Softscars is easily one of the best #1s here (along with Holy Vacants and Blackstar), and looking more closely, ig 2023 doesn't have any outright embarrassing albums compared to other years - closest thing it has to a full flop is Sufjan (yep, including A7X), so maybe I was a little harsh in my last comment. will take that back - of all the lists here, it and ig 2024 are the only two i'd willingly revisit in their entirety
still, not convinced of the firing power there - Ooh Rap I Ya, Rat Saw God, new Slowdive, new Hail the Sun all feel like trains that have been and gone at this point, as is Scaring the Hoes (probs the second best record on that list, though gotta love how built for the moment it was) |
