oh god, all of this makes me think of SOPA. I swear to god if that gets passed
|
| |
As long as we've still got Mediafire...
|
| |
this is fucking terrible, if they shut down mediafire omfg
|
| |
As long as it's not Mediafire, I don't give a fuck. Once MF is gone, I will shed a tear and die.
|
| |
i love how the next comments were about mediafire, kinda gets me worrying. But honestly i wouldn't be surprised if it was next
|
| |
Shit is starting to get real.
|
| |
Yeah if they shutdown mediafire someone is gonna die.
|
| |
it begins.
|
| |
Damn.
|
| |
God fucking damm it. Seriously If they are continuing these shutdowns I'm gonna blow up some of those lobbyists buildings!
|
| |
does this mean icefilms won't work anymore!? FUCK!
|
| |
nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
|
| |
I will actually blow it if mediafire goes.
Time to stock up on music
|
| |
Damn.
|
| |
I read on WSJ that four of the guys were arrested in New Zealand.
Deviant's still here though, yes?
|
| |
Holy cow I just used this for the first time yesterday for the new Lamb of God
Don't give them any ideas about ediafiremay
|
| |
haven't seen him review in a while O_o
|
| |
DAMNIT JOM!
|
| |
It's coming.
|
| |
I'm going to be a sad turtle if they shut down mediafire. If SOPA gets passed I'm just going to kill myself.
|
| |
Megaupload aren't even American
|
| |
I could care less. I never pirate music. Download films and shows and stuff, but I am a sort of piracy bitch when it comes to music. Don't know why.
But damn, $500 million.
|
| |
I could care less
How much could you care less
|
| |
$500 million on that retarded imaginary system that says I would have gone out and bought everything I have ever watched on megaupload at msrb prices.
|
| |
made me think of SOPA too. For fuck sake....
|
| |
Yeah this sucks, Megaupload had some good stuff on it and this is a bad omen.
|
| |
"The individuals each face a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison!"
What the actual fuck?!
|
| |
omg i just used it today
|
| |
I don't care much for megaupload but damn. And if media fire is next...I'll die
|
| |
Holy shit.
|
| |
It seems like countries really like cooperating with us, the kid in the UK for having the website that hosted/allowed link posting for vids and now New Zealand.
|
| |
dude not cool, this is fucked up. Just don't take mediafire!!!
|
| |
R.I.P.
|
| |
Omg da end is nigh
|
| |
These bitches will never learn. There will always be ways to share music and whatnot on the internet. If the US government gets all mad, the Russians for instance won't give a single shit. Seriously, fuck'em.
|
| |
this is some seriously bad news, bros.
|
| |
Tim to go on a massive music downloading spree
|
| |
Fucking shit...
|
| |
who's tim?
|
| |
hes a cool guy, you should meet him sometime
|
| |
500 million dollars is way too extreme
seriously think about how much money that is. 1 million dollars... 500 times
|
| |
Team America: [Internet] Police?
Sadly that's how our government thinks. I want to get the hell out of this country.
|
| |
rapidshare is fast but I can't download multiple items at once from them
|
| |
It claimed that the accused pursued a business model designed to promote the uploading of copyrighted works.
"The conspirators allegedly paid users whom they specifically knew uploaded infringing content and publicised their links to users throughout the world," a statement said.
|
| |
I mean yeah downloading is bad but i buy anything that is i really like and is worth buying, especially vinyl. I wish people we're still excited about going to the record store to buy a new album, i am for new etid, shins, avett bros, btbam. I see now that some bands think that only selling digital copies is the only way to go which is retarded because i can download anything for free, it's not the same as having a cd or vinyl.
|
| |
In a year or so we will probably go back to trading tapes!
|
| |
Sadly that's how our government thinks. I want to get the hell out of this country.
Sadly there are no non-retarded governments in modern society
|
| |
"Sadly that's how our government thinks. I want to get the hell out of this country."
doesn't matter where you go, you'll probably still feel the effects of it
|
| |
Good point. Well, guess everyone is screwed, then.
|
| |
the next great war will involve the people and the government
|
| |
It claimed that the accused pursued a business model designed to promote the uploading of copyrighted works.

