Cynic lineup changes/status report

2010-12-15 by Metalstyles | 46 Comments
Progressive metal act Cynic has parted ways with guitarist Tymon Kruidenier and bassist Robin Zielhorst.

The band wrote on their home page: "We're announcing a change in the band's lineup this winter. After much soul-searching and discussion, Cynic will say goodbye to bassist Robin Zielhorst and guitarist Tymon Kruidenier. This decision was reached mutually, with great respect for each other as people and the work that we've done over the past 2-3 years. The logistical challenges of maintaining a band that is half based in The Netherlands and the other half in the United States (drummer Sean Reinert and guitarist Paul Masvidal live in California), has become unworkable.

The pre-production stages for Cynic's next release have just begun and it seemed like an appropriate time to define the next chapter of the band. The new Cynic release is coming in summer 2011 on the Season of Mist label."

Besides focusing on a new record, the band is also working towards a remixed re-release of their 1993 album Focus.

Yeah not a huge deal.

When I met the band those two guys wouldn't sign my CD so, whatever.

If Re-Traced is any indication, Re-Focused is going to be awesome.

Super excited to see what they have in store on their next album. Peeking of progressive metal bands with new albums, what has been up with PTH? Anyone hear anything?

Can't wait for the new album. This shouldn't affect them, besides Sean Malone still does all studio bass for them, right?

I say bring back Jason Gobel and Tony Teegarden and have Tony Choy do live bass.

Getting Sean Malone would rule. Excited to hear a new album is coming.

Also, I'm pretty sure PTH went into the studio in August.

Growls were pretty weak in Traced in Air, didn't add too much to the album at all. Looking forward to that new album.

I kinda liked Tymon's vocals, but really as long as they have Masvidal they're fine.

No big deal. As long as Sean and Paul are in the band, it's still Cynic and they're all I care about.

wow so much hate on Cynic. I think their a great band, and the loss of Robin and Tymon is annoying. They were great musicians. Yeah they can be replaced but they were still very talented. However their bringing back Exivious.

I do believe they will get Malone back but only for the album, as hes mainly a session guy now. Doubt he'll do any tours with them.

Tymon was pretty lackluster live. Bad vocals, sloppy playing...

Ive seen Cynic twice live and met them on this summers "Re-Traced/Re-Focused" tour. Robin and Tymon we're quite nice guys, Paul and Sean obviously were too.

Too bad to see em go, Tymon did some SICK growls live.

I'd really love a focus-ear lineup reunion, but I don't think Globel or Malone would agree. Ah well. One can only dream.
