NPR Picks Best of 2010 So Far

2010-06-30 by Jom | 66 Comments
National Public Radio has recently posted their listeners' picks for best albums of 2010 so far. After a purported close race which saw thousands of votes cast, Gorillaz's Plastic Beach took the top spot, while The National, The Black Keys, Broken Bells, and LCD Soundsystem rounded out the rest of the top five.

To see the rest of the list, which is also composed of The Gaslight Anthem, Spoon, Massive Attack, and The Flaming Lips, click on over to the link below:

NPR Music's recently released app is so awesome. Good list, but few of the albums I voted for made it into the top 50.

GA was good but we're all forgetting how stale the new record is.
The National, MGMT, and Vampire Weekend have never made good music, and they certainly didn't start this year.
The Black Keys, Band Of Horses, and Jonsi saved the list.

Well, drasticaction is obviously a fucking idiot. How the hell are you going to say The National are trying to "rip-off" The Smiths or Joy Division? The only similarities are that the singers are baritones.

American Slang wasn't stale. It was different. If it was stale then I wouldn't have the Spirit of Jazz stuck in my head and on constant repeat. Just to be sure tho, I'm seeing them in columbus at the end of July so I guess I'll find out how "stale" these guys are. If by stale u mean incredible then I'm sure they'll be very stale

also, big time agreement over Deftones being screwed by NPR. and, as with most everyone, I agree that the gorillaz should never be within 15 miles of the top spot. itunes couldn't give the album away (notice the dramatically lowered price and mixed reviews everywhere else)

is heaven whenever actually good enough to warrant a spot on that list? I've listened to stay positive but haven't gotten around to HW yet. Thoughts?

lol have some of you even been on NPR before? Shocked that a band like Deftones isn't on the user voted list?

Also, Drastication, the logic you are using is that because you think The National sound like The Smiths and Joy Division, they don't make good music. So essentially you shouldn't listen to any music because you can always find a marker that has come before and say that a band are ripping off someone who came before them. Does John Fahey suck because he played in a style of his forefathers?

You guys, it is NPR. What basis do you have for bitching about metal albums?

I'm pretty sure most of said people don't even know that their FM dials can go below 93.1 so are
completely oblivious to NPR, their average listeners, and would be in excruciating boredom if they had
to listen to All Things Considered. It's all about demographics, you retards wouldn't expect Source or
Ebony magazines to be repping Immolation, would you?

except for the Gorillaz album it's full of win.

they don't exclude shit. it's a listener based list for a radio station. you could vote for anything. if more trendy metalheads listened to public funded radio then that shit would be on the list (and don't think I'm knocking metal because Deftones, DEP, Twilight, Alcest, Daughters are some of my favorite albums of the year)
