song names go in quotations
song is terrible
| |
boring
| |
yeah i pretty much love everything about this
| |
dear god that was awful
song names go in quotations
this.
| |
Cedric sounds awesome here but the band sounds lazy
maybe too much heroin
| |
Spanish? You're retarded.
| |
wtf is this :o
| |
lol "spanish"
missed that. the standards for news articles are pretty abhorrent these days.
| |
the drums on this track rape so hard.
| |
Don't like those chords.
| |
i hate this place but i love these chords
| |
the vocals are pretty much the only good part of this
| |
its ok...was hoping for better
| |
hey whaddya know the general concensus of sputnik is wrong yet again
wow didn't see this one coming lol, especially after the users' Top 10 Best of 2011...
| |
hatersssssssssssss
| |
I think I understand the "future punk" title put on this record now. The song is pretty great.
| |
I think I understand the "future punk" title put on this record now. The song is pretty great.
| |
Their new drummer is sick
But this song is terrifyingly bad
| |
I could never get into this band after Deloused. This is no exception.
| |
future punk
yeah i get it now
| |
Love this track, and I'm pretty shocked at the negative feedback. Can't wait for the album.
| |
Cedric what the fuck are you doing.
Cedric what.
Cedric I...
Hmm...
| |
I sort of don't believe humans are behind this song, it's too dead of a feeling
Maybe the song was accidentally slowed down 200%. If that's the case, I'll still keep this album in the back of my mind
| |
I mean the drumming is awesome, but...
| |
I don' t know why everyone hates so much the track. It's not The Mars Volta of Deloused or Frances, but it's not that bad. A lot of people hated Octahedron because it was not a crazy album. Stop living in the past.
| |
Live in the future, punk.
| |
maybe they just think it sounds bad *gasp*
| |
"Stop living in the past."
Or maybe it's just bad
| |
eeeehhhhhh
| |
Live in the future, punk. [2]
| |
AOTY probably.
| |
second listen was better
i really want the tshirt that comes with the preorder
| |
saw these guys live once, but i have no memory of it at all.
| |
Gets better with each listen. It's a really abrasive song.
| |
these guys are my favourite spanish progressive rock band
| |
Is this the track there was a 30 second preview for? I quite liked that.
Incidentally I'm listening to TMV now, will check this out in about an hour.
| |
slightly disappointed
| |
On the first listen, this was pretty awful
And I didn't know Lou Reed was in TMV, either
| |
It got better as it went on.
| |
What the fuck was that
| |
After first few listens - wow, this is quite cool and unexpected. Certainly different from their other songs.
| |
It's obviously too deep for most of you.
| |
pretty boring, picked up a little at the end though
| |
Can't wait to get home! OMGOMGOMG.
I'm pretty much always disappointed after the first listen on every TMV single. And then like 4 listens later I love it.
| |
well, at least Cedric's prediction that this album was gonna be polarizing seems like it's true.
| |
This song is pretty cool and stuff.
| |
I'm pretty much always disappointed after the first listen on every TMV single. And then like 4 listens later I love it.
This is so typical with The Mars Volta.
It happens to me too with every new TMV record.
| |
It's obviously too deep for most of you. [2]
Haven't heard it, but I know this is true. It always is with this band and you dim-witted haters.
| |
It's honestly pretty damn good. different, but we are talking about the mars volta.
| |
bunch of subnormals
| |
Each and every release got worse and worse and worse. This is horrid.
| |
I think the correct term would be "Hispanic", as none of them are from Spain. But, the song isn't bad, it's different and way more straight forward than anything else they've done. I'm going to refrain from really looking too far into it until I get to listen to the whole album from front to back.
| |
well, at least Cedric's prediction that this album was gonna be polarizing seems like it's true.[2]
This can be true about the band too like Voivod said.
| |
sorta languid
vocals kill
cant wait to hear this whole album
| |
Vocals and drums rule
the lazy riffing is cool and zeppelin-like
the freakout parts suck though
3/5
| |
faux prog
| |
yea this ain't prog
| |
Say what you will about the song, but i could play with those fucking triangle things all day long.
| |
Who cares if the song title is in quotations or not? It clearly says it's a song title beforehand so noone will be confused. Song is sweet, had to grow on me a bit though
| |
Not a huge TMV person, but for me this is better than most other TMV stuff. The guitar here is actually kind of similar to Josh Klinghoffer's style on I'm With You. Very much in the background, playing random texture-y things every so often.
| |
The Evgeni Malkin Jewel.