Seems rather erroneous/vague to me.
|
| |
It seems like countries really like cooperating with us
ever since 9/11 the agreements on extradition etc have been really unequal
|
| |
the next great war will involve the people and the government
You mean the capitalists vs. the people, right?
|

This right here. ^
I find it to be bullshit that they won't even really allow us to listen to an entire album without buying it. I'm sorry, but previewing 30 seconds of a song for some of the things I listen to doesn't cut it.
Either they need to make buying music more affordable (99 cents for a three minute song, really?) or they need to adapt.
This is just my opinion.
|
| |
totalitarian government: coming soon to the USA! 8D
|
| |
You mean the capitalists vs. the people, right?
got it
|
| |
Yes, but in my case I download with around 1mb/s from rapidshare and 200kb/s from mediafire. I prefer waiting a few seconds to download every file very fast instead of downloading multiple files with slow speed.
Sucks dude I get about 700kb/s on mediafire
|
| |
Yes, but in my case I download with around 1mb/s from rapidshare and 200kb/s from mediafire. I

For me they're both around 1mb/s

I get about 1.3 mb/s. On my girlfriend's internet at least. Her internet is crazy fast.

capitalism is fine, the government pandering to big business is not
there's a difference.
|

those people were probably terrorists too
|

capitalism is fine, the government pandering to big business is not
bro that's what america is all about now though, and it's only going to get worse

"bro that's what america is all about now though, and it's only going to get worse "
I know this.
|
| |
please don't take away mediafire!
|
| |
Ty, I whole-heartedly disagree with that quote.
|
| |
I get about 1.3 mb/s. On my girlfriend's internet at least. Her internet is crazy fast.
Mine would probably be faster, but I have my battlefield running and I'm downloading like 5 things from mediafire so that's probably slowing it down a bit
|
| |
fuck it, i'm just going to live on my own island now so i can have all of the music that i want
|
| |
let's organize a crew to rob music stores and see if that's preferable
|
| |
moral of the story: download as much illegal content as possible asap

jw why you think capitalism is fine

this shit is in full swing now

'Ty, I whole-heartedly disagree with that quote.'
Please tell me why.
|
| |
"Please tell me why."
No.
|
| |
@maniac! wow i can't believe that, i'm getting him to build me my own island-chessetopia
|
| |
Mediafire is the only thing that matters. I remember idiots telling me how bummed they were when Limewire shut down, I couldn't help but laugh at them.
But if Medfiafire goes...
|
| |
the world will end
|
| |
Lol Limewire
|
| |
"let's organize a crew to rob music stores and see if that's preferable"
there arent any music stores around me anymore.
|
| |
In the words of Fat Mike
"MURDER THE GOVERNMENT"
|
| |
Sucks. Reminds me of the Piratebay trials and all that whole debacle.
|
| |
1984 is happening
|
| |
Keynes was one of the greatest economists ever, and that quote seems pretty spot on
|
| |
Damn, this is huge. Megaupload was THE best filehosting site. No captcha entry, fast speeds, a large bandwidth limit. Mediafire is cool for music, but the 200MB size limit sucks. Horrible news.
|
| |
Ideological purity is always a bad thing. I think regulated capitalism with some slight tweaks
wouldn't be nearly as bad as the quote says.
|
| |
But I don't know anything, so whatever.
|
| |
i should probably download a bunch of music right now, but i'm too lazy. I don't mind buying cds and stuff. I do that anyway plus downloading from mediafire
|
| |
Seriously overblown! If you have a chance to download 100 albums that mildly interest you, you will... If you have a chance to buy 100 albums that mildly interest you, you will not... Therefore you basically stole nothing out of no one 'cause you wouldn't buy anything in the first place.
|
| |
'Keynes was one of the greatest economists ever, and that quote seems pretty spot on'
The sad thing is that European governments are completely ignoring his theories atm and are cutting
their budgets like crazy which according to basic economic science will pretty much destroy Europe's
economy :/
|
| |
Oh shit, hope the cops don't catch ME!
|
| |
How can US corporations sue residents of 9 different countries. How do they get the authority? Chilling...
|
| |
This will destroy the music industry if it continues. File-sharing is the most artistic and un-capitialist way of delivering music to the consumer and exposes many artists who, because of said file-sharing, become much bigger than they otherwise would've been.
|
| |
'Ideological purity is always a bad thing. I think regulated capitalism with some slight tweaks wouldn't be nearly as bad as the quote says.'
Yes yes that is exactly what the quote means! It says that capitalism can work but only if you make sure to restrain the capitalists a bit (like the banks)
|
| |

