New Streetlight Manifesto Song

2010-03-12 by Skimaskcheck | 17 Comments
Following increased tensions between themselves and their record label, Victory Records, Streetlight Manifesto are giving away their song "Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard".

The song was originally performed by Paul Simon, and is taken from their upcoming album 99 Songs Of Revolution. According to the group, Victory Records picked "Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard" to be the first single from their upcoming covers album without even informing the band:

'Apparently, Victory chose this as our first single for us, which we found out by seeing it [on] iTunes. Awesome! Thanks guys!'

I agree, it's good, but it's not Streetlight standard!
They have thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis much potential, and they only used thiiiiiis much.

it's articles like this that make me respect this band so damn much.
it just shows how little they care about the money they make, and that it's just about getting their music out there to the fans.

though what people got to remember is that these are covers....they dont exactly live up to the streetlight manifesto standard, because they arent actually streetlight manifesto songs. if you people dont think it's good enough, i would take it up with the original songwriters and stop complaining that the band can potentially write better songs.

i actually like this a lot. yeah new material would have been nice but i like the idea of covers, especially if they're given such a dramatic adaption.

Loving the album.
Obviously original material would be nice, but I don't mind getting stuff like this in the interim. Some seriously good tracks.