I enjoyed the song, though I'm sure the album will have better offerings. I'm glad that the craziness is back! Cedric sounds awesome here.
| |
first song I've heard by this band. not a good introduction.
| |
I fucking posted this as News first! how did it not get posted,
And also, I'm worried about this new album now. Though most of the songs sounded amazing live. especially Trinkets Pale Of Moon.
| |
Who cares if the song title is in quotations or not?
because that's the correct way of doing it lol
| |
Fuck that sucked.
| |
Thought this was pretty good
| |
I personally liked it.
| |
Actually, they're Texans (Cedric and Omar are, anyway). You wouldn't call them a "hispanic band," because that's even more retarded then calling them a Spanish band. You don't call Thrice a caucasian band.
| |
"because that's the correct way of doing it lol"
Clicking edit only freezes my screen lol Looks like it stays that way till the mods fix it
| |
meh
| |
Sigh, out of the woodwork I come.
To all those who do not like this track, I have it on good authority (from someone who has heard the whole album) that:
1) Malkin Jewel is the 'worst' song on the record and sounds nothing like ANY of the other songs (and the guy has no idea what it is doing as a single)
2) The record is easily the best TMV have put out since Frances (in his view)
3) There are almost no guitar solos on the record, and most of the songs are in the 3-5 minute range (some sound slightly like ATDI e.g. Dyslexicon)
4) Of the 13 songs, 5 of them are more ballad style (Empty Vessels, Imago, Trinkets, Vedamalady, and Noctourniquet)
5) Cedric's vocals are the best he's ever produced on record
| |
prove that you've heard it
and honestly i do like the sound of that. 8 rockers and 5 ballads
| |
I was halfway through listening and realised I forgot my coffee downstairs so I had to start the song again, fml.
Song blows.
| |
It was different to usual Volta stuff, but that's what I kind of like about them, they're constantly changing their sound.
It was quite good upon first listen.
| |
A lot of respect for this band as musicians, but they're a rrrrreally hard listen. Made it this time to the end though.
Whether it'll stay on my player, that's a mystery.
| |
I'm not saying that I have heard it. Some music journalist with an advance copy liked it so much that he started posting on the TMV fan forum. Initially people thought he was bullshitting, but he knew ALL the details.
I wasn't much surprised by how this studio version sounds because he provided a detailed description a week ago that matches with the version above exactly. He's legit.
Of course, what he thinks of the album might not match up with what any of us make of it, but he was damn excited, and didn't come across as a complete fanboy who likes everything the band has done (he said he didn't much like Amp or Bedlam).
| |
I heard the preview and i was like wtf. but the full listen was pretty good and excessive listens just make it better. defiantly something fresh
| |
Track fucking kills
not surprised by the negative feedback though, because well this is sputnik
| |
a couple of the songs i heard sound very reminiscent of atdi. it's encouraging to hear that this song is (supposedly) an anomaly.
used to frequent the comatorium back in the day. makes sputnik look like a bastion of intelligence in comparison.
| |
@Satellite, heh it's cleaned up its act somewhat recently (at least on the main threads), but yeah, I know what you mean.
And as to this song, I quite like it personally, but I can't believe it's been released as a single; I mean really!? Should have been Dyslexicon. That song is brilliant, and genuinely sounds (in it's live version at least) as if it could have come off RoC
| |
That song was a mess and not in a good way but im still somewhat hope about the rest of the record. Haven't liked any album they did after Amputechture tho.
| |
OMGZ HATERZ !!1!11!!!!!!1!!!!!!!!!!!111!! song is gash.