Piracy is wrong no matter how you look at it, but I can't ignore this growing feeling that eventually everything will be like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFfROj-onjk&feature=related
the chancellor's meeting, not all that shit blowing up lol
|
| |
OMFG where the fuck is my megavideo nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
|
| |
oh wait nvm didn't see your other posts
i just think that your "capitalists vs. the people" statement is very oversimplified
|
| |
Piracy is wrong no matter how you look at it
there actually been cases where piracy has actually lead to drastic increase in sales
|
| |
that doesn't make it right though
stealing is stealing
|
| |
Welp
Time to download every album ever
|
| |
fucking US can never have enough can they
|
| |
i absolutely agree, but it's not entirely bad.
|
| |
bad omen. better start stocking up on music.
|
| |
Ehem, "It's a good thing that mediafire is a really lame site that no one uses because of how 100% legal and boring it is, right guys?"
|
| |
Yes Mr Eno I am quite aware it may seem a bit simple but I still think you can make some changes to the way the system works without completely breaking it down. I'd like to see some more regulation and more solidarity (it's not fair that some people are making billions of dollars a year while others have to work 3 jobs just to pay the bills every month but that's another discussion)...
As for alternatives, I seriously don't have any... There has only been one succesful experiment with another system but that ended quite badly... I'm quite sure you'll already be familiar with it but yea: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paris_Commune

My country is really pissing me off.
gonna move to Sweden and give Wolfe a visit.
|
| |
Wiping off my 4 terabyte hard drive right now. Time to put this thing to work
|
| |
yea sweden is a socialist nation, and is the country with the highest rate of atheists in the world. they're booming
|

this is so millionaires and billionaires can make even more money.
the American way.

Ffffuuuuucccccccckkkkkkkk!!!!!!
Dont take mediafire for the love of god not mediafire!!!!
|

'gonna move to Sweden and give Wolfe a visit.'
:[
|

haha sites like Mediafire are going to see a 1,000% increase in activity starting today
|
| |
if they take mediafire away i will fucking die
|
| |
"and is the country with the highest rate of atheists in the world."
yep, sold.
|
| |
If mediafire is gone soon too, I'm going to murder my Congressmen for not at least attempting to take action
|
| |
Stopped using it after mediafire started having everything I wanted.
|
| |
You mean the capitalists vs. the people, right?
christ almighty you're daft
|
| |
You wouldn't visit me Brandon? :[
|
| |
Damn this is pretty scary news. However, if this was about 2 years ago I would have cared A LOT more.
And like others have said, as long as mediafire is still alive...
|
| |
what the fuck, i just used that site today
|
| |
scary thing is they're doing this shit and SOPA isnt even passed yet. I hope the piratebay survives.........
|
| |
Who cares?
|
| |
if mediafire is next... holy shit, gotta dl so much music now.
|
| |
I don't think the government's done a single positive thing in like over six months

