" Lambesis would have needed to pay two million dollars to bail if he ended up being guilty"

This doesn't make any sense. If you plea guilty, you go to jail or face whatever penalty they give you. You don't get bail because you're already locked up. You might get a fine, which isn't bail. If he is out right now, he probably plead not guilty and posted bail. Contrary to popular belief, bail is essentially a cash 'agreement' between the court and person(s) and that money is returned once the trial is over to whomever posted it regardless of guilt or acquittal.

Basically, he pleaded not guilty and paid the 2 million dollar bail. He may have got the amount lowered or did what is called a property bail which means instead of paying it with cash he paid it with say, for example, his house.

"So even though they have concrete evidence against him, they let him get away on bail? Or am I

Yeah, he needs to show up to his next court hearing. He is basically free until then. That is all part
of the "Due Process" clause of the US Constitution which includes innocent until proven guilty, fair
trial, etc.

Plus the prison system just literally does not have the time, space, or money to hold defendants who
are awaiting trial.

The dude should have pleaded guilty because he would have gotten a plea deal with a penalty that wasn't harsh. Instead of getting 8 years in prison, he coulda gotten 10 years of probation or something instead.

Dunpeal

Dude should just plead guilty at this point, I'm pretty doubtful he's innocent but I could very well be wrong. But if he pleads guilty atleast then they might give him a lighter sentence. He I think he feels there might not be enough evidence for him to be convicted and has a chance is my guess.

The bail number has to do with the severity of the crime, like if you steal a candy bar or some shit your bail is gonna be like 50 bucks

But yeah I see how it benefits the rich, like the bail was set that high with the intention of him not getting bail, but he did anyway

I dont really think it favors the rich, sure in extreme cases where the bail is set at 2 mil. You gotta have bail though. If you didn't and were wrongly accused you could waste months just sittin in jail waitin on a trail. And sure if your convicted you'll get credit for that time but if you didn't do it then all you can say is hey that experienced sucked

This is probably tru. I'm just sayin the for most offenses I think bail is affordable, you can also negotiate hrs of community service, GPS trackers, house arrest all kinds of shit to get bail reduced(sometimes). I've known people that got like 5 felony charges plus resisting and their bail was only like 40,000. I guess it really just depends on the judge

Holy people going full retard all over this thread. Dude up towards the top made this simple process even more crystal clear for you dumb asses.

You know that whole innocent until proven guilty thing? Well ideally someone should be free until convicted. But then common sense has to be considered. So the charged person's freedom has to weighed against the severity of charges/threat to public safety. Bail is the basic solution to this dilemma.

Clearly not perfect as many noted, since wealthier people often have a better chance of staying out of jail before and during trial.

Oh well. The world is such a imperfect place.
