Atreyu New album in March

2006-03-05 by Drunken Viking | 18 Comments
They five piece metalcore band from OC, California are set to release their fifth full length record to be titled "A Death-
Grip On Yesterday" on March 28, 2006. This album is nine tracks in all with the song Ex's and Oh's set to be their first
single off of it.
"We are wrapping up the recording process as we speak and I have to say, if you think you know what to expect you are
most likely wrong. In the past we have felt like we held back certain things sonically because we were afraid to deviate
from the "Atreyu" sound. We have thrown that all out the window to write some of the most honest songs we have ever
written." - Alex Varkatzas Lead singer.
The tracklisting in order is as follows (thanks BTG),

1. Creature
2. Shameful
3. Our Sick Story (Thus Far)
4. The Theft
5. We Stand Up
6. Ex's and Oh's
7. Your Private War
8. My Fork in the Road (Your Knife in my Back)
9. Untitled Finale

They are confirmed for the Taste Of Chaos tour and are expected to do their own tour shortly following. Their song
"Her Potrait In Black" that's in the movie Underworld: Evolution will not be on the album as it was simply written for the
movie.

The "Atreyu" sound? That's a joke.

Only 9 tracks? That's kind of bogus...lest they're long.

The songs are longer then before, but still only 3 and half minutes for most. Brandon really improved his singing on this album, Alex still doesn't have a good scream but he uses it less.

I hope this "new" sound is a good one.

The album itself in total is roughly 33 minutes long.

Its definately a improvement over their previous releases in my view.. its more of a enjoyable listen to 'The Curse' and 'Suicide Notes....'...

And also, yes the 'clean vocals' are better, I've noticed that there was a lot of angst towards this in the reviews I've read haha... but all in all... its a improvement, but nothing revolutionary.

there is no new sound, if anything they just went for an even more accessible sound than before. Stay far away, it sounds like they scrapped this together in a couple of hours.

They have a slightly new sound, it's not completely new like A7X going from WTF to COE, but it's different. For an example listen to Ex's and Oh's, that shows a huge amount of improvement.

Nope still slightly emo look at the song titles, Ex's and Oh's, and Your Sick Story. They aren't true emo, but slightly.

Ex's and Oh's isn't that bad, but it does feel oddly like something's missing. After a listen or two, it becomes pretty bland and forgettable.
They seem to have lightened up a bit in terms of heavyness, so I don't think we should expect anything like Bleeding Mascara or You Eclipsed By Me on this album.
Oh yeah, and I saw them live last year, and Brandon was fat. Norma Jean opened and just completely blew them into another galaxy, despite their songs being terrifyingly loud and vicious. I swear, afterwards Atreyu looked scared to come out onstage.
Made me giggle. Then bang my head. Good times.

I got the atreyu cd since 2 weeks ago; and I have to say that though the album sounds more emo it have a lot of great elements like alex melodic voice (that I never had listened before) besides the theft is (though is a completely emo song) a new sound that they havent experimented before.. I know that is a little bit short... but they made their biggest effort and the lyrics are great less of course (exs and ohs...)