'Piracy is wrong no matter how you look at it'
there actually been cases where piracy has actually lead to drastic increase in sales (2)
|
| |
It's just a matter of time before mediafire is history too. Doomsday clock just clicked one step closer. SOPA/PIPA legislation will follow suit. 12-21 can't come soon enough haha
|
| |
if I wasn't pirating music I wouldn't be finding out about new bands, thus not going to their shows and buying their merch either, which contributes more to the economy
|
| |
After watching the news these last few days my theory as to why they are suddenly cracking down so hard on piracy is because they are trying to open up markets and get more revenue streaming. It doesn't help that Obama turned down the Keystone pipeline project which basically could have single handedly saved the USA from absolute impending doom.
Also to add onto the anti-capitalismness...
"The Capitalists will sell us the rope with which we will hang them" - Lenin
|
| |
Oh damn there goes the majority of my movie watching...
As long as we still have mediafire, there is still hope.
|
| |
megavideo sucked
|
| |
WHY COULDN'T THEY TAKE OUT RAPIDSHARE
|
| |
Ugh. When the filehosts go, so can many potentially great OOP nuggets from years past that are virtually unobtainable without the aid/magic of file sharing. However, where there's a will, there's a way - for a nugget to appear online, someone had to have it in the first place. Thus, I'm pretty sure a new way will appear for me to get all those forgotten 1992 tape rips that I tend to desire every now and then... but will it be as effing convenient and awesome as this is?
|
| |
megavideo ruled
|
| |
if this crusade against file-sharing is actually successful it will pretty much destroy independent music culture. if you had to buy every album you've ever heard, how many bands you love would you have never heard? i'm betting it's most of them.
|
| |
bandcamp, duh
|
| |
Is this really Music News?
|
| |
uh yea
|
| |
if it's free. but seriously i don't sit at home and stream music or look up fucking youtube videos to hear music.
|
| |
"Is this really Music News?"
Yes. Swizz Beatz is the CEO, you dope.
|
| |
did nobody read the part where they were "suspected of racketeering"? lol
|
| |
megavideo sucked
Megavideo may have sucked but it had everything
|
| |
BREAKING NEWS: Sputnikmusic has been seized and arrest warrants are being issued to all the users enrolled to this music site.
|
| |
Just to be on the safe side, with the 40 gb's of space on my Ipod left...Mediafire...here I come
|
| |
Megavideo ruled because I've been watching Yugi-Oh and Batman Beyond on it. Gotta go with Videozer now for BB...
|
| |
"BREAKING NEWS: Sputnikmusic has been seized and arrest warrants are being issued to all the users enrolled to this music site."
lol @ when they realize 1/2 the registered users are raven
|

Yeah, I was gonna say, with Megavideo gone, life sucks a little more. Guess I'm gonna have to give up and sub back to netflix at some point.

“Capitalism is the astounding belief that the most wickedest of men will do the most wickedest of things for the greatest good of everyone.”
- John Maynard Keynes
The irony when you find out that it was an Keynesian economic policy that fucked up the US/UK/Other countries economy. The US and other EU countries such as the UK where im from doesn't live in a capitalist society/economy. Its corporatism at its most ugliest, closer to fascism.
|
| |
guy the orwell book
|
| |
This is just going to push the levels of piracy higher. Hell look at everyone right now thinking they are going to binge dl, and it's not going to be just here. Yet another example of how government intervention tends to create the opposite effect of what it is intending.

| |
'dude that happened like 20 years ago'

nah dude that's animal farm. 1984 is nuts

Little bits and pieces, don't claim to be an expert but I know a little bit about economic and political structures. 1984 is an amazing book, so amazing in fact that governments have been using Orwell's ideas against us.

it would seem like nuts would fit better in a story with animals

hey i just heard it from a friend of mine who's quite knowledgeable in stuff like this, i'd just thought i'd share

This just really sucks, I mean the file sharing sites might be going, and PLUS CD's are
slowly fading(well at least where I live)........I mean could this get any worse?
|
| |
I mean could this get any worse?
Yup, they could go after the users instead of the cites, you could be in jail.
|
| |
wonderful years to come
|
| |
Jail? Really? I thought they would at most fine you
|
| |
there is no way in hell they would possibly be able to target everyone who has ever downloaded files from that site
that would take way too long
|
| |
so sick of our intrusive fag government sticking their nose in EVERYTHING
|
| |
I'd hope mediafire don't go, because they seem to try to appear actively anti-piracy. Ironically, that might end up working in our favour
|
| |
@Scoot - I know, just showing that this isn't the end of the world, just annoying.
Fine's only are a bit light, this guy could get 5-10yrs.

|
| |
Wow, I can't believe I'm saying this but i'm actually getting a bit worried
|
| |
According to alexa.com, megaupload was the 68th most visited website worldwide.
mediafire is #65...
4shared is #86.
These 3 are the most popular file hosting services.
|
| |
should the government really be putting so much time on piracy? this should be relatively low on their to do list.

should the government really be putting so much time on piracy? this should be relatively low on their to do list.
I know right?
|

fucking with the little man? that's right up at the top of their list
|
| |
As long as we've still got Mediafire... [2+]
|
| |
Are they seriously planning on trying to catch all the people that have used the site?
|
| |
No I'd say that's almost counter productive, we can only handle so many people in the court system.
|
| |
Yeah true
|
| |
For fucks sake, it's only mediafire. There's plenty of other sites to use if that were to go down, some you probably have never heard of
|
| |
blogs are still great sources too
|
| |
Our government fucking sucks. Why don't they do something useful for once. They're idiots if they think they can actually stop piracy. Anyway if mediafire goes I'll cry.