| |
lets hope this is the worst on the album coz its way boring compared to their norm
| |
i thought this was actually pretty alright. this is better than anything off bedlam or octahedron. good to see they're experimenting
| |
its grown on me a little bit its still weird as fucking high holy hell but yea
| |
but bedlam had goliath and octo had cotopaxi, which are objectively the best songs ever
| |
that was cool as fuck
| |
but bedlam had goliath and octo had cotopaxi, which are objectively the best songs ever
Goliath IS one of their best songs. agreed.
cotopaxi was my least favorite track on octa, though.
| |
^ looooooooser
| |
sputnik will rate 1.5 but i'm pretty sure it's going to be the best album ever made ever
| |
is this good
| |
if you like cedric and acid mothers then yeah you might dig it but posers like satellite will be like wtf this isnt deloussed .0143/5
| |
It's basically the rape baby of deloused and octahedron...so, yeah it's good.
| |
Fucking great
| |
i kinda like it but the melodies are weak, the end was very nice
| |
don't deny your love
| |
nah i dont know how pumped this got me, its missing something
| |
yea the other 12 tracks
| |
ohh
| |
brilliant
| |
neut listen to it like 8 more times
| |
noctourniquet and koloss on the same day
officially m/
| |
this isn't very good, but their singles are never that good so we'll see what happens. seems like they should have left omar in control of writing/arranging.
| |
I have no idea how I feel about what I just heard.....
| |
people still listen to this band
| |
"people still listen to this band"
they've had one run of the mill album out of 5, so...yeah
| |
i'm really loving the atmosphere that the song starts building toward after the 2nd chorus.
| |
YES! Cedric sounds fucking amazing. AOTY.
JIZZ
| |
yeah, and omar isn't even mexican.
| |
So this is kind of fucking awesome. Reminds me alot of proto-punk, in a good way. Drums are great, riff is awesome, vocals are great, yeah, this rocks. I've probably only heard two of their previous albums max so this comes as a pleasant surprise.
| |
how does everyone not love this
| |
dat shirt
| |
this... is... baaaaaaaad
officially not excited for this album anymore
| |
Not as good as their other material but still not that bad
| |
pretty rad song.
| |
pretty bad song.
| |
Hmmm it's okay. A little disappoint.
| |
texas is in spain?
| |
Pretty experimental sounding. I'll be listening to more though before drawing conclusions.
| |
Jesus Christ this song is amazing. Their new album will probably divide an already incredibly divided TMV fanbase even more and I can't wait.
| |
doesn't play on my browser. i wonder why.
| |
This song didn't wow me at first, but with each listen, it's growing on me. Kind of reminds me of "Soothsayer" from Bedlam mixed with the "Cygnus..." mid-jam. Still excited.
| |
Thought the song was great. Don't know this band very well. I know their first two albums. All you haters can fuck off
| |
"All you haters can fuck off"
You don't like people because they didn't enjoy a song you enjoyed? Seems a bit harsh.
| |
i really enjoyed this
| |
That was awful. What on earth are you people listening to?
| |
Yep, this sounds like prog.
| |
I'd rather have new at the drive-in.
| |
best tmv song in a while
| |
don't like The mars volta, songs are too long and random. ah ah ah. Sorry. I like octahedron a lot but I can't stand de-loused in the comatorium for the moment.
| |
...Sounds like the parts of Bedlam and Octahedron that I did not care for.
I'm crying a little.
| |
Song is DECE. Any opinion that differs from mine is wrong.
| |
If you can't stand Deloused in the Comatorium, GTFO
| |
If you can't stand Deloused in the Comatorium, GTFO [2]
love this band, don't really like the beginning of this song at all though .
| |
Song started off super lazy but gets pretty good by the end. Still have a lot of hope for the album.
| |
awesome, walking spanish
| |
song's okay but usually for Mars Volta the whole album has a better impact than just a song
| |
song is awesome, ending is epic. definitely a grower
| |
cool song. sounds like Grinderman
| |
Song is really weird..
De-Loused is still their best work to me.
| |
So strange but I dig it, I feel like it will sound better within the context of the album.
Best part is the vocals for sure.
| |
agreed. i can not fucking wait for this.
i wish the pre-order had an option with vinyl.
| |
It appears that they have taken everything good about their music and removed it.
