I heard about this a couple hour ago, it's really sad news.
Just doesn't feel right.

Does anyone know why he left? Looking for something different, or a breakdown of relations or something else?
|

Looks like Brandon found a new band pretty fast. I thought he would stick with the skateboard company job for a bit.

i heard about this last night on punknews, and everyone was slagging off brandon.
to be quite fair, brett was never an amazing drummer (its widely known that he pretty much learnt to play in the few months before rancid started), but he was still good.
brandon on the other hand, is a really solid drummer, regardless of whether or not you like the used, you can't not admit that.
this could be interesting.
|
| |
wow. Well this sucks.
|
| |
Never saw this coming, at least they got someone good to replace him, but I just can't believe Brett is gone, wouldn't it be weird if like Brett joined the used or something.
|
| |
Rancid have gone down hill after their self titled 2000 release. Although Brett wasn't the best drummer out there picking up a drummer from the used isn't going to help. At least Lars didn't leave the band, that would have been awful.

"Rancid have gone down hill after their self titled 2000"
I'm not sure how you could say that, since they've only released one album their 2000 release. A band starts going downhill after they release 2-3 bad CD's one after another, IMO. I personally liked Indestructable, and thought it had some really solid tracks on it.
|
| |
I know they have only released one album but it was dreadful. Tim Armstrong has also participated in some awful side projects, as well as Lars, and now this. Rancid is just a complete mess.
|
| |
I actually think Indestructible kills 2000. I don't like 2000 at all.

I agree with you there Zebra, I don't like Tim's solo stuff much at all. The Transplants first album was alright, but nothing amazing. The 2nd one was God awful. I haven't heard enough of Lars's project to comment on it.
Matt did a good thing by providing bass to the Social D album "Sex, Love And Rock And Roll". But the bass on the album as whole never really stood out and was quite bland.
However, no matter how much the side projects might suck, when the 4 (now 3) of those guys come together, they put together something amazing and worthwhile. This Message Edited On 11.04.06

Actually Matt didn't play bass on that Social D album. He joined the band just after recording/release.

That's because Social Distortion's Sex, Love and Rock 'n' Roll was finished before John Maurer left. Then Matt joined, that's why he was never on the album. This Message Edited On 11.04.06

This will most likely be for the better. When I saw Rancid in July Brett must have fucked up and lost rhythm about 3 or 4 times. It was pretty shocking, and although I'll always enjoy his insane work on the second self titled album, he was never that good. This Message Edited On 11.04.06

That sucks. Brandon is a traitor. The Used is decent. Rancid sucks. Maybe he'll convince them to play decent music.

icaught fire444... YOU SIR, ARE A NOOB!!! >:b
|

I caught fire, you are in the minority. By alot.
This kind of sucks, as I liked Brett's style alot even though he wasnt very good.
Also to Rudd: He must have been having an off night, as he is generally a very solid drummer live.

For those of you who haven't seen this interview, it's a must. I didn't mind that Rancid got a new drummer, but this interview makes me change my thoughts on it.

That interview is pretty shocking. Seems like they never thought any of them would back out of the band. It's funny how Brett was the only one that stayed quiet throughout the entire interview...
Thanks for the link, pard.

But...but.... nooooooo! This isn't allowed to happen to Rancid!
As for Brett screwing them up, usually I see Tim screwing them up, not Brett. This Message Edited On 11.07.06

Why did Brett leave in the first place?