lmao! literally no one has pretended they don't d/l music.
|

The Mayans...WERE...RIGHT...
|
| |
what's mediafire?
|
| |
Reminds me of my parents insisting that I should download from Megaupload instead of Pirate Bay because of Hadopi (I live in France, it's kind of a toned down version of sopa that passed despite, of course, massive public opposition.)
Metallica's gonna be pleased.
|
| |
...
|
| |
If Mediafire goes then so do I.
|
| |
Awww man, I only just watched the Season 3 finale of The OC on megaupload, now I want get to see how many people Ryan bashed until I get the DVD. Shit.

independent music culture. if you had to buy every album you've ever heard, how many bands you love
would you have never heard? i'm betting it's most of them.
It's so true. A band can get huge within a couple of weeks from word of mouth alone just because of
how easy it is to share files. I think it's a fair trade, I download your music but in return I
promote and share it with others. Without that cycle it will go back to bands being in the dark and
everyone missing out on great music. The RIAA wants it to go back to the old days where we all
listened to whatever they pumped out on the radio.

You gotta wonder where the 500 mill would go.
|
| |
A bit more than that now, they're filming The Hobbit so bump it up just a bit.
|
| |
200 at last census
|
| |
Hobbits count as half people though, right? I'm thinking that only raises the number up 10 or so.
|
| |
This does suck. But not really for pirating music. As long as they stay away from Mediafire we're good. If they get shut down though, oh, wow man, the amount of music the internet and world in general just lost would be staggering. God damn these miserable cunts. Seriously, how is it MegaUpload's fault that people upload illegal content to their website? All you have to do is contact them if you have evidence of your copyrighted material beign uploaded on their servers and they'll immediate remove it and sometimes even ban the accounts that uploaded it. There are perfectly legal reasons to use file-uploading sites besides the massive amount of copyrighted material on it, and those people are getting boned right now unfairly.
Fuckin Sopa first, now this. What the fuck Obama, grow some balls and some social fortitude.

To tell the truth, I'm less worried about Megaupload and more upset about Megavideo. Damn, that sucks.
|
| |
I'm not so worried about megaupload as much as what is gonna follow this
|
| |
It's ok guys. Dev will still be allowed to post from his cell.
|
| |
'the next great war will involve the people and the government '
well every war that has ever been fought has involved people and their goverments
|
| |
I'm not so worried about megaupload as much as what is gonna follow this
This is basically a big "Fuck You" from the U.S. government in retaliation for the Anti-SOPA/PIPA protests yesterday. It has to be.
|
| |
I'd be pissed if mediafire got shut down too but at least there's no way they can shut down the pirate bay, they already tried that
|
| |
well every war that has ever been fought has involved people and their goverments
um you sure about that?
|
| |
This is basically a big "Fuck You" from the U.S. government in retaliation for the Anti-SOPA/PIPA protests yesterday. It has to be.
My thoughts too
|
| |
www.fbi.gov
Anonymous took it down. Comes up every now and then like DoJ, but it's mostly down at this time.
|
| |
if this site is down then holyfuckingshit400000 is fucked
|
| |
^ Yep. Megaupload was the best option for flac uploads. All those years of files...gone in an instant. Sucks. I wouldn't have blinked an eye at mediafire going down.
|
| |
site is already back.
http://megavideo.bz/
|
| |
rest in peace, megaupload. i remember the first time i laid cursor on you, in 2004 downloading obscure metal releases. stay kvlt

The Justice department's site and Universal Music Group website have already been attacked by Anonymous, lol
|
| |
Fuck Megaupload was one of my favourite download sites.
|