This is fucking wiggidy wack.
| |
2.5
| |
None of them are even Spanish...
| |
Yep, this sounds like prog.
That's not how you spell punk.
| |
Band is just a fucking embarrassment to music. Seriously, fuck them.
| |
Just lost respect for BigHans
| |
I absolutely loved that. It's nothing like their previous works but it is still excellent.
| |
lol, I think Ill live, Voice. Ive been slamming TMV for years.
| |
Can't lose respect for someone for a fairly true statement
| |
De-loused and Frances are some of the best albums I've ever heard. What are you guys even talking about?
| |
Frances is a steaming pile of shit. DeLoused is their only album that is even remotely passable as music, and that is even stretching it.
| |
I wouldn't go as far as saying they are an "embarrassment to music," that would be both illogical and nihilistic.
| |
well I said fairly true since deloused is pretty decent
| |
Voice, Nihilist believe in nothing. I believe with more certainty than I have to file taxes by April 15th that the Mars Volta fucking suck tremendously hard.
| |
DeLoused is pretty cool, but yeah after that this band sucks major balls
| |
does Hans distaste for this band make you like them any less? who fucking cares
| |
i reckon they're saving all the heavier idea's for a new ATDI album
| |
deloused is like
their 3rd best album
| |
i reckon they're saving all the heavier idea's for a new ATDI album
has a new atdi album been confirmed? i really can't see it happening - i'm still shocked by the tour.
| |
But of course, you see
They make a super shitty Mars Volta album to get fans worried and desperate, then save the day with an awesome AtDI record that sells billions. Fucking genius
| |
http://www.metalinjection.net/latest-news/at-the-drive-in-reuniting
| |
^ might be old news tho
| |
Lol don't worry Hans I still love you *bro hug*
| |
song wasn't that bad. i liked it.
| |
what the fuck. Hope this is a grower because on first listen this was awful.
| |
It's different, doesn't seem too pretentious or anything. It's kinda cool.
| |
Hanson, you gonna review it?
| |
Everyone should boycott this album so they have no choice but to tour with At the Drive-In
| |
^u mad bro?
| |
Absolutely love this song, this is the most exciting song they put out since Amputechture. The third chorus is fucking insane and gets me so pumped for this new album. And all this hatred of the song/band is just the beauty of TMV.
To the person that said they are a disgrace to music, seriously? This band is the farthest thing from it. They reinvent their sound with every new album and push the boundaries of modern rock/prog. I think the bands you need to worry about ruining music are shit post-grunge bands that sound exactly the same.
| |
takes a few listens but really digging it now
| |
I don't dislike Hans any less for not liking tmv. People get too worked up on opinions here.
| |
to trash Frances the Mute just demonstrates a lack of awareness of what progressive really means
| |
^ that seems like an exaggeration
| |
^ that sounds skeptical
| |
well played
| |
still can't get into this after several listens... count me out
| |
It's one song.
| |
no, they've ruined everything with this one single song and i can never go back
| |
amazing. stoked as fuck for this album
| |
leaked
| |
i guarantee it'll be on some blog by the end of tonight
| |
why do you say these things foxxy
| |
you'll see, you'll all see!
| |
fuck false alarm
| |
damn you foxxxy
| |
i trusted what i thought to have been a reliable site. sorry guys
| |
dick
| |
let's exile him.
| |
"Voice, Nihilist believe in nothing. I believe with more certainty than I have to file taxes by April 15th that the Mars Volta fucking suck tremendously hard."
not clever, 2/5
| |
Song is still fucking awesome.
| |
don't exile me
| |
We will forgive you this time.
| |
Song is primal funk/punk. Love it.
| |
And Frances the Mute is one of the best albums EVER.
| |
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tzRx3mP5_K0
holy shit this is gonna sound amazing in proper album quality
| |
i have very little doubt that this album will rule. as tempting as it is, i refuse to listen to any youtube audio recordings though..
| |
"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tzRx3mP5_K0"
yeah this album is going to definitely surpass Octahedron
| |
new new song sounds good
| |
For sure. Is there an ETA on this?
