Necrophagist's New Drummer

2007-04-09 by Tyler EMERITUS | 16 Comments
Just months after the annoucement that Hannes Grossman has relieved his drumming duties due to rigorous touring, Technical Death Metal giants Necrophagist have announced that their new drummer is none other than Marco Minnemann.

Wait...who?

For those who don't keep up on the world of drumming, Marco Minnemann is an award winning German drummer with a background in Jazz and Funk, making him an interesting addition to the band, which after two albums has stuck to playing 100% Death Metal. Marco Minnemann is known for his "extreme interdependence", among other things that elude me completely.

Marco is set to be a 'permanent' replacement and will appear on upcoming tours, as well as the band's junior album, which is slated for a 2008 release.

Awesome. The album better be great too because it's taking quite some time to make. Maybe there will be a bit more experimentation this time around.

Well, the main reason it's taking so long is because they tour non-stop and have a revolving door line-up. Still, this guy is leagues better than Hannes, then again, that's not saying much, since Hannes could barely pull off the already simplistic drumming the band employs.

Finally a good drummer in a metal band. He is one of those super euro drummers that can play anything.

This is absolutely awesome. A Necrophagist album that encompasses new forms of experimentation would be insanely good.

Necrophagist has simple drumming? I've always heard people say how hard Necrophagist drum parts are. I'm no drummer myself, but it doesn't sound like stuff that anyone could play.

This I didnt expect, Marco is an extremely technical player and totally un-Necrophagist, shud be weird.

People are always saying "oh, (enter name here) could never be in a metal band, he is totally the opposite"...this should be interesting.

Pretty much. It's just really fast, that's it. And just because that's hard to play doesn't mean it isn't simplistic. Hannes couldn't play it either, from the videos I've seen.

This guy literally can play anything, so he'll do fine.

My friend played me some of their stuff in guitar class last year. It pretty much blew my mind.

I've seen videos of Marco, and he blows Hannes out of the water. The guy is a virtuoso, and he + Mohammed can only equal pure bliss. I can't wait.
