Radiohead Album In 2010

2009-10-07 by Observer EMERITUS | 52 Comments
Despite earlier reports that cited Thom Yorke as stating that the band might be finished with creating albums, Radiohead will indeed record another record in 2010 according to the band's guitarist, Ed O'Brian.

"O’Brien assures the NME that Yorke was “misquoted,” promising that the studio sessions Radiohead has booked for this winter will “definitely” lead to a full-length physical album in 2010. Hallelujah! In fact, he goes on at some length about how much he and the other band members love the tangible artwork that comes with vinyl and CDs. Given the gorgeous packaging that has accompanied each of Radiohead’s releases for the past decade and a half, I can’t say that’s a shock.

Is it too early to start speculating about what Radiohead’s LP8 might sound like? O’Brien tells the NME that this summer’s free single “These Are My Twisted Words” isn’t necessarily an indicator, which is too bad since I really love that song. Clearly Radiohead’s creative juices are flowing right now, though — just look at all the fantastic new material Yorke played at his recent solo shows. I trust them to come up with something mind-blowing once they get back into the studio."

Do you think you have been working towards a signature sound?

Thom: I fucking hope not.

I speculate that it will sound pretty similar to their last four albums and be deserving of a rating somewhere from a 3 to a 4, yet will nonetheless end up with a 4.1 on this site and get upwards of twenty 5/5s the day it leaks.

Which is what seemed to happen with Thrice and Converge.

That's the funny thing about aggregate ratings - it'll be "deserving" of whatever score it gets. It's too bad your score doesn't count for more than everyone else's.

@musicaddiction101
Definitely get In Rainbows; its their best since Kid A, which is still indescribable to me. Plus, its probably their most accessible album since OK Computer.

Oh, and BigHans, Radiohead is most likely NOT going to do The Bends Part 2, cuz every album sounds unique. If they do, tho, I might cry.

I doubt Yorke was misquoted that badly. It's not exactly news that he sees differently to the rest of the band.

i guess a band who has changed everything they do each time they record is dull-as-piss... especially since everything they do is imitated. face it... most bands wish they had the talent, money, influence, power, and legacy radiohead has. i'd be the douche that thom yorke is too if i were in his place.
