Oh boy.

I did a spit take. Is WoD even comparable to anything on this list? Not necessarily in quality but in sound?

Oh shit are they usually this early?

Are there no more metal album awards?
| |
Kinda surprised Sci-Fi didn't get a nom for Best Alternative, but voting probably happened after the whole fiasco
| |
lol
| |
haha
| |
there's roughly 12000 members who vote for the grammys. they aren't all "old white conservative suits" lol.
| |
Worthless award show
| |
"there's roughly 12000 members who vote for the grammys. they aren't all "old white conservative suits" lol. "
And somehow they still only have surface level knowledge of arguably the most diverse genre of music. These noms are better than last years but I can think of a dozen (probably a lot more tbh) metal bands that all put out better records.
| |
wow be77er 7han usual. good job, grammys

911 yes? we have a serious burn victim here, come quick

Even if these are worthless, Meshuggah getting a nod makes me happy.
| |
Like I said, I don't log on every time I hear a new album. Or buy one, for that matter.

ok

how is the fact that you don't rate music here on a frequent basis an argument against the observation that your ratings are chock-full of surface-tier metal? as if more ratings would upend your current basic ass ratings?

"how is the fact that you don't rate music here on a frequent basis an argument against the observation that your ratings are chock-full of surface-tier metal? as if more ratings would upend your current basic ass ratings"
Because sometimes I get bored and rate an entire Bands discog, just because that makes up a large amount of my ratings doesn't mean I spend the majority of my time listening to those bands. Do you want my entire life story while we're at it?
| |
there is nothing wrong with his ratings...
| |
yes @ the life story offer
| |
when did you first get big into music
| |
Really? I've been waiting for this moment
| |
I'm 20, and I consider that point being when I first heard Alice In Chains as they're my favorite band, and that was at the beginning of high school. From there I got more into hardcore but I've been trying to listen to a new album every day for the last couple of years. Really awesome way to get into more music imo.
| |
I did that in high school, 2-3 new albums a day minimum
good times
| |
For real. Usually just get on metallum and start listening to what they have. Discovered some of my favorite bands through that website
| |
fascinating. do your colleagues gawk in amazement at your lofty musical taste?
| |
I wish. Hbu
| |
"I know that's not the case, I was being facetious." i really wish you didn't tell me that because now ~my sides~ ; [ oww

it's official, all grammy talk is boring.
this thread is now dedicated to entertaining and ripping Wildcardbitchesss' music tastes

"Album Of The Year
“Awaken, My Love!” — Childish Gambino
4:44 — Jay-Z
DAMN. — Kendrick Lamar
Melodrama — Lorde
24K Magic — Bruno Mars"
Two 5s, a 4, and two other albums that I haven't checked but pretty sure I would like... good job grammys
| |
been saying, sput list is gonna look exactly the same. idk why ppl are roasting the grammys lol
| |
'arguably the most diverse genre of music'
you can think this all you want but you'd be demonstrably wrong
| |
"it's official, all grammy talk is boring.

I've never had an entire thread to myself before...
| |
And Sin educate me because ya I really do think that.
| |
don't mess with sinternet
hes heard chill dubstep beats to study to compilation #49
| |
i mean if we're classifying 'metal' as a genre, then it's only fair to just say electronic music as a whole, in which case that is clearly more diverse
| |
pffft dubstep i only listen to 2-step future garage and minimal gabber techno get with it plebs lmao
| |
I can get with that, just don't dig electronic very much. Can metal be second most diverse?
| |
more diverse picks, amazing
| |
ii mean, is metal more diverse than rock? i dont think so
| |
Rock has different meanings to different people I think though, fine metal is third, but I'm not going any lower
| |
Hip hop is prob more diverse than metal at this point
| |
Metal is pretty diverse yeah
| |
lol
| |
yeah right
| |
Agreed
Yeah
| |
Sad that 3 out of 5 nominees for album of the year were distributed/owned by Universal. Stuck in their old ways
| |
A shitshow
| |
field recordings is the most diverse genre
*drops mic*
*records mic drop from afar*
| |
best field recordings of 2017?
| |
jas -just recorded it bish.
| |
mayhem i'm surprised you didn't call me out on the distinction that field recordings shouldn't be used to describe sounds recorded inside a studio w/ musical equipment, missed opportunity swing and a miss
| |
fuck hold up lemme flick it a 3.0
| |
Fuck me, the Grammys has a terrible website, it's so invasive and it ought to get to the point
| |
It appalls me that now just recently people have been desensitized with these crappy award shows.
| |
09.28.15 My top 5 BTBAM songs of all time

