2 two part tracks eh? Smells like a concept album to me. Track 8 better be a Cream cover.

This is going to be amazing. I'm hoping for jazzy drumming in the vein of Heritage and some mystical sounding guitar passages given these track names.

Yeah Strange Brew is the Cream reference (hopefully not a cover).

"Seventh Sojourn is a Moody Blues album"

Missed that one.

Chrysalis could be another old school prog/rock reference as well if you link it to the famous record label Chrysalis but maybe I'm just looking for them now and overthinking it.

They need to get stuck in the 80s and make a synthpop album

Mike said in the press release that the album has a lot of heavy and calm to it... which I'm hoping means a notable amount of actual metal riffs. Obviously no growling, but some Harlequin Forest-esque tracks would be wonderful.

While their death metal stuff is great, my favorite songs by Opeth have always been the ones that are either mostly or completely clean vocals, so I've been loving the direction they're going in. Sure, i'd be down for them to do something along the lines of their earlier stuff but without the growls, but i'm totally okay with what we're getting too. Bring on the new album.

Just because he specifically mentioned dynamics in the statement, I was thinking that having an album similar to songs like White Cluster, Harlequin Forest, Haxprocess or I Feel The Dark, Face of Melinda, Beneath The Mire, and Hessian Peal without dm vocals would be amazing.

Their last two really missed that much needed edge. Hopefully the blood dripping from the maw of the peacock onto the pile of corpses is a sign that there's gonna be some heaviness at hand. I'm fine with the clean vocals but they need to riff again.

The growls aren't coming back. Watch some footage of them recently, his growls are shot to hell (quit smoking m8) and I'm not fussed. We have a ton of older material with them, so long as the songwriting and songs are good I'm on it.
But I much prefer the weird heritage stuff

Honestly do not care if there are growls are not. I seem to be in the minority who hated Heritage but enjoyed Pale Communion...

Would love some metal riffs to return, I do miss that side of Opeth in their newer releases.

"This thread has much less activity than I expected it would. Is the honeymoon over for Sputnik?"

honeymoon? more like a decade long marriage lol

nah seriously, PC (and Heritage for a lot of ppl) really put a damper on Opeth for a lot of ppl. most of what made them uniuque and why everybody loved them is gone in favour of 70's worship which was admittedly done very well on Heritage but still
