Arcade Fire finished recording

2017-01-11 by Sowing STAFF | 55 Comments
According to Arcade Fire's drummer Jeremy Gara, the band has completed its fifth LP and plans to release the album as early as spring of 2017. He also suggested that they could be supporting the album with two years' worth of touring, or as he put it: "From my perspective, it looks like Arcade Fire starts in April [of 2017] and finish around April 2019.”

Even with the prospect of Arcade Fire's fifth record coming very soon, Gara was intent on pointing out that the band is not going to rush anything, stating in a recent interview that "The album should come out this year. At this stage we are still mixing and trying to decide which songs will end up on the record, because we’ve recorded more than we need. But we’re almost finished. I don’t know when it’ll come out, I hope soon. I know we’re a popular band, but we always stick to the same rule; we record until we feel that the music is ready.”

I am praying that this is good. Reflektor was a bit of a let down but Funeral, Neon Bible, and The Suburbs still stands as one of the best runs in indie.

2017 is already shaping up to be just as amazing as 2016 was.

For me Reflektor is their second best album. I dug that 80s vibe they channeled so hard. Funeral is #1 obv.

And yeah 2017 has some real fuckin hype albums in-queue

Sowing, to my ears Reflektor had a ~45 minute album near the level of the first three in it but it got buried across the two discs. I loved it when it was released (it was one of the first I anticipated the release of an album by an artist I considered one of my favorites) but it has grown off in the years since.

I don't listen to anything consistently anymore because I'm always looking for the next thing. In a way it sucks, but at the same time that doesn't diminish the works in any way. Every time I revisit Reflektor or any other album I scored a 4.5+ it typically feels just a special to me as the first time, so at least there's that I guess.

The Reflektor t/t is amazing.

Drop Flashbulb Eyes, Normal Person, You Already Know, Porno, and Supersymmetry and it would've been a truly amazing album.

For me the albums go 5, 4.5, 4.5, 3.5 (though Suburbs is better than Bible) so this could really fall anywhere. This doesn't really count but Will Butler's 2015 album was lame, doesn't give me high hopes even though Win is the songwriter in AF.

Hoping for a return to form. In related news, are they ever gonna put out a legitimate release of their score for Her? Definitely had far more staying power than Reflektor.

Yeah can't go wrong with the first three. There's a fantastic 45-60 minute album somewhere in the 3 discs of Reflektor (deluxe edition), so I have pretty high hopes for this.

Also I'm pretty sure the Her soundtrack they did, which is amazing, was released officially. Maybe it's just not readily available on Spotify and everywhere else like the rest of their albums, but it was released somehow I know.

I think I read somewhere they sent out Oscar-promo discs, which is awesome and well-deserved, but I'm also pretty sure they haven't had any sort of commercial release, which almost makes it more aggravating.