just take ur L[2]
| |
Why is Metallica nominated when Hardwired...To Self Destruct came out last year?
| |
03.05.17 Buffy to be taken off Netflix
| |
wut? August Burns Red again? that's weird. I thought the only reason they were there last year was because 'Identity' was mainstream in a way. Their latest album is so underground sounding, I'm surprised it was noticed by the mainstream
| |
know they don't mean shit but congrats for my boy Tyler for the Flower Boy nom
| |
Whats the diff between record and album of the yr?
| |
And woo yeah, go portugal the man!! Feel it still
| |
The Grammy nominations make the Rolling Stone top 50 list look like NOW That's What I Call Music
and that's fucking saying something.
| |
"It appalls me that now just recently people have been desensitized with these crappy award shows."
the grammys have been going on for decades, what are u talking about
u kids think cuz u listen to opeth and btbam now ur above all of this lol
| |
Lmao key
| |
wow, another thread where Keyblade argues we should all listen to shit
shocker
| |
I listen to metal so my IQ is above 200 this is a fact
| |
"wow, another thread where Keyblade argues we should all listen to shit"
what
| |
fuck this elite pampering / ego validating / narcissist harboring shitfest
| |
fuck the grammys man they didnt even nominate the new brand new album science dicktion
| |
wheres trivium this is a travesty
| |
If Kevin Spacey produced it we'd be in for a goldmine
| |
"78. Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance
• Divine Theatre - Sacred Motets By Giaches De Wert
Stile Antico"
eyyyyyyyyyy at least they got something right
| |
bach?
| |
there's some bach there but nothing I've heard, shame on me
| |
Bruno Mars ugh.
| |
better him than fuckin grohl
| |
debatable
| |
The most attention I've ever paid Grohl was when he broke his leg and I would start singing learning to walk again every time I saw pics of him limping about.
| |
lol
| |
Ignorant
| |
Eh I don't love Foo Fighters or anything but I'd give him more credit. Anyone that can be in not one but two of the most successful rock bands ever has to be a pretty decent musician.
| |
Don’t talk shit about futures
| |
hes gotten more than enough credit in his career tbh
| |
Yeah six that's definitely true.
| |
“Best Country Solo Performance:
- Body Like a Back Road by Sam Hunt”
Oh FUCK this
| |
"wut? August Burns Red again? that's weird. I thought the only reason they were there last year was because 'Identity' was mainstream in a way. Their latest album is so underground sounding, I'm surprised it was noticed by the mainstream"
You're kidding me right? How in the hell is new ABR underground when it's the exact same thing they've released every album. Damn this had me laughing
| |
@FearThyEvil
I was talking about the single track 'Identity'
It is aesthetically pleasing to people's ears who don't normally listen to metalcore. But yes, ABR does make similar albums. But, everything on Phantom Album is traditional metalcore stuff, stuff that most mainstream people would overlook opposed to being nominated for a grammy.
| |
DAMN. will win aoty because of the backlash they got when tpab didn't win
| |
Jay-Z LOL
| |
lol. ABR isn't underground, metalcore is mainstream and most importantly ABR sucks.
| |
they aren't all "old white conservative suits"
No otherwise thered be a whole lot of Christian rock and kid rock nominated
| |
lol grammys, do they even protest the hero???
| |
basically a derpin convention yeah
| |
fuck the grammys, pls ignore
| |
Imagining one of the Best Metal Performances nominees actually go up to the stage to accept their award kinda makes me laugh dunno why. For that reason, I hope Body Count takes the win. TALK SHIT, GET SHOT.
| |
NO
LIVES
MATTER
| |
I knew you'd come
| |
yeh. my sputnik life just seems to revolve around Limp biz and Body Count these days
| |
Winning a Grammy is hardly an honor anymore.
| |
I think a lot of metal bands would be embarrassed to win one.
| |
Right. Didn't Dystopia win last year? It's an average good album at best.
| |
Dystopia was watered down thrash. no wonder it won
| |
The only thing that could get me to care was if they got Meshuggah to perform and we were all blessed with seeing the Grammy crowd's reaction to Bleed
