I don't get the fussing, it's not el cielo but it's certainly an enjoyable listen.

Physically painful to listen to. Should be used as a torture device for Guantanamo Bay prisoners.

If it were anyone else it'd be a decent if unspectacular listen. Kalathat and the Ornament wouldn't have been out of place on some of their earlier albums. Chorus to Somebody is Laughing is pretty risible though.

the ornament on this album is fucking AWFUL. can't believe that its studio recording, which took so long, turned out to be so bad. the live version from @the fillmore is absolutely perfect.

It's a parody on pop. That's all. It's not necessary. I don't mind it but I feel they wasted a lot of time.

you guys know this is just a one-off departure record, right? they said in an interview that this could've been billed as a "Dredg and Dan The Automator" record. this isn't gonna be their new permanent style or anything.

I mean, even as someone who doesn't entirely hate this, i'll admit that this album was kinda pointless. i'd be more than willing to wait twice as long if the follow-up to TPTPTD was at least on par with it.

Although, listening to Another Tribe, it really is a shame how the rest of the album turned out. I dig that song, and it shows that this project could have been better than it turned out.

its not bad. i think people just want to not like it. people here did the same thing with Pariah then all of a sudden everyone liked it. the amount of people here that said this sucked probably didnt even listen to the whole thing. sputnik users of late are just retards. if only the mx users would find themselves migrating back to the review site we would be in much better shape and back to the way it used to be

True ^

I don't really see anything bad with this release. Sure its not as grabbing as their other releases but some people are giving this a 1 rating? That's just ridiculous.

This album could have been great, but they rushed it. This is no more apparent than in the song "The Tent". Gavin even said himself that they only spent 2 days in a real studio and wanted to get this done as fast as possible without much effort (they didn't want to spend a lot of time like they did on TPTPTD). Still, apart from like 4 songs.. it's not bad at all. It's easily their worst album though. They could have trimmed it down and released it as an EP, which would've made more sense. The backlash would be a lot less severe as well.

I've listened to the album three times now. It's really not that bad, say a 3-3.5 maybe. Gain''s vocals are fantastic. The only track I really disliked was Upon Returning, which we already heard, so the rest of the album was a pleasant surprise.

Really though they're just using this to buy them time to work on a real record, and they wanted to have absolutely no expectations in place so when they drop it, everyone will be shocked at how good it is.

Or they're past the point in their lives where they should still be making music.

Dally you cant seriously think their drummer is "shit"

on this record maybe, cause you cant even fucking hear him.. but ive seen them live 3 times and he KILLS it, has so much energy..

their first 3 albums were great.. pariah was decent.. and this is just shit.. If you like this album can you please EXPLAIN why? Theres nothing going on here. The vocals seem out of place, the drums are all but removed, the guitar/bass are uninventive and bland.

Can someone point out anywhere in this album where that statement can be proven false?

Zackkkk
May 3rd 2011

I understand why people dislike this, but whats up with all the hate for Pariah? I thought that record was brilliant. Easily their best work next to El Cielo.

mast3rshake16
May 3rd 2011

I mean.. songs like quotes, gathering pebbles, and mourning this morning (and others) could be thought of as brilliant and showing the band going in a new (yet still GOOD) direction. There were a bunch of other cool songs, then there were songs like savior, information, and ireland which if you take out of context of the album are just MEH..

On chuckles there is not a single song I would go to my friends and be like "hey, listen to this song... its really good". If there were some aspect of the songs that I understood as "good" in the first place that would be a great start.. but im not finding it
