I think people are looking too deeply into this one. It seems like they toyed with the idea and decided to change it based on the interactions they had and what other people (specifically the Vietnamese) thought of it. Haven't seen anything about them being pressured into it or anything, I think this is an appropriate move if the name didn't mean much to them and they were open to criticisms and whatnot.
