looks like a pretty fun time, some bands I know I like, more bands I know of and might like. Couldn't live further away from the festival though

"more bands I know of and might like"

That line sums me up as well.

Just like the kiwis at the Commonwealth Games Dev, you're too slow. Who tickles your fancy on here?

Yeah, the depth is good on this... There are many acts I wouldn't go out of my way to see, but it wouldn't be bad seeing.

Unsure of the prices for this, but I am pretty certain it's in triple figures unfortunately.

Next week (Wednesday) I think.

Dougie, from memory, they were a bit all over the place with their timetables last year, which caused a few too many clashes. Confirm or deny?

Can confirm, was running from stage to stage, eg: Saw half of Florence so I could catch half of The xx.

Ill go to sideshows for Menomena, Ariel, Deerhunter, Holy F.

Yeah, Dougie... I think they have to be a little more sensible than that with their timetable. Florence & The XX were 2 of the biggest acts last year (or at least most popular) so to have them clash was a little silly.

Also, I recall Melbourne having sideshows last year, but this year its sandwiched in between 2 other states. I presume acts must come back for mid-week gigs.

Lame I really wanna see those bands but festivals suck tbh.

The thing is, once you get past 3 bands, sideshows will begin clashing anyway. They'll probably be on 2 nights & (unlike Soundwave) I'm pretty cretain they do not double up on international acts.

$110 is a bit steep, but fuck it i'd rather go to this than BDO 2011.

If that's the price, it is a bit steep. Sideshows are likely to be around $55 each though. Tough call.

Was BDO $170 this year? Crikey. I didn't mind paying for Soundwave and No Sleep Till but that was easy because both have some of my favorite artists of all time playing.

DaveyBoy

And at least SoundWave is comfortable for an audience member... You can go from stage to stage & not miss a thing.

Where-as at the BDO, you actually have to see acts you don't want to see to be in a position for those you do want to see.

And deal with drunk bogans that are just there to get off their face.

Hmm, what's worse? Drunk bogans or seedy 16-year old emos?

Awesomesauce

At least 16 year old scenesters are easily flung out of one's way. The drunken bogan tends to be a little more fiesty when provoked.

at the sydney show mumford and the xx clashed, so even when they did change it around a bit people still clashed

i honestly dont mind paying the 125 bucks for laneway, its really really good

I thought you would really like this line-up Kiran. Ditto for you Alex. Where do they hold it in Sydney? Is it still in a laneway?

horseypie, I'm sure they could have got around that somehow... Probably by having The XX 3rd last on the main stage or something.

By the way, from what i have been reading, it will be Cut Copy who are the technical headliners.

they shouldve put the xx on at the same time as echo and the bunnymen, they were shit. but mumford and xx clashed at like 5:30, were fairly early on. blasko played after mumford

last year and this year in sydney its at the sydney college of the arts, each stage was in a courtyard between the college buildings. was a cool setup

anyone going to this should definitely give the warpaint set a look

they're really great though i'm not sure how their sound translates live, particularly at a festival, but they've just come off a tour supporting the xx (another band you wouldn't think are amazing live) and i've heard a lot of good things

That Sydney set-up sounds pretty cool. Melbourne used to be in CBD laneways but then Girl Talk's set caused an absolute crush one year, so they have moved it to inner suburbia by a river.

I've never heard of Warpaint Kiran. Sounds a bit hippy to me. LOL. Who do they sound like?

Thought you'd think that Tom.

This is an insane line up and is amazing value. The Laneway in Perth has a great set up. Easily the pick of the summer festivals.