I've always used iTunes. Never knew where to go to get good downloads otherwise

Mediafire shouldnt be shut down sense big companies like verizon, ford, pepsi, exxonmobile, walmart and target use it.
|
| |
mediafire is apparently very legal according to sources like wikipedia explaining why and will probobly get removed if sopa passes, so we good right now guys
|
| |
If Mediafire gets shut down, suicide is the only option.
Forreal though, this SOPA is bullshit.
|
| |
But yes SOPA and PIPA is all fucking bullshit
|
| |
mediafire is apparently very legal according to sources like wikipedia explaining why and will probobly get removed if sopa passes, so we good right now guys
|
| |
lol so the angry nerds who are pissed that megaupload is shutdown have shutdown the justice department's website
I lul'd. You don't fuck with nerds.
|
| |
I use megavideo way more than megaupload, but either way this sucks. Can`t say I`m too suprised though.
|
| |
Still wondering what the OC is gonna do without Marissa, FU megaupload
|
| |
Man I was just rewatching the first season...for the 5th time
|
| |
Site IS already back:
http://109.236.83.66/
|
| |
mediafire is protected and "anti piracy" so its good i hope :P unless sopa is gone
|
| |
FUCK NO I WAS JUST IN THE MIDDLE OF DOWNLOADING THE COMPLETE YU-GI-OH AND ALL THE LINKS ARE FROM MEGAUPLOAD!!!
|
| |
It would really be one thing if they were worried about piracy of small artists and small producers of media. But the only people benefiting from SOPA and PIPA and now this shutdown are the big names that already make millions, and just want a few million more. Quite sickening.
|
| |
You know what I'll tell my kids?
"...and on that day, more people than ever before were informed about how you can "download music for free on the internet" and the popularity of other music piracy sites was increased. Yet, not a single shit was given by any members of the music loving public."
|
| |
Remember that article a little while back where it was reported that CD and vinyl are selling high again? Perfect fucking timing, SOPA.
It's about the perfect time to revive the Refused party program.
|
| |
I got mediafire still. Idgaf
|
| |
MediaFire's decent but it doesn't really host as much videos as MegaUpload.
|
| |
lol the OC? really?
|
| |
fuck this crippled the anime site I usually go to
|
| |
anonymous is doing a good job.
|
| |
mediafire is essential to my very existence.
|
| |
somewhere out there ulrich is rejoicing
|
| |
well this sucks
|
| |
downloading music being labeled as "stealing" or making people "pirates" assumes that everything downloaded would have been bought otherwise. if i steal a car, someone is now minus a car. if i download an album, no one has lost anything.
that is the fundemental problem with this. the media industry has failed to move with the times and instead of addressing their own incompetence they are trying to slow down the progress of society with bullshit like this.
|
| |
Wow. Icefilms is picking back up fast! The entire series of firefly is back up.
|
| |
well if all this shit goes down, we'll be boycotting all corporate owned media and resorting to making music and entertainment for ourselves in our basements. it'll be another dark age...and then those assholes shutting down our www can go fuck themselves.
|
| |
if this site is down then holyfuckingshit400000 is fucked definitely the worst effect of this, not including the implication that more damage is coming soon. poor tolkii.
|
| |
Totally agree with macadoolahicky on page 1: "I could care less. I never pirate music. Download films and shows and stuff, but I am a sort of piracy bitch when it comes to music." Though I did occasionally use MU for assorted downloads, so I guess I cared a bit. But everytime it just pissed me off that it wasn't hosted on MF instead.
|
| |
why would you not pirate music? do you even like music? gtfo.
|
| |
Because all the artists I listen to are fucking starving... almost literally. They lose money on tours and records. That's fucking shitty!
|
| |
yeah but if people didn't download their music, they would have like 8 fans and no one would ever go to their shows
and they wouldn't even go on tours in the first place. file-sharing is the only reason we enjoy the massive diversity in
independent music that we have today.
|
| |
I'm not really trying to argue the merits of music piracy here. Primarily, it's simply my way of supporting the artists I listen to.
Tangentially, whether or not piracy is beneficial, I cannot justify it ethically; my moral system isn't utilitarian (or religious), at least in the usual sense. Not that it prevents me from pirating things, which is something to think about I suppose.
|
| |
"Sources say that at one point in time, Megaupload was the thirteenth most popular website in the world"
I'm guessing behind 12 porn sites. This sucks though, Megaupload was an awesome site. Fucking morons.
|
| |
Anyone else actually buy their music?
|
| |
I think most buy when they can/when it's a favorite group.
|
| |
i buy shirts and vinyls and sometimes cds and i go to shows and tell bands that i love them. but i would do none of those things if i hadn't downloaded their albums.
|
| |
this is a perfect example of why anti-piracy legislation is retarded. to assume every illegal download would have resulted in a purchase if not for file-sharing is absolutely absurd, evidenced by the fact that you have 73 fucking album ratings, in contrast with average music fans who download having thousands much of the time.
|
| |
Like many (probably) have said above, I believe piracy/downloading albums is a huuuuuge plus for lesser known artists who would otherwise have practically no recognition at all. The only artists who really benefit from a takedown of these sites are the top 40 pop artists or the older supergroups, who have already established themselves.
I try my best to actually buy the albums I really really like, but the fact of the matter is that without downloading them first, I would have never discovered a lot of them in the first place.
Also, in other news: the attack of Anonymous on the 'takedowners' of MegaUpload will probably result in the faster approval of the SOPA bill, unfortunately...
|
| |
"evidenced by the fact that you have 73 fucking album ratings"
And how the fuck is that evidence?
|
| |
because clearly you can't fucking afford to buy thousands of albums (or you just don't really like music), so instead you
stupidly choose to listen to less music. conversely, i have downloaded thousands of albums and have probably
purchased roughly the same number as you, since i spend much of my disposable income on music. the only difference
between us is that i have heard hundreds more albums than you. i'm pretty okay with that.
|
| |
Fuck man, I got half of my porn from that site.
|
| |
Right, im off to rate a 1000 albums....
|
| |
are you even going to pretend it's better not to hear more music? fuck off man.
|
| |
"Anyone else actually buy their music?"
If you give people what they want for a reasonably price, they will buy it. The record and film industry don't do that. Their channels are expensive and out-dated. They should be capitalizing on the internet, not trying to restrict it. They trying to move technology backwards instead of forwards.
|
| |
ITT people still defending capitalism

