2 two part tracks eh? Smells like a concept album to me. Track 8 better be a Cream cover.
| |
This is going to be amazing. I'm hoping for jazzy drumming in the vein of Heritage and some mystical sounding guitar passages given these track names.
| |
" Track 8 better be a Cream cover."
better *not be
| |
i'm just hoping it isn't more rush fellatio
| |
That album art is AWESOME.
Track list definitely screams 70's tho.
| |
but yeah unfortunately according to the tracklisting alone this seems like some neo-prog-lite bullshit
| |
lol not sure what to think about that album art
| |
They released a second teaser if you guys haven't heard.
http://www.blabbermouth.net/news/opeth-second-sorceress-album-teaser/
| |
Gorgeous artwork
| |
where are the riffs
| |
will prob buy it day 1 jam it once then throw it in the pile just like the last record
| |
and here. we. go.
| |
Idk that second teaser sounded kinda Damnation-y
| |
Liking the song titles. Loving the freakin crap out of the cover. Kinda reminds me of the style of heritage.
HYYYYYYYYPE
| |
@FullOfSounds I'd take that over the last two to be honest
@Flug serious hype for this
| |
I'm not ashamed of my peacock fetish, but this will legitimize it in the metal crowd.
| |
Damn that album art is awesome. Hopefully this is their best since Watershed.
| |
not sure about this, worried its gonna be another PC. what happened to the cheesy metal songtitles like Leper Affinity and Hex Omega
the fuck is Wilde Flower and Will O the Wisp...sounds like some The Flower Kings ish
| |
Good lord, is it 12 albums already? I suddenly feel spoiled.
| |
this got a bonus track called Dream Theater
| |
The artwork is quite cool! As far as the music goes, l'll at least give a listen to whatever they put out, good or bad. I do have high hopes for this one though.
| |
Album art is pretty fantastic.
| |
Neat cover art. It's gonna prog rock hard.
| |
Great album art. Pity that the music will be mediocre if they keep doing recycled prog rock from the 70's.
| |
I hear fantano speaking
| |
Cool album art, excited for this record. Hopefully the album will be less prog-rock and more metal this time.
| |
^ you're gonna be disappointed in that case buddy
| |
Album art is more than I could hope for. Tracklist has some awsome titles. Liking the Hendrix tribute on the last track (the ''slight return'' part)
| |
Artwork is sweet. Not too sure about the tracklist, specifically the Cream and Hendrix references, which don't bode too well.
"Idk that second teaser sounded kinda Damnation-y"
Oh god please not another Damnation.
| |
Artwork is nice.
| |
@JT what's the Cream reference?
| |
Strange Brew
and Seventh Sojourn is a Moody Blues album
| |
you mean ''Strange Times''
| |
This is going to be lame as fuck. Haha sorceress reallY? This is the stuff neckbeards are made of
| |
Its just an album title chill out. The artwork is amazing IMO. Still skeptical about the album though...
| |
Yeah Strange Brew is the Cream reference (hopefully not a cover).
"Seventh Sojourn is a Moody Blues album"
Missed that one.
Chrysalis could be another old school prog/rock reference as well if you link it to the famous record label Chrysalis but maybe I'm just looking for them now and overthinking it.
| |
Here's to hoping this is good.
| |
based on how quickly this is getting put out, I can see it being more of the same with probably some more odd shit going on. will still listen but not expecting an sort of a masterpiece
| |
these guys used to be stuck in the 90's, now they're stuck in the 70's. maybe it's time to finally create something new for a change
| |
i enjoy everything mikael does.
| |
"these guys used to be stuck in the 90's, now they're stuck in the 70's. maybe it's time to finally create something new for a change"
They need to get stuck in the 80s and make a synthpop album
| |
i'd be down with that
| |
i like the album cover. not sure if id like this, i still havent tried out their last couple records
| |
'make a synthpop album'
i'd be down with that [2]
| |
game bro it isnt even out yet
| |
bitch still plays oblivion
| |
Teasers for this album can piss off, 20 seconds long give me a break.
| |
"game bro it isnt even out yet"
?
when did i say it was?
| |
Mike said in the press release that the album has a lot of heavy and calm to it... which I'm hoping means a notable amount of actual metal riffs. Obviously no growling, but some Harlequin Forest-esque tracks would be wonderful.
| |
3 or 4 references to the 60s/70's in the tracklist and that artwork is awesome. I'm so stoked for this!
| |
"They need to get stuck in the 80s"
Well they did venture into glam rock, didn't they?

| |
Artwork rules, actually looks like a death metal cover tbh so that's interesting. Can't wait to hear a single.
| |
it's grown increasingly hard to care about this band, but hopefully this is better than their last 2
| |
Agreed Spirit.
| |
[3]
| |
Cover art is sweet
| |
Yeah it's cool.
Single should be coming soon hopefully.
| |
I didn't like PC at all (excellent solos tho, fredrik is amazing player) but I liked Heritage a ton. I hope this is a bit more weird and hazy like heritage
| |
While their death metal stuff is great, my favorite songs by Opeth have always been the ones that are either mostly or completely clean vocals, so I've been loving the direction they're going in. Sure, i'd be down for them to do something along the lines of their earlier stuff but without the growls, but i'm totally okay with what we're getting too. Bring on the new album.
| |
Just because he specifically mentioned dynamics in the statement, I was thinking that having an album similar to songs like White Cluster, Harlequin Forest, Haxprocess or I Feel The Dark, Face of Melinda, Beneath The Mire, and Hessian Peal without dm vocals would be amazing.
| |
Better than the tracklist for Tool's new album
| |
Their last two really missed that much needed edge. Hopefully the blood dripping from the maw of the peacock onto the pile of corpses is a sign that there's gonna be some heaviness at hand. I'm fine with the clean vocals but they need to riff again.
| |
Album cover is awesome. Could easily wind up being the best thing about this album ;)
| |
Looking forward to it
| |
Yeay!! More '70s prog rock worship and tribute music!!! I can't wait!!! ...band is dead to me...
| |
What talobs said [2]
This thread has much less activity than I expected it would. Is the honeymoon over for Sputnik?
| |
The growls aren't coming back. Watch some footage of them recently, his growls are shot to hell (quit smoking m8) and I'm not fussed. We have a ton of older material with them, so long as the songwriting and songs are good I'm on it.
But I much prefer the weird heritage stuff
| |
Honestly do not care if there are growls are not. I seem to be in the minority who hated Heritage but enjoyed Pale Communion...
Would love some metal riffs to return, I do miss that side of Opeth in their newer releases.
| |
"This thread has much less activity than I expected it would. Is the honeymoon over for Sputnik?"
honeymoon? more like a decade long marriage lol
nah seriously, PC (and Heritage for a lot of ppl) really put a damper on Opeth for a lot of ppl. most of what made them uniuque and why everybody loved them is gone in favour of 70's worship which was admittedly done very well on Heritage but still
| |
The few tidbits I've heard from this honestly sound really damn heavy.
| |
Are there other tidbits aside from these little snippits which show basically nothing?
| |
