This is odd, as much as I love Tompkins, I thought Ashe was a really great fit for the band, really enjoyed his vox on Altered State. Would be interesting to see where Ashe goes from here.

I'm not really surprised overall at his return, I always thought he'd come back if Ashe left. TesseracT wouldn't want to run the risk of finding yet another new vocalist for and wouldn't go instrumental so Dan is the only choice. Their 3rd album should be interesting to say the least.

WTF! I remember lamenting hard when Tompkins left. When I heard how amazing Ashe was on Altered State, I could have cared less about Tompkins. Now I'm bummed out again because I feel like Ashe was the better of the two.

I know most of their fans adore Tompkins but i vastly preferred Ashe. He has a fantastic voice and did an amazing job on Altered State.

Ashe is cool and a great vocalist, but Dan pretty much made One as fucking good as it was and to me makes Tesseract

they need to get some new material out ASAP. This had better be a permanent thing, band had had the worst luck with vocalists.

I'm coming out of hibernation to comment on this. This is a terrible move. One is a boring, slightly passable metal album. It's got some good tracks on it, but most of them are instantly forgettable Meshuggah wannabe tracks. Altared State is the exact opposite - it's phenomenal, riveting, entertaining, and actually progresses the genre forward. This is ENTIRELY due to Ashe and the vocal production on the album. As good as Dan is as a vocalist, Tesseract just sound silly with his style of harsh vocals. And Ashe by FAR has the better clean vocal sound.

I'm bummed because Tesseract were on their way to doing something really important with the trajectory they took on Altared State. I sure hope they don't fall back into the crap they did on One.

I doubt that will happen considering the track Sky Harbour just released. Seems like Dan is actually headed more into the direction TesseracT took on Altered State.

I can't believe all you guys like ashe that much . His vocals and lyric content was all over the place at points in altered state you couldn't even make out what he was saying . Dan is way better live, ashe was way boring live. He stayed in the same place the whole time. Go Dan waiting for skyharbor first.

I think Ashe's vocals fit the music better than Dan's did on One. I agree with you on the live assessment. Ashe's far outperformed Dan in the studio though(IMO).

Damn man! I thought Altered State was a HUGE step forward, mostly because of Ashe's voice. Got to seem them live a few months ago so I feel blessed.

One was fucking sweet. Altered State was hit or miss.
Vocally I feel Ashe was on point but didn't quite fit in just yet with the music.
I'm hoping they can move forward with Dan and KEEP a vocalist for more than one album.
I always preferred Dan live. Saw Ashe at Soundwave this year and it was awkward.

Altered State seemed like a dud halfway through the first listen. I had set myself up to get another hard hitting One-clone. But when I changed my way of looking at it and gave it a fair listen, something clicked and I fell in love with it. Dan is amazing so I'm glad he's back, I just think that they could have done more amazing things with Ashe.

They'll start having threesomes to rev up their music-life soon enough here. I swear, they're as indecisive as an 8th grade girl when it comes to the vocalists.
