kildare The critical area for me is starting at 3:45 and the transition to the next variation at 4:20. A funny thing happens in the Perlman rendition: His tempo is about the SAME for the earlier variation, but way faster on the following variation. Bach hardly ever left tempo markings, so possibly performers perform EACH VARIATION at an arbitrary tempo? If that makes sense? Anyway, hope this is worth it for you. Thanks for checking in!