| |
Unfortunately the heaviest any mainstream show is going to go will be Metallica with lady Gaga while cutting off James' mic.
| |
But isn't all the metal shit done at the pre-show or whatever
| |
Yeah it's like the red headed step child. They don't even bother to include it in the regular program.
| |
Didn't Ghost walk on stage in full costumes to accept an award a few years back? Or was that another award show?
| |
That was probably at Revolver Music Awards or some shit
| |
yeah no
| |
and the Best Metal Album award goes toooo.....................METALLICA - MASTER OF POPPIES !!!
| |
*house band plays Symphony of Destruction*
| |
I remember how last year the award went to Megadeth and they were playing a Metallica song as they walked up to the stage
| |
It will be better this time, They'll play undertaker's theme
| |
Way late here but arguing Sputnik cred over how long you’ve been a member, how many comments you’ve made, and the albums you’ve rated, is absolutely Fucking laughable and quite possibly the dumbest form of neck beard superiority ever
| |
its a good thing that only happened in ur head then
| |
Lmaooo
| |
Remember: For the most part, the Grammys give awards to the most popular and widely-noticed songs and albums. Not necessarily the highest-rated.
That being said, all of their AOTY picks are 4/5s for me!
| |
is it fair to rank by popularity or should it be quality? because the list is like super shit as i see it
| |
popularity and quality arent mutually exclusive
also, of course popularity will be the main criteria when the method for deciding the best albums is having 12,000 people vote on it
| |
Should be 1,337,000 people voting
| |
ABR rules. I hope they win it this year.
| |
nope. they are generic ass shit. christian radio core needs to die.
| |
"'arguably the most diverse genre of music'
you can think this all you want, cause you're absolutely correct"
fix'd
| |
I'm still in shock that Code Orange got nominated lol. Good for them
| |
actually i never paid too much attention to grammys but it seems to be even worse than oscars in terms of nominees quality (despatico, lol)
| |
How does Despacito, the most popular song in all of the United States (the only country that matters in this show) by an incredibly long shot this year, not deserve any awards? I don't think calling it a bad song is fair if hundreds of millions of people worldwide love it so much.
| |
lol
the general populace is a good case for genocide, that's how
| |
LOL the grammys
| |
more like the grannys
| |
how did jay-z get more nominations than kendrick lamar. like, if you're gonna acknowledge kendrick's existence, then you can recognize he's better
| |
"the general populace is a good case for genocide, that's how" [i cant insert a fucking heart, don't know why]
| |
"actually i never paid too much attention to grammys but it seems to be even worse than oscars"
Grammys are consistently the worst
| |
Who the fuck listens to Jay-Z anymore?
| |
His wife
| |
I bet she doesnt even listen to his music
| |
His wife's son does
| |
the funny thing is most of y'all are gonna vote for the exact same albums on here in a couple weeks time with some shitty prog metal sprinkled in and brand new the cherry on top of the list 😂
| |
123
| |
Dibs on the cherry
| |
Lol what a joke
| |
Hey hey hey... I'd be voting in shitty albums I'm sure, but I guarantee they wouldn't be metal.
On a more real note, though, I felt like 2017 has been sort of disappointing musically aside from a couple of really solid releases. Some swings and misses for sure.
| |
"Grammys are consistently the worst" [3]
| |
"Grammys are consistently the worst" [4]
Also, looks like Body Count is winning a grammy this year.
| |
Between Body Count and Meshuggah for the Metal Performance Grammy IMO. Probably gonna be Body Count, which might also help raise it's profile a bit as Ice T will be the one going up to collect the award so will attract the press to it.
| |
At least LP didn't get a pity-nom
| |
"Probably gonna be Body Count, which might also help raise it's profile a bit as Ice T will be the one going up to collect the award so will attract the press to it."
Hopefully he takes up extra time with his acceptance speech talking shit about everyone
