Audioslave Split Over Money?

2007-02-28 by Dave de Sylvia EMERITUS | 19 Comments
The New York Post has quoted an anonymous source claiming that the motivation behind Chris Cornell's departure from Audioslave had less to do with "personal reasons" and more to do with the group's financial arrangements.

"Chris was unhappy with the financial arrangement within the group - he wrote all the music, yet the other three bandmates took an equal share in the multimillion-dollar publishing rights," explained an alleged confidante of the singer.

Chris Cornell- putting the "slave" in Audioslave.

Chris Cornell has never been that good to be honest and thank god all this fiasco is over so we might be able to move on....

Cornell didn't write all the music, pretty much every guitar riff is clearly Morello.

Nevermind, I'm glad he's quit, just more chance that RATM reform for good.

That's a stupid reason to quit, he should have spent more time figuring out the financial sutuation than his solo career if he worried so much about it. Oh well, go RATM, i hope they join back together.

I don't give a fuck if Cornell wrote every song, the only reason people went to see Audioslave was to hear Rage songs, and shows generate way more money than albums. This Message Edited On 02.28.07

If he means lyrics, ok. But there's no way he wrote very much of the music. Maybe 10% at the most. Those riffs and jams are defiantly the rage boys' work.

Haha. I lost some respect for Cornell reading this. Are all vocalists asses?

Well...I was actually only thinking about Axl Rose. :P

Are all vocalist asses?

No

But I believe the previous statement about them splitting over personality issues. I mean, if he indeed wanted more money cause he's the singer or main songwriter (yeah, sure) it would definitely irk the Rage boys.

Chris always struck me as the "rockstar" type anyway, making it seem odd to me that the Rage guys would play in a band with him.

An anonymous source says this and everyone immediately leaps on Cornell like starving jackals. Am I the only one capable of backing up and realizing that the words "anonymous" and "alleged" are meant to imply that this is not a concrete fact and must be taken with a grain of salt?

Looks like I'm once again in the minority by saying that I honestly don't see Rage getting back together as a great thing.

Honestly, I couldn't care less. Chris is just being a whiny little piss.

I don't know why they split, I wasn't there I think that we will have a better understanding in a few years. In my opinion the first album was pretty good, the second on was alright, and the third one was just plain wierd

Seeing as how Cornell is now doing a solo project, I can believe this article might be true.

I hope RATM are back for an LP and not just a few shows.

I wonder if this does have any connection to the recent RATM "get together". Interesting.

I like the "he wrote all the music" comment. Explains why Morello's licks have been so much less interesting than his work with Rage. LOL.

As far as I'm concerned Chris Cornell was never better than he was on his solo album. And the other fellas were never better than when they were with Zack. This could be good news for both parties.

Ugh. Sure, new Rage shows for all you kids in the US is a great thing, but it's hard to see why a new Rage album isn't going to suck.

Although I greatly appreciate Cornell's vocals, it seems like the RATM group is always stuck with very "difficult" vocalists. Kind of a shame.

Oh well. RATM at Coachella this year for the win, in any case!
