New Sonic Youth CD For June 2006-03-27 by pulseczar | 7 Comments | Amongst the legendary alt rocking bands returning this year (Flaming Lips, Radiohead, Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Mudhoney, and so on) also comes Sonic Youth's 20th studio album. Rather Ripped will be released June 13, 2006, the follow-up to 2004's Sonic Nurse.
Oh goodie the tracklist!
"Reena"
"Incinerate"
"Do You Believe in Rapture?"
"Sleepin' Around"
"What a Waste"
"Jams Run Free"
"Rats"
"Turquoise Boy"
"Lights Out"
"The Neutral"
"Pink Steam"
"Or"
The album will reportedly be more focused and less jam-oriented than predecessors Murray Street, and Sonic Nurse. It will be the first album since 1998 without Jim O'Rourke, who collaborated with the band, and was in the band from 2000-2005. The band will be playing several dates with fellow former early 90s hipsters Pearl Jam, and is hoping to play with Flaming Lips.
In other Sonic Youth news, the white noise/beatbox hybrid double album The Whitey Album (released under the name Ciccone Youth in 1989) was rereleased March 14. Their debut EP, Sonic Youth, which is now regarded as their first album by the band, was also rereleased; remastered and live tracks added.

I can't wait for this. I'm a bit sad to hear that they've moved away from the jam-style noodlings though, I enjoyed them
| | | If I can't go to see Lollapalooza then SY and the Flips would be a great substitute.
