
| |
[2] that's spot on. Guy could make something great - excellent if he applied his strengths the right way
|
| |
I really liked the 2nd song.
|
| |
the second song is awful lmao
|
| |
idk this stuff is still hardly keeping me in but i know mike has the potential to do great shit, it’s just whether or not he ever applies that into his music is the question. ALSO on another note for snide,,, mort is right snide you are def talented you just have some more questionable influences than others and that used to seep into yr music way too much but you’re definitely on an artistic incline so keep up the shit and keep widening yr influences man!! anyways yeah this album might be cool i think you guys are judging a bit too preemptively but it’s understandable i’m a bit questionable of this myself lol

I don't want to come off sounding insensitive but it seems to me like Mike Shinoda has always been edging for the limelight and center focus long before Chester passed. I'm sure he's still grieving and this may be a gift to the fans to help them cope but I also think it's partially a marketing ploy to get his own recognition. Other musicians have died and we rarely see their bandmates turn around and release new material this soon.

"I'm sure he's still grieving and this may be a gift to the fans to help them cope but I also think it's partially a marketing ploy to get his own recognition. Other musicians have died and we rarely see their bandmates turn around and release new material this soon."
Maybe he's doing it because he likes music and it makes him happy to create?
|
| |
^this is exactly like joy division/new order, but with shit music..
|
| |
Take away the cringecore lyrics and the second one isn't that bad, he's always had a pretty pleasing singing voice compared to his rapping. Problem is just how boring this all is, and wtf are these terrible DIY music vids? I just want him to make "second half of 'Blackout': the album" tbh.
|
| |
Can't wait to 1 this and then forget this ever happened.
"Other musicians have died and we rarely see their bandmates turn around and release new material this soon"
True.
|
| |
Same.
Maybe not 5, but 4 for sure.
I find the lyrics quite good and reflective of surviving a trauma.
And Mike has always been working on music, not surprising this is his way of coping with Chester being gone. That's why I also like the music videos - they are personal and touching.
The only thing I didn't like was him not releasing Post-traumatic EP for free as a gift for LP community, but this might have not been possible due to label and so on.
Would be a nice gesture though.

i actually couldnt believe the generic ocean lyrics in the second song, its like hes never written a song before
|
| |
Lol he's a shit musician? What? You may not like him but he's insanely talented producer and arranger. He is a good at crafting songs. Also, I really relate to the second song. Who cares how complex the lyrics are or whatever. It's honest that's all that matters.
|
| |
But ok. Kick him while he's down, eh? Why not.
|
| |
"its honest thats all that matters"
are you mentally disabled?
|
| |
Lol
|
| |
What Eons said. Can't believe people think Shinoda is not talented.
Also I believe it must have taken a lot of guts to reveal how he felt before the And Friends Memorial concert. Love the honesty. And I find the ocean lyrics extremely to the point. Trauma changes everything. Up is down, down is up (even if it sounds cliche).
@Mort, while craft is important, sometimes (emotional) honesty makes something otherwise imperfect really special. Check naive art.
Not gonna argue this is the case, as you have a different opinion on the matter.
Just stating that there is merit in argument that honest expression might be more important than pure skill.

lol

I thought "Over Again" was one of his better solo tracks. If he could just stick to rapping and actually IMPROVE on that aspect he really could carry an album. And perhaps go back to his Fort Minor roots where he collaborated with underground artists. Probably still wouldn't be great. But definitely listenable. The most singing he should be doing is melodic rapping, and even that shouldn't be done too often. Anyway much strength to the guy.

| |
mike shinoda when i was in high school: yes
mike shinoda rn: no
i cant believe how bad this is
|
| |
well i really liked the 3-track and i'm actually kinda excited for this
|
| |
ya he should probably just ignore what he's going through and cater to some avant garde type audience even tho he's never ever made that type of music