Capitalism works fine
|

what doesn't work so well is the system under which american political officials can be bought by organizations like the riaa and the mpaa. i will not re-elect my representatives that vote in favor of sopa, pipa, etc.
|
| |
Well at least we still have Filesonic, Fileserve and Piratebay
|
| |
I'm going to be a sad turtle if they shut down mediafire. [2]
Me too...
|
| |
NOOOOOO, so many obscure albums and stuff i have downloaded from megaupload
|
| |
You Americans are just downright silly with your copyright laws.
|
| |
everyone who legitimately had legal files on megaupload should take UMG to small claims court, since its not represented by a lawyer they have to send a representative and if they dont show up they lose ($5000, at least thats what it is in sc i think, a person for 10,000+ people hurts). plus they have a legitimate grievance for property damage
if corporations want to rape the law to hurt the consumer, the consumer needs to do the exact same to them
|
| |
as long as mediafire is still up, idgaf about megaupload
|
| |
Well we will probably always have the pirate bay, i mean seriously they've tried about 500,000,000 times to shut it down but sweedish law just doesn't give a fuck.
|
| |
In the words of Shimon Moore from sick puppies, "i dont give a shit if you illeagaly download our music as that means its getting out there, however you hear it wheather its from a friend or pirated oo off youtube or on the radio, it means more people are hearing it and maybe getting into our music and turning up at shows and buying merch, it all comes around eventualy somehow."
|
| |
Megaupload is back with just an IP as an address, just google new Megaupload.
|
| |
Still wondering what the OC is gonna do without Marissa, FU megaupload
It's a shame, they really went all out on season 4 knowing it would be the last.
|
| |
so, is it possible that mediafire might be next? i mean, it seems foolish to me that a train of internet downloading sites will be shutdown one right after another just bcuz one did. w/e, as long as i still have MF, im fine
|
| |
I bet a bunch of unknown artists will get even more obscure from now on!
|
| |
Tangentially, whether or not piracy is beneficial, I cannot justify it ethically; my moral system isn't utilitarian (or religious), at least in the usual sense. Not that it prevents me from pirating things, which is something to think about I suppose.
lol
|
| |
Capitalism works fine
lol
|
| |
I don't get why they always slap a Dr. Evil -esque charge on these things, are they saying they calculated lost revenue and it amounted to $500 million? Just seems like profiteering through abuse of the law.
|
| |
That shit cray
|
| |
Jom makes the eruditest point. America asking/ordering other countries to hand over their citizens as if it was the World Police. Moaning that you may have to buy stuff like we did in the good old days; freedom is not free! And if vinyl can make a comeback surely paying for music can too..?!
|
| |
HEY US GOVERNMENT BAN FACEBOOK TOO. THEY HAVE LIKE UNOFFICIAL ARTIST PAGES WHERE THEY POST LINKS AND COVER ARTS AND STUFF.
|
| |
ive allways used mediafire, but yeah this sucks
|
| |
I'm gonna get nightmares about mediafire shutting down.
|
| |
Fuck piracy and Anon.
Go US Government!