| |
No leak or anything, just some early reviews to counterbalance some of the negativity of the earlier comments:
Hot Press: http://www.hotpress.com/The-Mars-Volta/music/reviews/albums/Noctourniquet/8753385.html?new_layout=1
The Dubliner: http://29.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lz52fdn5EG1qzbxiso1_500.jpg
Adds to the highly positive reaction that this album has been getting from those who have already heard it. Very promising.
| |
will probably suck hard tho
| |
IT LEAKED
| |
you better not be fucking with me.
| |
the link that i just got it from was taken down. lol sorry.
holy shit this chorus synth in The Whip Hand is dancey as fuck.
| |
3 tracks in, so far it's very synthy and surprisingly dancey. definitely has the post-punk influence that i expected.
i'm absolutely loving this but i have a feeling it's gonna piss off just as many of their fans as Octa did.
| |
i hate you. i'm at work.
| |
the transition from Empty Vessels to The Malkin Jewel is fuckin sweet
| |
CAUSE I'M A LAND MINE
| |
FUUUUUUUUUUCK YESSSSSSSSSSSS
| |
In Absentia
what the fuck am i listening to
| |
Most of this album is excellent, but the sequence of songs from Imago through to Zed and Two Naughts is extraordinary in my opinion. Empty Vessels and Lapochka are also brilliant.
| |
this is just beyond awesome
| |
omg this is torture.
part of me is sad i'm going to a pianos become the teeth concert tonight instead of staying home and fapping to this...
| |
don't worry dude it'll be worth the wait
| |
enter - internet shitstorm
mars volta fans are worse than tool fans
| |
wow in absentia is so strange. turns into glory at the five minute mark though.
| |
need a linkkkk
| |
it indeed did leak. too bad i'm in a lecture. boo.
look around xeno... i found it in about 3 minutes
| |
ok. i changed my mind. the last two minutes or so of in absentia are probably a top 10 or 15 mars volta moment.
| |
the link i got is down
| |
hay gaize if you wanna chat on aol instant message/ichat/whatever YOU MIGHT GET A SURPRISE
sn is acorncheese
| |
just finished my first listen. AOTY so far.
it's hard to compare it directly to any of their other albums... it's not nearly as mellow as Octa, although there's definitely more soft parts than their first 3 albums had. It's pretty harsh and anti-melodic like Bedlam at times, but not nearly as aggressive.
there's also a lot more electronics and sampling on this than probably on any other album of theirs.
| |
The 'ballads' on this album are surprisingly good; as in REALLY good. Makes up for some of the rather lacklustre attempts on Octa.
Also, this album is probably the only TMV (other than maybe Amp?) that is frontloaded with a lot of the more abrasive tracks. Normally it's the other way round.
| |
GOD DAMMIT WHY CAN'T MY DOWNLOAD GO ANY FASTER.
| |
this is already sitting at a 4.5 for me after the first listen. the only issue i have with it is the overused chaotic drumming. the same brand that's found on bedlam. could have been a lot more refreshing.
STILL AOTY SO FAR
| |
yeah it definitely is
| |
About to listen to this :3
| |
:3
| |
Dude it's so good. Ugh.
| |
my saying you have one life, why spend it hateing people.
i have enough reason to hate some people. they know who they are. but nope, i rather spend life with laughs and happyness ;)
| |
also shitty band
| |
"just finished my first listen. AOTY so far."
lol
| |
AOTY.
| |
WE LANDMINES NOW
| |
i swear to god if this isn't better than their three last ones im burning my mars volta shirt
| |
just about done with first listen. hm
| |
omg LINK PLZ
| |
leaky slut. go.
| |
thanks man. hoping for the best
| |
idk how i FEEL
| |
if it sucks im done im wearing my volta shirt right now if this sucks im throwing it out
| |
it rules it just needs to sink in a lot
| |
or maybe it's bad
| |
Impossibru.
| |
dwayne don't joke
| |
if its 64 minutes of 'afkne'lkn'lkNE'LFNA;LNRA;JGN;RKJG and omar sucking the dicks of 50 different effect pedals im gonna throw a fit
| |
it's not
| |
does cedric rule on it
| |
yes
| |
hell yeah
| |
There are almost no prominent guitars on this at all. What guitar there is is mainly textural. Synths are essentially the lead instrument (with considerable drum input as well).
