Muse vs. Glenn Beck

2009-10-06 by K. Prince | 54 Comments
In a recent broadcast, Glenn Beck unabashedly praised Muse's latest record, The Resistence, much to the alleged discomfort of the band. Beck called the album "fantastic", alluded to the band being "libertarian" and played a clip of the song 'United States of Eurasia' on his 'The Glenn Beck Program' radio show.

However, while on the air, Beck reportedly received an email from a Muse representative requesting that he retract his endorsement for the band. "I just got an email from representation of Muse," Beck lamented on the air. "They would like me to retract my endorsement. My apologies to Muse for saying that I like them. I didn't mean to destroy all their credibility and all their coolness." He continued: "Let me just set the record straight. Muse – I hate them. It's an awful album and you should never go out and buy it." Apparently, not all press is good press.

Update: According to Telegraph, Beck was just fooling around. Christopher Balfe (president of Beck's company Mercury Radio Arts) says that "while it is entirely possible that Muse does not like having Glenn as a fan, he was making a joke and their representatives never reached out to him.” How perfectly neighborly.

Not sure if the band asking him to "retract his endorsements" was necessary in the slightest...

Not sure if it was actually the band asking him to do so. It's happened before where "representation" acts without the band's knowledge.

Beck is an idiot though, I don't care who you are. I'd be really embarrassed if he even took the notion that he had any clue of what I was all about if I didn't know him.

"Glenn Beck, the Fox News commentator, was joking when he claimed that the British rock band Muse had asked him to withdraw an endorsement for their music, it has emerged."

This is exactly the sort of thing Beck would do, too.

If i just spent 4 minutes praising a band's cd only to have them tell me that i'm too much of a douchebag to like them I'd be sarcastic too.

edit: i didn't see the post claiming it was fake. gah

Yeah...pretty sure this has become un-newsworthy. Now it's just another joke...unless it gets blown up out of proportion.

Ah, well, I updated the article and now it can be deleted if deemed useless, haha. Of course, if Muse responds to Beck's fooling around, then things become legitimate.

From what I understand, he's changed a lot since his time at HNN/HLN. He used to be a semi-rational libertarian, but now he's morphed into some kind of populist reactionary with a very tenuous grasp on reality, who exploits racial fears for a living. *sigh* The things people will do for money.

This makes Muse look ridiculous. It also shows that Muse apparently listen to the Glenn Beck Radio Show.

I guess we can revel in the irony at the very least.

this is a little ridiculous. Rise Against leaves West Palm to avoid militarism, that gives them credibility and character, Muse complains because someone uncool approves of their music? that sure defines their character: desperate for indie cred (which their music is sure not gaining them).

I didnt realize Muse' fan base was so selective. I hope their record sales reflect that elite and minuscule few.

I actually like Beck and just listened to the segment where he discusses Muse. What actually happened was he was joking off-air about how no "cool" rock band would want his endorsement. When the show resumed, he went on to "retract" his endorsement. During the process of this "retraction" you can hear the entire studio laughing when he says he just received an email from the record label and they were demanding a retraction. You would have to be an IDIOT to think he was being serious. Furthermore, do you think that anyone representing Muse listens to Glen Beck? And even if they did (big "if"), then they'd somehow find Glen Beck's personal email address and contact him within 5 minutes of him saying he liked the band? Ridiculous. Whoever posted this article is a moron.

Glenn Beck ain't THAT bad guys...we all know there isn't one person in the media with any credibility anyway. The media nowadays is just different networks or individuals spouting off their own opinions with no regard whatsoever to objectivity. Even so though, i'd rather listen to a Glenn Beck rant than Muse's new album.

Why are people so calm and composed especially considering Glenn Beck viciously raped and murdered a girl in 1990? You'd think if anyone else raped and murdered a girl in 1990 they'd at least get some jail time for raping and murdering a girl in 1990. I don't PERSONALLY think Glenn Beck raped and murdered a young girl in 1990, but he refused to refute this. What is he trying to hide?!?

I for one will not stop until I see a I Did Not Rape And Murder A Young Girl In 1990 certificate.
