Master Boot Record VirtuaVerse OST

2017-12-12 by BloodMusic | 14 Comments
Cult Finnish label Blood Music has announced its entrance into the realm of video games, acting as publisher and distributor for the in-development, cyberpunk adventure game VirtuaVerse, featuring an original soundtrack by Master Boot Record.

Developed by Theta Division Games – VirtuaVerse is a pixel-based, point-and-click adventure, narrating tales of technomancers and virtual reality debauchery in our not-so-distant future.

VirtuaVerse has been in development for just over a year and boasts the following team:

* Graphics by Valenberg (Perturbator "Sentient” music video / GosT “Arise” music video).
* Story and soundtrack by the chiptune / cyber-metal artist – Master Boot Record.
* Programming by the developer of the hacked Nintendo Power Glove (Power Glove Ultra) – Alessio Cosenza.

For fans of classic LucasArts and Sierra Games, such as Monkey Island Adventures, King's Quest, etc.

well when they put out a new album like every couple months or w/e and they're all just metal 8-bit, kinda hard to get excited for another album of theirs.

Bloodmusic is always promoting these "bands" on Sput, and to be honest this sound is starting to get pretty homogeneous and stale at this point (obviously IMO), but to be fair, there was one record I checked out that I was pleasantly surprised with and it's The Rigel Axiom by Dynatron.

If you're not into this synthwave, retro, 8 bit sound it might not change your mind, but I personally never really dug too much outside of this record so it might be worth a shot.

The last Perturbator EP really caught me off guard. I've always enjoyed the retro synth stuff but was never a super fan or anything and that EP really surprised me in a good way.

Also, I can't help but wonder why you felt the need to put the word bands in quotation marks?

More on topic, point and click games have never really been my type of game but I'm curious about checking the artist though

I was actually trying to post about the game, since it's quite rare for a label to publish a legit video game. But someone changed the title to be about the soundtrack. OK for me though. And although you may hate it - these artists are relevant and have quite a following, even on here. Such as Perturbator, whose latest record came out this year and I posted about.

Regardless - MBR is not in the synthwave scene, and I only released two records even remotely related to that scene this year. Also posted about Chaos Moon on here, which is black metal. And Carbon Based Lifeforms, which is ambient (and beloved on here). So, is two per year too many?

Definitely not man, I was more just rambling about how I believe this style has become a bit over saturated. Perturbator is huge and has been huge for a long time and that's awesome you have them on your label. If you look at the top 10 Bandcamp albums at any point you'll generally see something from your label on there (which I know you're aware of). I'm not dissing your label, there's some awesome stuff on there, I'm just not personally into this style of retro synthwave but like I mentioned I did get a lot of enjoyment out of that Dynatron album.

MBR posted a tour prep video the other day with him on guitar and another dude on drums. Sounds just like the record so I guess it would qualify as a band.