FACT's article regarding the fallout from this
http://www.factmag.com/2012/01/20/the-fallout-from-megaupload-reactions-to-the-sites-closure-and-more/
I found this interesting
And a side of the story that was glossed over last night: thousands, if not millions of people used Megaupload as an online storage spot for their personal – and crucially, legal – files; files that, for the moment, appear to have been lost. Another post on Torrentfreak has collected Tweets from people who’ve fallen victim to this.
|
| |
thats exactly why i posted what i did up there about small claims court
|
| |
That's got to have sucked, can they do anything legally?
Edit: Saw Maniac!'s post, never mind.

"This will destroy the music industry if it continues. File-sharing is the most artistic and un-
capitialist way of delivering music to the consumer and exposes many artists who, because of said
file-sharing, become much bigger than they otherwise would've been."
but alot of artist are making music so you buy it even if lets say they don't want to write popular
music they got to in order for sales otherwise they get no where. and most people who download
illegally a album they like/love do not buy them after listening to them. you can sample everything on
YouTube and iTunes should make full listen available IMO
|
| |
most of you think artists will suffer if illegal downloading goes away, i don't. back in the 70's, 80's early 90's music sales and touring was at it's peak as soon as people started downloading for free it started to go down. no record sales = less record label promotion = less touring = less money to the artist. it doesn't matter how many people like your albums on the internet the record label didn't make money from the record = less touring ect......
|
| |
'Yup, they could go after the users instead of the cites, you could be in jail."
they cant possibly arrest millions of people, the prisons are overcrowded already
|
| |
i do not support SOPA, but you can sample anything on YouTube even make a playlist for artists and download from iTunes in a flash. no excuse for illegal downloading. if i worked and people took what i worked for with no payment ill be pissed, you cant deny it's stealing in some shape or form.
|
| |
"if this crusade against file-sharing is actually successful it will pretty much destroy independent
music culture. if you had to buy every album you've ever heard, how many bands you love would you
have never heard? i'm betting it's most of them."
i bought all my albums (over 50) and i would share album with my brothers and close friends and they
with me but they give me stuff they bought too (some i bought for my self cause i became a fan of
the band/album and really wanted to own it although i already had it legally). i got about a 100
albums on my computer all legally
bought, i think no one cares about sharing CD's (tapes like back in the day) with the people you see
day by day or friends from even far away it's not as big as downloading and if your friend likes it
he would most likely buy their next album and merchandise and go see the band live if possible.
although if you like a band that you download illegally it's just as easy to download the next album
as well. music business is on it's knees right now and the movies too but not to the same degree.
some band don't make it because they do not get any record sales, label doesn't have money to
promote them and send them on extensive touring and also, label doesn't make any money so they cant
record more albums and try to go recruit new band for albums it's a chain mass effect.
|
| |
Well goddammit, there goes Ice Films. Shit.
|
| |
Ice Films is gone now too??
|
| |
Well it's still there, but almost everything on there is streamed from MegaUpload.
|
| |
This thread is just full of new users spouting shit they haven't thought through so well.
|

It's a shame, they really went all out on season 4 knowing it would be the last.
shit yeah cage fighting!

I'll fucking pray for mediafire. Omfg, don't shut my little angel down!
|

NO FILESONIC! FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK
Watch for MediaFire, RapidShare and FileServe collapses.
|
| |
I have to admit, the more I read about the lucrative scheme the shitbag who ran Megaupload was running
i'm starting to feel a lot easier about this.
I doubt these other file hosting sites have much to worry about if they aren't pulling similar stunts.

This actually brought a tear to my eyes.