| |
not just voice melodies too?
| |
this is leaked. . . . www.newalbumreleases.com
| |
um wtf synth is the main instrument so now their rush k
| |
the vocal melodies are really great, cedric doesnt sound tired or abnormally psychotic
| |
yeah before i forget, the drums on this are fucking insane.
| |
DOWNLOAD ALREADY
| |
i didnt find the drums over the top at all
| |
The vocal melodies are also extremely prominent, and that's just as well because this might be Cedric's best album in that department.
Also Deantoni Parks has a background in electronic music, so he tends to replicate drum-machine/programmed beat patterns; that's why the drum playing is quite skittering.
| |
if this is better than In/Casino/Out or De-Loused in terms of cedric's work ill prance around my town naked
| |
It's different to In Casino Out, so you can't really compare. I actually prefer his vocals on this album to those on Deloused however (more range and texture).
| |
no way his melodies on de-loused were fucking brilliant
| |
In my opinion, so are these; there's just more variety to his singing this time round. He's going to struggle with some of this live though, so we'll have to see how he handles that.
| |
the drums were the only flaw imo. way too much chaotic/spastic drumming when it's not even needed...i thought this was deantoni parks not thomas pridgen
| |
Done with my first listen. It's awesome just like I predicted. Going to listen again.
| |
EVERY FUCKING DDOWNLOAD NEEDS A PASSWORD COME ON DOES ANYONE HAVE A FUCKING GOOD COPY GOD FUCKING DAMMIT
| |
yeah you can. . . .
| |
Fuck this is awesome. And I don't even listen to a lot TMV.
| |
neutral, www.newalbumreleases.com, no password
| |
Son of a bitch, this blows. This is what I get for giving them a chance after The Malkin Jewel.
| |
tentative new TMV ranking:
Frances > Ampu > Noctourniquet = Deloused > Octa >>> Bedlam
| |
if you think ampu is better than deloused youre obviously gay and like dicks.
This is hit and miss for me so far
| |
the only thing deloused has over ampu is consistency. the high points on ampu are infinitely more impressive than those on deloused.

yeah their impressive but their overdone 10 fold and poorly put together, and I never have ANY desire to listen to that album. I find the way they integrated catchy, loud punk with latin fusion and huge melodies on De-Loused and the way the album impressed technically while still being concise was more impressive than any technical flare on amp

its funny bcuz the best song on deloused was televators.
| |
frances=deloused>bedlam>noc>amp>octa
i'm a sucker for bedlam. though it's looking like noc could overtake it with time.
| |
lol televators is fucking amazing but if you think televators is better than Roulette Dares or Drunkship of Lanterns youre like a poop face
| |
those songs are awesome.
just not "tetragrammaton" awesome.
| |
tetragrammaton was annoying from what i remember, i only listened too amp twice
| |
the album is kinda too much so far, just like amp and bedlam in that manner. i know its volta but im sitting here in my volta tee right now wishing i was listening to their older shit. and i know its a cliche thing to say, but some of this is just way too fucking much.
| |
yea im not sure about this at all
| |
lmao
sounds like u just can't HANDLE IT bro
| |
however, "aegis" is fucking killer.
| |
fuckthatnoise whoever you are you said that amputechture was better than deloused so who gives a fuck what you think lol
yea the chorus for aegis is sick as fuck
| |
because it IS better.
| |
ill definitely say I like this style more than the one on octahedron. octa ended up being a 3 because it was mostly pretty good, but there were like 2 atrocious songs on it. This has a few too many awful songs on it so far, but my two favorite tracks on here destroy everything theyve done since frances imo.
| |
again, its too much added blips and bloops in attempt to make the album more colorful and the compositions more interesting, and its just really hit and miss so far. Sometimes it ruins the whole song, sometimes it blends with cedric's melodies and the grooves perfectly, but its just not consistent at all so far. Ive learned since Frances not to expect consistency on a Mars Volta album anymore. If it continues this way itll get no more than a 3 from me.
