Thrice Guitarist Leaves Tour

2009-11-18 by Prophet178 | 41 Comments
Guitarist Teppei Teranishi has dropped off Thrice's US tour temporarily due to a family
emergency. Thrice have enlisted friends to learn a couple songs each to fill in for Teppei.
The band has stated:

"I’ll get the bad news out of the way first.
Teppei had to leave the tour last night due to a family emergency, and will not be playing
with us for the next few shows (and possibly the rest of the tour.) We fully understand and
support his decision to do so, and hope that you’ll be understanding as well. He started
this tour knowing that this would be a possibility, and toughed it out for as long as he
possibly could. Please send as many positive thoughts as you can muster in his, and his
family’s direction.

The good news is that we have a few friends out here on tour who have stepped up, learned a
few songs a piece, and will be joining us on stage to enable us to get through a full set,
and help us get through this difficult time. The tour will continue as planned. It’ll just
be a little different.
Thanks for your understanding and support during this time. We appreciate it.

-Riley, Ed, & Dustin"

Sounds like someone in the family was fighting some illness for awhile
It'd take a lot of bravery to go away on tour knowing that the person might not hold out

I'm glad they didn't end up canceling the rest of the tour. Especially 3 days before they're supposed to play here. My regards go out to Teppei, and that this problem has a safe resolution.

yea it's too bad they are supporting Brand New.

I don't know a single person that listens to Brand New, and when this tour stopped in Baltimore, lots of people left the show after Thrice.

This is too bad for Teppei, hopefully everything works out for him. I also hope this doesn't affect their set list too much, because I'm seeing them tomorrow night.

They're not supporting Brand New anymore, they're on a headliner with The Dear Hunter and Polar Bear Club. I just saw them Monday night and they absolutely killed it (also, setlist was 17 songs long) The best of luck to Teppei and his family.

JUST saw them in Grand Rapids on the 16th. Intense, and The Dear Hunter was amazing live as well. I am both very glad I saw this concert before he had to leave and so amazed at how ridiculously impervious to misfortune they are.

Good on ya' Thrice. I hope Teppei get's through this in one piece.

Not to turn this into a debate. But I would've KILLED to see them support Brand New. Both of them are incredible.
