New Devin Townsend Song

2012-08-05 by Synthestration | 38 Comments
The song, entitled "Lucky Animals," is pulled from the upcoming Devin Townsend Project
album, Epicloud, and was played by a radio station in NA on Saturday 4th June. Townsend
described the song via Twitter:

"I think a station in NA is going to play an Epicloud song on Saturday. A simple, fun
one that's not too indicative of the whole album.

The song is loosely based on my relationship to Syl [Strapping Young Lad]. I
refer to it as "The New Beige"...of course, it sounds nothing like what you'd expect from
that description. It's a bit more "showtune" than many may prefer."

Townsend also added later that the song was "not really indicative of the album, but
fun enough I think."
Epicloud is set for release on the 18th September in the US, and
the 24th in the EU.

"Lucky Animals" can be heard on Soundcloud here:
http://soundcloud.com/officialinsideoutmusic/devin-townsend-project-lucky
Townsend has also release a clip containing snippets of all Epicloud songs, including
"Lucky Animals," to be found here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OngSHLiBoK4

Devin Townsend has also expressed interest in creating a video for the song with fan-made
content, with more details to be found on his Twitter (@dvntownsend) and Youtube
(poopynuggeteer) accounts.

Sounds pretty good. Lucky Animals seems like an oddball song, business as usual for Dev!

The previews sound fucking sick though. Can't wait!

Pretty good, but not blown away I guess. Still excited for this uber "musical"-ish record of awesome fun time winningness.

Good stuff, he said this song isn't a very good example of how the whole thing will sound though.

Based on the samples, Epicloud seems like the sequel to Addicted combined with all of the good parts of Deconstruction. I'm okay with this.

Lucky Animals is meh, but from the previews it sounds like one of the worst songs so that's OK I guess. Some of the other previews kick some major ass

"Song has Anneke so it rules."

My thought exactly. Still, album is sounding pretty sweet...cant wait for the rerecording of Kingdom and his London show in October.

Great!

I'm drawn to this mans music for reasons I don't really understand. It's like he's tapping into my psych and offering it significant aural pleasure.

One of his silly songs, I don't know why they picked this one to play. But w/e, it's not too bad, and the sound quality is pretty bad on that vid which hurts simple songs more than complex ones.

It's all right, but I'm just glad that it's not one of the best songs on there. I hate when singles are usually one of the best songs on the album, or the only good song on the album... But the previews of the other songs I heard sounded really epic so I'm not worried at all.

Yeah it does seem kinda a confusing choice of single. If the label is trying to push this record as Devin said, wouldn't something like "Where We Belong" or "Save Our Now" be a better choice?

Updated the article with some new info. Oddly enough the Soundcloud link still has some pretty poor sound quality. In fact when the song is played in the Youtube video about submitting fan-made content Devin posted that I mentioned in the news thing it sounds like better quality so I'd recommend just listening to that. You also get the added bonus of watching Dev dance..

Many of the song clips sound decent, but this full song is fucking terrible.

Really excited for the Kingdom re-do though, that's one of my favourite songs.

As I predicted, now that the song is up in better quality on soundcloud you can hear that it's not too bad, just a bit repetitive. Still probably going to be the weakest track on the album though.
