Dave Matthews Band Touring Hiatus

2010-05-19 by Dave de Sylvia EMERITUS | 36 Comments
Dave Matthews Band have announced that, following their summer tour, they will take an extended hiatus from touring until 2012.

The band wrote: "As we feel the excitement building for this summer, we wanted to let everyone know that after twenty years of consecutive touring, Dave Matthews Band will be taking 2011 off.

"We feel lucky that our tours are a part of so many people's lives, and wanted to give everyone as much notice as possible. We're excited to make this summer one of our best tours yet, and look forward to returning to the road in 2012."

as usual, most people on sputnik don't get jam bands. sad to hear about dmb, i hope the break serves their creativity well.

I was really hoping they would cancel their headliner at Bonnaroo.

What is there to get?

its just a group of stoners seeing how long they can play nonsense until the bong hits start wearing off

i'm all about one jam band. they're called clutch. and they do it without much of the useless noodling or showy-ness that seems to pervade nearly everyone else.

and frankly they rock way harder than DMB

I fuckin love Carter Beauford... the rest of DMB and most of their songs I don't care for though.

my point was, both jazz and jam bands focus on improv and soloing

this is the problem on this particular site...it's pop-centric. it's not about rocking, it's not about re-creating...it's about the evolution of a song.

clutch is a jam band in the same way zeppelin were, they don't focus on the jamming aspect. however, they are so musically proficient that the riffs might get a little salt and pepper here and there.

most bands just try and fail to recreate the sound of their albums.

I like jazz and good jam bands because they're not attached to silly feel-good lyrics or a mindnumbing lack of guitar tone variety.

feeling good is silly? maybe for goths. and back in the day, instruments only had about one tone.

maybe it's the LACK of trendy fads surrounding GOOD CULTURAL MUSIC that turns some people off...they find comfort in name brands. or maybe it's the presence of more than one rythmic pattern?

now all people do at concerts is roam around and look disappointed. at least free spirits can have a good time while enjoying music.

Yeah, cause nobody there is really listening. What kind of concerts do you go to? The Jonas Brothers?

DMB is ultimate boner jam. the hate for them seemed to rise after the Bro Rape video came up on youtube, otherwise no one would be mentioning them and Jack Johnson (or bros for that matter) in the same sentence as is so common now

cfbassist, comparing DMB to great jazz artists is pretty absurd. Just about any jazz artist is so far beyond DMB musically that the comparison just doesn't make any sense. Sure, they both improv, and I'm all for that, but DMB aren't very good at it, and it gets boring after like 2 songs.

sounds like someone doesn't understand improv. the only reason you people like old jazz is because your elitist and you can't listen for yourself and decide what is good. you have to be told.

That makes sense.

By the way, I hate this band too. Just so everyone's aware... Carry on.
