Really enjoying this, their best since six degrees, I agree. Illumination theory (particularly the orchestral part) is amazing! Definitely a grower album though

"It's exactly the same as the last 4 albums" - It really isn't though, that's one of it's appeals to me...

Damn. Dat string section in Illumination Theory gives the feels.

Great album. Deffo better than ADTOE. Still doesn't touch 6DOIT kind of quality but they're slowing gettin better instead of worse with each album.

Very disappointed. No passion on this album. Slaves of the record industry. It's all the same as the two last albums.. No change, no new thinking..

First song I've listened to by DT in a long time was Illumination Theory. It slays!... But is it just me or is the mix a little weird? Vocals to high, and drums to low? Previous albums had a bit more punch to them.

They're back! I've only listened to the stream once, but it's looking very promising. I'm waiting for the proper quality CD, as SoundCloud has a habit of overcompressing stuff. Anyway, i'm even more hyped for the release now.

Still on my 2nd listen, seems like the songs have more quality to them in general, both in songwriting and lyrics. I think this will be better than SC, BCSL, Octa, and even ADToE.

"wouldnt go that far"

I would. Wrote up a 4.5 review on it too but I never posted it. Mike Portnoy is a beast on Honor Thy Father, and Stream of Consiousness is hands down my fav instrumental by them. You got to get angry when listening, bro.

This is pretty bland, damn. I actually had hope for it, given that I liked the last two albums.

The snare sounds terrible.

I thought the writing was pretty damn good on some songs, and average on others. This album actually had stand out moments as opposed to the last one...

The new Dream Theater is better than the previous one, still some song writing issues are evident, it's as if band A has recorded the ante-2003 albums and (a much much more tired) band B the post-2003 ones.

I am loving this album. Drum sound is great imo. Snare is deep, massive sounding and sits nicely in the mix unlike the new rosetta tin drum sound.

This is really, really good, mediocre production aside. Only on my second playthrough, but this might well be my favorite DT album since Train of Thought. Absolutely crushes A Dramatic Turn of Events, at least.

Holy Shit this album is really good. I'm so happy cause a lot of the new music coming out from bands I like have been disappointing. This is my favorite album since Train of Thought for sure!
